two months had passed since easter and chae was healing, she had accepted the fact that her parents had divorced and was ready to move on.
chaerin erupted with laughter as her and the twins ran from snape's potions class, the three of them had just set off dungbombs in there and snape had gone mental.
the trio ran down the castle passageways as fast as they could, they knew snape wouldn't be able to catch them. they came to a stop when they had reached the entrance of the castle.
chae rested her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath.
"did you see the look on the old git's face?" fred asked.
"looked as if he were going to kill us" george responded.
"i wouldn't put it past him, i couldn't begin to tell you how many times he's hit me in the back of the head" chae added.
the three of them began to stroll outside when they noticed the quidditch pitch had hedges growing from it, she saw hagrid tending to the hedges and chae wasted no time in going to greet the man.
"hagrid!!" she called excitedly as she ran over to him.
"chaerin! what're ya doin' out here?!" he asked, the man towering over the girl.
"just strolling by" she lied, there was no way she'd tell hagrid that the three of them were hiding from snape.
"hmm, that's hard to believe" said hagrid.
"we're certainly not doing anything bad" said fred.
"or particularly dangerous" george added.
hagrid eyed the three of them suspiciously before he went back to trimming the hedges.
"hagrid what are these for?" chae questioned.
"the third task" he grunted.
"ohhh! is it a maze then?"
hagrid nodded his head, chae opened her mouth to speak again but quickly closed her mouth when she saw professor snape storm by.
"gotta go hagrid! bye!" she rushed out as she ran off with the twins.
"let's go to my dormitory, it'd look terrible on him if he was trying to enter the girls dorms" chae said between breaths.
"chaerin you're a genius!" george said.
"oh i know"
the three of them rushed into the ravenclaw common room, the other students not bothering to notice them as they continued to make their way to chae's dorm room.
"how do you think harry will do with the maze?" fred asked.
"i think he'll be okay" said chae confidently.
"poor kid, everything always happens to him" said george.
"at this point it seems someone's got a death wish on him!" fred added.
later that evening, chae and harry were sat by the lake. harry had told chae that he needed to talk to her, after all he wanted to keep her in the loop.
"so you're telling me, you went to dumbledore's office because your scar was hurting and you ended up seeing his memories?" chae said slowly, causing harry to nod his head.
"yes, barty crouch's own son was a death eater, mad eye was there too and igor karkaroff, i don't know if i mentioned it but snape was a former death eater" harry explained.
"harry, snape may hate children but he wouldn't be teaching here if dumbledore didn't trust him, as for karkaroff, he'll be leaving soon" chae said.
harry let out a sigh as he rested his arms on his knees, looking at chae with frustration.
"chae what if he's the one that put my name in the goblet?" he asked.
"who?" she responded.
"karkaroff or snape"
"snape wouldn't dare do such a thing, and i don't think karkaroff would even try, you saw how angry he was when he found out hogwarts had two champions"
harry nodded his head, chaerin was right. karkaroff would be a fool to enter harry's name if he wanted durmstrang to win.
over the months chae's suspicions had been raised on mad eye, chae had known the man previously because of her mother and he didn't act the way he acted at hogwarts. chae knew he was supposedly mad but if he was that mad dumbledore wouldn't have let him teach.
"harry, you're going to think i'm crazy, but i don't think mad eye is mad eye" chae whispered, scared harry would take it the wrong way. harry's head snapped to look at her, his features laced with confusion.
"what do you mean?" harry questioned.
"i knew him prior to him teaching here, he was friends with my mother, he's acting differently" chaerin explained, looking harry in the eye, trying to get him to understand her point.
"so you think mad eye put my name in the goblet?"
"no harry, that's not what i'm saying. what i'm saying is, i don't think alastor moody is actually alastor moody"
for months chaerin had been noticing his odd behaviour and weird habits. she hadn't had any time to ask her mother about her suspicions so she had no evidence of the subject, but there was something about mad eye moody that made chaerin's stomach pool with a terrible feeling of dread.
"chaerin that's ridiculous, what are you trying to say? he's an imposter?" harry snapped, causing chae to flinch.
"harry all i'm saying is that i don't trust him, whether he's an imposter or not, there's something dodgy about him"
"well i don't know if you've noticed, but everybody thinks he's as mad as a hatter"
"harry, people think i'm as mad as a hatter! but i don't act the way he does, neither do fred and george"
"that's because you haven't experienced the things he has" harry continued to argue, chaerin sighed in frustration.
"my mother has had nearly the same experience he has, i can tell you for a fact that my mother is not mad, just forget i even said anything"
harry nodded his head at the girl and chae decided she wasn't going to push he topic further, if she was going to find some sort of evidence on mad eye then she'd have to be quick about it because the school year was coming to an end.
