Queen

"No!" I uttered in a blood-curdling scream. I looked up as Syn had warned but Bezy jumped in front of me before Eve could stab me. I cried out as he staggered to the floor and I ran to his side.

The knife was still plunged into this chest and tears streamed down my face as I looked down at him. "Bezy!" I sobbed.

My heart broke into a million pieces as he smiled up at me and I closed my eyes. Tears continued to burn my cheeks and I opened them when his large hand moved to my face. "Queen no cry."

I didn't know if he knew about the concept of death but he seemed as carefree as he always was. His eyes still shone with the careless youth that it always did and the pain that must've been burning through him didn't stop his kid-like smile.

Syn got up from behind me and immediately restrained Eve before she could do anything else. My focus remained on Bezy as his eyes fluttered open and closed and I laid my hand on his hair. "Go to sleep, okay?" I whispered.

He nodded as he closed his eyes but his grin remained on his face. He laughed softly and opened his eyes to look at me one more time and I forced myself to smile back at him.

"I go play fairies," he said in a low and strained voice.

"Yes," I nodded. "Go play with the fairies, Bezy."

He gave me one last large smile before his breathing stopped and his hand went limp on my lap. My body shook with sobs as I held onto his hand and my heart ached. He was like a child to me. From the moment he was brought into the world, he'd been with me. I never dreamed to have him leave it before me.

I laid my head on his shoulder as the door burst in and I heard everyone enter. I felt someone run to my side but I couldn't bring myself to pay attention to who it was. The world around me was a swirl of blurry colors and the sounds were like static.

The only thing that was in complete focus and had any sort of clarity, was my memories of Bezy.

"Your highness," the guard said. "There is an abandoned demon in Hell."

"Okay," I said. "Take it to the adoption center. Why are you coming to me about it?"

"It's not...very pleasing to look at," he said. "I'm afraid we should spare it some misery and let it rest with the other souls."

"You're suggesting we kill a child?" I snapped.

"Forgive me if I speak out of turn, your majesty," another guard said. "Wouldn't you rather spare the child a bad life? It'll grow up to be ridiculed by its peers. He was born one day ago but resembles a one-year-old."

"Bring him to me," I said in irritation. After they knew I lost a child I had no idea why they would even bring up killing one as a choice.

The guard walked out of the large room and I tapped my fingers on my throne as I waited for him to come back. A few moments later, he emerged from here he disappeared with a large basket.

He walked up the steps to me and set the basket at my feet before returning to his position. I looked down at the basket to see it covered to the brim with blankets and I frowned.

"Why are there so many blankets?" I asked.

"Some of the guards couldn't bear to see his face," he said.
