He looked at her with a newfound interest, almost admiration. Krithika turned to look at him, "What?", her lips had a coy smile pictured on them.

"You know a lot about colors.", he arched his brow, "You like... Painting?"

She fiddled her fingers with the ends of her dupatta, a sign of nervousness that he had come to observe. He picked her right hand in his left and pulled her closer.

She winced, "My heels.", she spit out accidentally.

He narrowed his eyes over her feet, "Why do you ladies torture yourself with such things?", he knelt and motioned her to remove that abhorrent footwear.

"I can't walk barefoot, there could be anything on these roads.", he heard her say.

He slanted his head to look at her, "You can wear my shoes, sweetheart. You are hurting yourself.", he pleaded.

"It's just two streets, I can walk.", she replied fighting back his request.

"You don't have to be stubborn for silly stuff, Krithika.", his voice had a stern tone.

One moment she acted so mature and the very next moment she started behaving like a kid. It confused him.

"How will you wal--"

He cut her mid-sentence, "Darling, just remove them, please.", and touched her ankle.

She immediately stepped back, "Okay. Okay...", she breathed, "You don't need to--I'll remove.", she assured him and pulled them out.

He saw her take a long breath before looking at him.

"Do you like wearing them?", he asked, puzzled at her discomfort.

"I wear them only to feel tall.", she scrunched her nose as if she felt lame about her reply and Xavier chuckled.

He took her heels from the ground in his right hand and stood straight, "You, Ms. Krithika, are perfect, you don't need to look tall, thin, fair, or whatever nonsense people spew. They can go and fuck themselves."

She bowed her head and he observed her lips muttering something inaudible. He couldn't believe that such a confident woman carried so many insecurities about her beauty.

He removed his shoes and asked her to wear them. They were too big for her tiny feet and he laughed seeing her struggle. She glared at him, "This doesn't feel like a good replacement."

Shrugging he replied, "I don't have anything else with me.", he leaned closer, his lips brushed her earlobe, "Unless you allow me to carry you.", he touched her waist.

He heard her take a sharp breath as her body leaned in involuntarily. But in a moment, she pushed him away and quickly waddled off. He started walking behind her, a big smile covering his face, "So, you like painting?"

"I loved watercolors when I was in high school, they were a great medium to escape from the constant bickering and insults of my father.", she admitted.

"Hmm...", he nodded, "What else do you like?"

She held her dress while waddling like a duck, "I like beaches, well I love them, I like to feel cold silky sand under my feet. They are calming."

"Hmm..."

They kept their conversation while walking slowly, it didn't take long for them to reach her P. G. It was nearly midnight, and not a single soul dared to disturb them, except for the few strays who howled in the distance.

She turned around and removed her feet from his shoes. Titling her head up to face him she smiled, "I enjoyed the dinner with you, Xavier.", she stared into his eyes, "Thanks."

He took her hand and holding her gaze he placed a kiss on her knuckles. He could feel her pulse increase from such a simple touch. She was very responsive and it was such a turn-on for him.

Fuck...

"I am trying my best, darling, to not pull you closer and kiss you the way I want, the way you want.", he looked at her lips, "My sweetheart, I know what you want when you are pouting like that, please go inside before I change my mind."

She snatched her heels from him and walked away in a haughty gait. He stared at her retreating form. She looked at him over her shoulder for one final time before she opened the doors of her P. G. and disappeared into darkness.

What have I gotten myself into!?

"Vizhigalin Aruginil" is still one of the most addictive songs ever composed according to me. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, everything so beautiful.

Also, this song just fits Xavier's emotions in this chapter. Hehe ;)
