He stood at the edge of town with his hands trembling. He fought a deep tightness in his chest that gradually began to worsen.

It constricted his lungs, making him feel breathless and claustrophobic in the freezing weather.

Just like she said. Like she said. What Glynda said.

Gulping with a sharp inhale, Y/N took a series of deep breaths as flashes of a burning village came to mind.

The experience was vivid, it had his eyes hazy with a difficulty focusing on the task at hand.

"It's just a nightmare..." His wife whispered, holding him close. "You're here, home."

"I-I'm here..."

"There you go. Now breathe."

"Inhale." Y/N took a long gulp of air as his trembling hands remained still.

"Count to three." He raised his rifle and readied his knife.

Mentally counting to three, he then exhaled and started over.

As each second passed, a deep tremor racked the snow ridden ground, shaking the powdery white substance with increasing intensity.

At his back, Y/N felt the same as well. They began to rapidly converge on his position as he willed through his panic attack.

The seizure on his chest became inflated with adrenaline and a fiery passion to preserve his oath as a Hunter, and Huntsman.

Pivoting on his shoe, he now aimed his shoulders in both directions. He was about to be surrounded.

Find me... my successor.

A random thought had broken him from his concentration, like someone had whispered directly into his ear.

Overhead, a blanket of stars covered the sky. Their small light was quickly overwhelmed as the moon shined down on Y/N.

Lowering his weapons, Y/N blinked away his past to furrow his brows and focus on the present.

Stowing away his weapons, he reached behind and slipped Sovereign from its sheath with a satisfying grind of metal.

With the sword in hand, Y/N gave it a small flourish with the carved runes glowing a bright (Aura Color).

Use it.

With his breath growing rapid in nervousness and uncertainty, Y/N raised the sword high into the sky.

Focus. Listen to its hum. Let it speak to you.

Allowing his mind, body, and soul to be opened, Y/N let in the foreign hum that began to grow from Sovereign.

It was calming, yet from Y/N's first hand experience it was also terrifying.

Gathering in his hand, speck by speck, was the power Ludwig wielded to often slay droves of Beasts.

Broken from his spell of unfamiliarity, Y/N whipped around with both his hands on Sovereign's hilt to cleave a charging Beowolf straight in half.

With its ashes scattering at the heels of his feet, Y/N again did a full twist to dash to his side.

A rolling Boarbatusk came skidding past in a near blur. Its mass and weight caused it to come to a screeching halt.

Huffing with snow rattling off its back, the Grimm charged forward and dropped back into a deadly roll.

Sovereign wasn't as precise and piercing as Lex Talionis, if he struck now it was more than likely he'd leave his arm aching after it bounced off its hard shell.
