"Mole, eat...", Bincy Chitta was trying to force-feed Krithika, and Xavier just kept smiling as he observed his Kanmani's lips curling into an annoying pout.

Hmm... Those lips... Fucking hell!

He licked his lips and turned to look at his younger cousin, "So, what are you doing? I mean, what are you studying?"

"Plus one, commerce group.", Mathew muttered as he grabbed a handful of Puttu from his plate.

The kid seemed to be utterly pissed. Perhaps, he hated the fact that all the attention of his mother was directed to this new-found cousin of his, and Xavier couldn't be surprised by his attitude. If he had been in his place, he would have left the house until the flashy rich guy left the premises.

"Luci, did you settle in the Gulf, you look quite wealthy.", Chitta asked as she scanned his attire, "I saw a few bulky men outside with you, what sort of work do you do?", she chuckled.

Raising his inquisitive brow he asked, "Do I look like an international don to you, Chitta?"

He noticed Krithika was still glaring at him. Well, given the time she should have at least chortled at his joke, rather she looked like she was waiting to punch him.

Did I do something?

"Considering that you are Siji's son, I would say that you wouldn't dare to swat a mosquito. Perhaps, kill it by singing long poems though.", Chitta sighed, "Gulf people have all the money. Philip is also trying to go there to earn better."

Mathew snorted, "Yeah, earn better."

"Mone, don't insult your brother like that.", she chided, "You have all the brains, but my eldest is working hard. The poor chap is trying his best."

"First stop your alcoholic son from taking unnecessary loans from random people, then we can discuss who's hardworking or not!", Mathew abruptly stood, "Anyone can be brainy, but one day you'll see which son of yours is going to be with you, who's going to take care of you.", he took his plate and rushed inside the kitchen, "Ente mone this ente mone that, bloody hell!"

"Mathew!", she screamed and turned towards Xavier, "Don't mind him, he's a nice kid but short-tempered.", smiling again she urged, "So, you came from the Gulf? Where do you live there?"

Xavier shook his head, "No, I am settled in Chennai.", he tried to pick up Puttu in his hand but it kept falling back to the plate. He realized, he slowly had become this 'posh Ayya' that Krithika tagged him to be, and he needed a fucking spoon and fork to eat anything at all.

"Chennai?"

Defeated from his attempts he shook his fingers to clean them, "I'm in business these days, have you heard about the Xhasis ever?"

He heard hurried steps inside the kitchen and found his cousin peeking out from the edges of the kitchen door, "The Xhasis, you mean the one associated with Ms. Satya Devi?"

"Yeah."

The kid's eyes widened like saucers, "You are working under the great Ms. Satya Devi?"

Well, this was the exact time when Krithika chose to giggle and asked him, "Xav, do you work under her?", she shut her mouth with her hand as Xavier scowled at her. Her eyes still sparkled with suppressed mirth and it annoyed him like shit.

Mathew came near him, "Wait, are you by any chance... Mr. Xavier Lucifer Joseph?", and it dawned on him, "Ohmygawd!", he screamed and fell next to his mother, "Ohmygawd!?", he yelled again in disbelief.

Krithika couldn't hold it any longer and burst out laughing, "This is so much fun, some family reunions are worth it.", she whispered wiping her tears, but it was loud enough for Xavier to hear and he angrily grunted to stop her from further embarrassment.

Mathew shouted, "Amma, I have a cousin who's a bloody genius, and you never told me about him?"

Bloody genius, well, some nice terminology there.

"Luci mone, what is he blabbering?", his aunt scowled, "For whom do you work?"

Mathew's head snapped towards his mother and he waved his arm towards Xavier, "Amma, this mone of yours doesn't work for anyone, he fucking runs the Xhasis!", he held his head in his hand and shook it, "Ohmygawd...ohmygawd...I am sitting next to Mr. Joseph, a pioneer, one who's a partner of the Xhasis with my idol Ms. Satya Devi...", he kept mumbling, "And... and he is my cousin!?"

Xavier never in his life had thought that he would have a sixteen-year-old teen as his cousin, the one who would be in absolute shock to meet him, the one who would be fanboying hard for his business partner-slash-best friend while sitting straight across him. But here they were, Mathew- his kid cousin- hyperventilating with the knowledge that Xavier was somehow related to him and was linked to the great Satya Devi.

What is with everyone celebrating Satya?

It did make him a bit jealous, but he knew better. He knew that he wouldn't be able to handle the limelight as skillfully as Satya did. The last time he had gone to an interview- one with no camera and just a plain mic- he had snapped at the host and left the place apologizing for his rude behavior caused by an imaginary migraine. He wasn't bad per se in the department of people skills, but the whole question-answer charade of the media made him anxious.

Yet, somewhere in his mind, it felt charming to him, to watch kids like Mathew admiring him from afar, being an inspiration to them. He did feel proud of himself.

You rose from the ashes, my dear phoenix.

Subhadra's voice rang in his mind and he shut his eyes, trying hard to omit everything.

Yes, he did rise from his past. Burning the poems of his addictive love for her to ashes and rising with his loving Kanmani, writing a new chapter of his beautifully poetic life.

"Neela Nilave" is my absolute favorite in recent times, so much so that I have mugged up the whole song XD

Also, it just feels painful to write Xavier's POV sometimes. I try hard to not connect much with my characters but I am an emotional fool when it comes to stories (Note- Stories, not real life) and cry a bit when I write about any trauma or heartbreak or stuff like that :')

Those who write here, do you guys also feel the same?
