Chapter seven - Gym leader one - Jake, the ice type.
Recap-
Last chapter the only main event was that Chris and John met (And defeated) a team rocket goon, the first of their many future adversaries.
After checking out of their hotel, Chris and John walked the short distance left to the nearby city, a normal sized city with large buildings.
"Wow! This place is cool. I never imagined that such a large place could be so near to our little town." said Chris, looking around in amazement at the huge apartment buildings.
Chris pointed towards a building. "Hey! There's a bike shop! Lets check it out!"
John sighed and followed Chris towards the small multicolored bike shop, weaving through the many different bikes parked outside of the shop. One caught his eye, but the 1,000,000$ price tag was enough to make him look away. He hurried to catch up with Chris, who had already entered the shop.
Chris walked up to a kind-looking man wearing a gray I Luv 2 Bike shirt. He was sitting behind a small metallic desk with a bike symbol randomly placed all over it. John followed him, looking around at the large variety of big and small multicoloured bikes.
"What can I do for you, son?" asked the man behind the desk politely.
"Well," Chris replied, "I was wondering if you ever have sales on your bikes, I don't think I can afford one million P."
"Hmmm... I'll tell you what. If you be strong trainers," he said, obviously having noticed the pokeballs on both boy's belt, "I'll give both you and your friend a free bike if you two can defeat this city's gym leader." This got John's attention. He looked up, raising and eyebrow at the man.
"You see, the gym leader is my son, Jake, and he's been getting a swelled head lately over how great he is; no one has been able to beat him for quite a while. I'm becoming quite tired of it, so it would be nice to see him a little humble for a while."
"Hmmm-" pondered John.
"Of course we'll do it! Come on John, let's get going!!" Chris said, hurrying out the door, not checking to see if his friend was following him.
"Now he's an enthusiastic one, isn't he," commented the man, chuckling.
"Indeed," John replied, walking out the door swiftly.
'At this rate, you will never get a chance to call Mr. Professor,' riolu commented.
John chuckled, walking towards the direction of the gym. [I wonder how long it will be before he realizes I'm not right beside him] "Wait a second-where is Chris!?" John exclaimed, glancing right and left.
"Hey! What's your problem!" an angry shout came from around the corner.
"Chris was heading that way," John muttered darkly, shaking his head and rounding the corner.
"Chris!" he exclaimed looking at the scene before him. It seemed Chris had bumped into a young man wearing an icy white dressware shirt, and now the man had sent out his pokemon - a small ice type, from the looks of it, which was now staring at Chris evilly, a cruel intent in it's small slitted dark eyes.
"Hey! He only bumped into you!" John exclaimed.
"So you're his friend? I'll get you both!" came the uncaring reply.
John glanced down at riolu. "You ready?"
Riolu nodded. "let's go!"
Chris sent out starly. They were about to give commands when the teen said, "so you are pokemon trainers. Return, snorunt."
"What???" Chris exclaimed.
"I'm this city's gym leader, Jack. If I'm going to beat you, I might as well do it officially. See you at my gym." He chuckled snidely, and walked off.
"Grrrrr... That jerk. His dad sure was right. He does have a swelled head," Chris growled, looking at the direction Jack had walked off in.
"Let's go," said John, "and beat him before he forgets who we are. He doesn't have enough room in that head of his for anything but himself"
Chris nodded, and the two trainers and their pokemon headed off in the direction of the gym, stopping only at the super-sized pokemon centre to heal their pokemon and (attempt) to call the professor. Once again, the line was busy. John sighed. If things kept going this way, Team Rocket would be gone by the time they got through to the professor.
"Well, we might as well call the professor after we beat this Jack person," Chris remarked. So they left the pokemon centre and headed to the gym. When they got there, they gasped. The entire gym was ice white.
"You ready?" John asked riolu. It nodded.
"Let's go!" Chris said, and they opened the huge white and stepped in.
"Welcome..." came the all to familier voice
------- Gym Battle One- Jack, the ice type -------
"Welcome to the ice gym," Jack said, well, icily.
"I'd ask you to introduce yourself, but sadly I already know you," John said.
"Hmph. Let's battle"
"Riolu, let's go!" "starly, time to battle!" "snover, snorunt, time for another win!"
'This battle will be two on two. The battle will end when both of one team's pokemon have fainted,' the loudspeaker blared. 'BEGIN!!!'
Chris was the quick one this time. "Starly! Use aerial ace!" Zing! It was a right on hit on the snover, (The pokedex had given them the name information) and being super effective, the pokemon's health dropped quickly. John, too, was quick.
"Riolu! Blast out your quick attack!"
But, however, Jack was slick as ice. "Snover! Block it with an ice shield! Snorunt! Use your icy wind!" The two pokemon complied. Snover barely managed to block the attack, but while riolu was distracted, snorunt managed to slip in with an icy wind, blasting all of the three other pokemon (riolu, starly, AND snover.)
The snover glared at it's partner. The snorunt glared back.
"Looks like they've got anger management issues," John remarked.
"H-hey! Don't attack each other!" said Jack, as they started to fight.
"Let's finished them off," Chris said.
"Agreed," John replied.
"Force palm!" "Aerial ace!" They were direct hits. The two opposing pokemon fainted.
"Wh-what! NO! This can't happen! Not THREE TIMES IN A DAY!!!" shouted Jack, his eyes wide. "Well, I might as well face facts. You two have beaten me, so I, as per regulation, bequeath unto you two a pair of snow badges."
The pair accepted the badges. John pinned it on his black jacket, and Chris put it on his hat.
"We should go now, we have to see that man," Chris said. John knew he was talking about the man from the bike shop.
"Let's go." So they left the gym with a newfound sense of confidence.
"First, let's stop at the pokemon centre. Where is it anyway?"
'It is nearby. I can sense the auras of the pokemon,' said riolu.
"Got it," John replied. So far, they had not told Chris that riolu could talk to John. It had been non-stop adventure. Let's save that secret for another time, John thought. They ended up stopping at the bike shop first, anyway.
"Let's go in," said Chris,
"We might as well." They walked in, heading straight for the counter, which now bore red bikes instead of the earlier blue ones. They must be magnets, John realized.
"We beat him," Chris stated rather bluntly, but unable to keep some of his mostly restrained excitement out of his voice.
"Hmm. So I've heard*. Thank you. I will keep my word. Both of you can pick out a bike. But first," he said in a more serious tone of voice, "let me give you some advice about the gym leader in the next town. She is more powerful than Jack. She will easily beat your pokemon."
"H-hey!" interjected John.
"Listen. She uses flying types, which are super effective against your riolu*. Her pokemon are also a little more powerful than your starly*," he said, looking at Chris, "you will need more effective types than fighting and flying. Go into the forest right next to here and catch yourselves some good electric pokemon."
"Thanks. You've been a real help. Hey, can we have your phone number?" John asked.
"Sure. That is fine. It is 1836-0956-3946. Call me if you ever need help." (Author's note-don't call this number, it doesn't exist - at least I don't think so - if it's your number hahaha)
"We will. Thanks." the two boys each picked out a bike, packed it up, and left. They healed their pokemon at the famous pokemon centre and left the city to go and look for an electric pokemon.
In the next part - WILL they ever get through to Professor Jacob? WHY are Team Rocket attacks escalating? And - Gym battle two - the flying leader!
Well, reading this you might have seen a few asterixs, AKA *. This is referring to this comment- What? How in the world does he A. Know instantly that they won, B. Know what Chris's pokemon is, and C. Know what John's pokemon is? Anyway, those are mysteries for another day. :D So anyway, chapter 7 is edited. Tune in soon for an edited chapter eight!
