"Satya looks so...so beautiful.", Valmiki breathed.

"She is already taken.", Xavier replied.

"Fuck."

Xavier chuckled at his friend's desperation, "She was single for an eternity.", he added, "You could have expressed your desire when you had a chance."

"Easier said than done.", Valmiki muttered.

Xavier knew that his friend was interested in Satya, but he never meddled in between. A man should be able to express himself to his woman, that's the least expected from the said man. Women in general preferred romanticism over arrogance or shyness.

And yes, it would have been harder for his friend considering his introverted nature. But what was done couldn't be undone.

"I hope you weren't silently pining for her love.", he held Valmiki's shoulder, "Were you?"

Valmiki shot a furious glare at him.

"Hey, Miki!", Satya rushed towards them and hugged Valmiki, "I never thought you would agree to attend our poor people's party.", she teased him, her hands lingering on his shoulder.

He noticed Valmiki inhaling sharply before replying, "It's rather lavish to be called a poor people's party.", his voice was hoarse.

"Oh Miki, come on, for you this must be very plain."

Xavier bit back a grin when he noticed Valmiki's growing uneasiness with Satya's continuous assault on his personal space. She had no clue how her unconscious touches were causing havoc on his friend's body.

Valmiki shot him with a 'please help me' look and he nodded, "Satya, what about games?", he stood straight and took her hand in his, "Let's see who all are winning."

"Yes!"

This year their employees were creative with all the games, and they wanted their bosses to be involved as much as possible, other than their usual duet entrance. He had wanted to throw the idea as it was a crass shit, but Satya had favored employees, "Don't be such a jerk, Xav, it is just for one night."

And he had agreed.

Because of the vast number of employees, they had always planned to play games department-wise. This year they had planned a final game, where the winners from each department would get to compete with them, their bosses, and all the board members included.

"I don't want to play anything.", he shook his head, "We are old."

"No, Xav.", she pinched his arm, "We aren't old. Wait, you might be but I am just thirty."

Quoting Jaime Lannister, "The things I do for love.", he chuckled as she made a face.

They walked around the hall, watching happy faces as they greeted them. His eyes caught the attention of a bright yellow color radiating from one group. The little lady wearing a yellow saree was facing away from him. She had long wavy hair, almost reaching below her hip, the silk hugging her perfect curves. As if burned by his gaze, her hands fixed her hair into a tight bun and she turned around.

Xavier stumbled.

The feisty sweetheart.

His lips curved into a smile as he recognized her. She was a startling difference from her regular self, looking like a stranger with such radiant color adoring her body. Why did she hide herself under loose baggy clothes with the most boring color palette daily?

Curious thoughts of his were interrupted by an announcement, "Hello everyone!", some lady from the QA department had taken the responsibility to be the host for the event. And she, for sure, did a good job of it.

Everyone turned around to look at her.

"So, we have all the department winners for the paper dance game.", the lady continued, "We would like to write their names in chits and select pairs by the random pairing method for the finale."

Cheers roared.

Why do people have so much enthusiasm for things like these?

He pondered.

"You can all continue, we will have our pairs ready and dance starts at twenty-three past thirty.", she concluded.

"What is this paper dance thing?", Xavier asked Satya, intrigued about the terminology. Were they supposed to dance with papers?

"They have a paper flat on the floor, the pair have to step above it and dance to the tune.", she leaned in, "Whoever steps out of paper, loses the round. The next round paper is folded into half and the winners of the previous round step in, the same process repeats until the paper is too small to step in and there's only one pair who wins."

"That sounds a bit raunchy to be included as a game.", he remarked, "I don't think members of the board would like it."

"Did you see anyone objecting?", she raised a brow, "Other than you, of course."

He groaned, "Remind me why I agreed to any of these?"

"Are you scared of losing?"

Xavier scoffed, "Are you challenging me?"

"Yes.", she slyly smiled while dragging her fingers over his arm, "With your huge hulk figure...", she motioned her hand accusing his length of body, and goaded him, "I am sure you will fail the challenge."

"Let's see.", he bowed sarcastically.

I have to win this.

A/N

There were two songs "Pookkalae" and "Manja Kaatu Maina" that I had thought of for this chapter but went with the former as I don't know, it felt genuine.
