Jeremiah 9:24
NIV: But let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD.
NLT: But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken!
It's really easy to get caught up in the glory of our accomplishments... What WE have done and what's so great about us. This verse tells us that boasting about earthy things is worthless and means nothing, if we boast we should boast in the fact that we have an incredibly kind, just and righteous God. Not only should we do this cause God tells us to, but cause it pleases him and he delights in it... And don't you want to do everything you can to praise or Heavenly Father!! He sure is a pretty awesome God! I know I have made this mistake before and have bragged about what I've done and have forgotten to thank God for giving me the opportunity and the ability to win that medal or ace that test. After all, he deserves all the glory!
So next time you are tempted to brag about what you've done, take a step back and thank God for going you the ability to do that and instead if boasting about yourself, boast about God!!
