chae laid awake in her bed, unable to sleep. the girl was consumed by her thoughts on the upcoming future, as harry's hearing was only a few hours away she feared he would not be allowed to attend hogwarts again.
she knew that the ministry just couldn't expel him, but cornelius fudge certainly was prejudice towards the boy. the minister was choosing to take the easy route and refuse to believe that the dark lord hadn't returned, chae certainly thought he was a fool and it made her wish so much that she would not have to work at the ministry.
chae certainly wanted to work at the twins' joke shop, but she knew that her mother had other plans for her. she'd be risking a lot if she told her mother she did not want to follow in her path and become an auror.
chaerin came from a line of aurors, alice's real parents had been aurors and so had their parents. it was only natural that chae became one too, however she was beginning to feel as if she didn't want to follow in her mother's footsteps.
she turned over in her bed, seeing that hermione and ginny were already fast asleep. the girl sighed heavily, just as she was about to close her eyes and try to sleep, a crack sounded in the room and she felt a pain in her arm which had been consumed by body weight.
"ouch! you just apparated on my arm!" she whisper yelled, her eyes trying to adjust to the darkness.
chae could just about make our the features of fred's face as he began to laugh.
"sorry, it's harder to do in the dark" said fred as he lifted chae's blanket, climbing into bed beside her.
chae's eyes went as wide as saucers, what on earth did he think he was doing?
"fred, you can't just apparate and climb into bed with me"
"of course i can"
"no you really can't, if either one of the girls wake up or your mother finds out she'll have both of our heads off"
"don't worry love, i'll be gone by the morning"
chae rolled her eyes, even if if the boy couldn't see it. he laid silently next to the petite girl, wrapping his arms around her waist. it was a regular occurrence that the two would cuddle with each other, very rarely at their own homes though, usually in their school dormitories.
"freddie?" chae whispered.
"yes chae?" said fred.
"do you think there will be another war?"
fred stayed silent for a moment, pondering on whether or not he should tell her his honest thoughts.
"chaerin... i honestly think there's a chance of it happening, but if it does, don't worry yourself"
"how can you not expect me to worry? fred don't you realise how much all of you mean to me? godric i'd probably go loopy if i were to lose you" whispered chae as she stared into fred's eyes.
fred smiled gently at her, his hand tucking a stray hair behind her ear.
"you're already loopy, nothing will happen to me chae, i swear i'll look after you until the end" said fred earnestly.
chae nodded her head, smiling at him gratefully, deciding it was best that the two of them slept.
the next few days at 12 grimmauld place was full of celebrations, chae was thrilled to hear that harry had been cleared of all charges. she currently sat with fred and george as they received their hogwarts letters, telling them the books they needed for the new year and a reminder that term started as usual on september 1st.
chae was reading her letter when fred had turned to ron, who was looking very shocked.
"what's up with you ron?" he asked.
ron's mouth fell open as he continued to stare at his letter, causing fred to grow impatient so the tall boy walked over to him, gazing over his shoulder at his brothers letter, his mouth fell open too.
"prefect?" he said, staring incredulously at the letter.
"prefect?" chae repeated, her eyebrow raised.
"no way" said george as he turned ron's letter upside down, a red and gold badge falling from it into the palm of his hand.
"no one in their right mind would make ron a prefect" said fred, trying to check ron's letter for a watermark. chae shook her head as she stood up from her seat, lightly smacking fred on the back of his head.
"don't be so mean!" she warned.
"we thought dumbledore would make you a prefect" george said, turning to harry.
"i suppose all the mad stuff must've counted against him, i was a prefect until fred and george got my badge taken away" said chaerin.
"no that was your own fault, you were the one that started a fire in filch's office" george responded.
''yeah" said fred slowly, turning back to harry "yeah, you've caused too much trouble, mate
well, at least one of you's got their priorities right"
chae watched in total disbelief as she watched fred clap harry on the back, she walked over to ron and pulled him into a hug.
"well done ron! that's brilliant!"
ron slightly nodded his head at the girl, thanking her, unable to form words because he was still in shock.
"prefect... ickle ronnie the prefect"
''oh, mum's going to be revolting" groaned george, thrusting the prefect badge back at ron as though it might contaminate him, the action making chaerin laugh.
moments later molly and hermione had came bustling in, hermione had congratulated ron after getting a bit confused with who was prefect. chae watched with a huge smile on her face as molly began to kiss ron all over his face after learning the good news.
"i don't believe it! i don't believe it! oh, ron, how wonderful! a prefect! that's everyone in the family!"
chae's smile faltered slightly, a small pout now on her face, that most certainly wasn't everyone in the family. as far as she knew, fred and george hadn't been prefects. chae knew that if the twins had been made prefects they probably would have crushed the badges into powder within seconds.
''what are fred and i, next door neighbours?"said george indignantly, the short girl moved to stand in between fred and george, taking both of their hands into hers comfortingly.
she loved molly but she was quite upset to see the way the twins had been pushed out. chae hated that they had always been viewed as different because they were a little naughty, she knew molly loved them more than her life and she would never ever question molly's parenting or love but she found it hardly fair how the twins were always treated a bit differently.
because the twins were truly brilliant, they were incredibly smart whether or not they used it for the right reasons, they were extremely funny and the most kind and caring people chaerin had ever met. fred and george weasley truly were her favourite boys in the whole entire universe.
after molly had finished fussing over ron and told him he was going to be rewarded, she left the room, leaving the teens alone and chae smirked slightly as fred and george looked a each other.
"you don't mind if we kiss you too ron?" asked fred, pretending to be anxious.
"we could curtesy if you like?" said george.
"or we could do both?" added chae, laughing slightly.
"oh shut up" said ron, scowling at the three of them.
"or what?" said fred as an evil grin spread across his face "going to put is in detention?"
"i'd love to see him try" said george.
"uh oh, looks like we'll be avoiding prefect ron" chae piped in, hermione was now glaring at her too.
"he could if you don't watch out!" she said angrily.
the girl's anger caused the trio to laugh, chae loved hermione but she sure did love to wind people up. she found it rather amusing.
"drop it hermione" ron muttered.
"we'regoing to have to watch our step" said fred, pretending to tremble ''with these two on our case..."
''yeah, it looks like our law-breaking days are finally over" said george, shaking his head.
with two loud cracks the twins had disapparated, and chae could hear them laughing upstairs. she quickly said goodbye to the others and disapparated as well, hoping to find ginny.
