I looked to Dimitri who had stopped walking and looked down at me with a raised brow, and I turned back to the reporter. "It's not true."

The screams amplified and we continued walking up the stairs amidst all the chaos. In front of us, a security guard fell down the stairs and a small group of people ran past them. The rest of the guards tried to hold them back but I stepped back as one tried to run towards me.

Forgetting that I was on stairs, I yelped as I fell backward and I closed my eyes to brace for contact. When the contact I made was with a hard body behind me and muscular arms around my waist, I opened my eyes.

I turned my head and looked up to see Syn looking down at me. "Watch, your step," he whispered. My mouth remained open in shock as he helped me stand up straight. My hands were on his broad shoulders and he let go of me when I was balanced on both of my feet.

The audience around us began screaming a lot louder if that were even possible, but I paid no attention to them. My eyes were stuck on Syn's, and his were on mine.

I was yanked away from him by Dimitri's arm on my shoulder and I spun around and landed against Dimitri's chest. "What are you doing here, SinClaire?"

"I was invited," Syn said as he held up a decorated red envelope.

"It's brave of you to appear in front of me after shooting me in the head. What if I told everyone here tonight?" Dimitri whispered with a smile.

"Please don't!" I begged as I looked at Dimitri. I was doing everything I could to keep Syn out of jail but it was getting hard. Dimitri shot me a glare for my outburst and I looked away from him.

I turned my head and my eyes landed on Syn who was looking at me, deep in thought. What are you thinking about?

"Don't worry, Queen," he said. "Let him tell the world. I can protect myself."

My heart stopped at his words and I felt my eyes water. Could he? He might have thought his words were just about shooting Dimitri, but for me, they applied to the things I was being threatened with.

"Are you sure?" I whispered.

I ignored the tightening grip on my arm by Dimitri. I knew he wouldn't hurt me in front of all these people with cameras. More importantly, he wouldn't hurt me in front of Syn. Syn was already somehow aware of the things Dimitri had done, so it was only a matter of time until hell broke loose.

"I'm sure. You don't need to protect me, Princess. Let me protect you," he said.

My brows furrowed and I wondered what changed his mind. Our conversation from yesterday was heated, to say the least. I made him believe I loved Dimitri and that I wanted power and a bunch of other bullshit. So what changed?

Before I could ask, Dimitri pulled my arm. "Let's go."
My eyes lingered on Syn as Dimitri tore me away from him and he winked at me. What are you up to, Syn?

I moved my head back to we were walking and Dimitri stormed inside. His smile was still on his face but I could tell he was beyond angry. My eyes landed on Xavier with Cleo and Caspian and I smiled as I waved at them.

They were grinning in my direction but their smiles faltered as Dimitri kept walking straight through the crowd. "Where are we going?"

"Shut your mouth," he said.

He opened another pair of doors and we walked through a busy kitchen area. Dimitri bumped into a bottle girl carrying a tray of liquor and it all fell to the floor with a loud bang.

"Are you okay..."

I tried to check on her but Dimitri ignore me and her and continued walking past the kitchen. We walked towards an elevator and he hurriedly pressed the button even though it was already coming.
