Setting: A mall + indoor amusement park
-
"No you are!" Devin gushed, leaning onto Shelly. Shelly giggled, pushing Devin away. The couple held hands, as they walked together around the mall.
Carried sighed, walking behind the couple once again, holding their shopping bags. It wasn't clear to her why she agreed to hang out with them for a mall day, when she was obviously going to be a third wheel. She didn't understand why she still liked Devin, when he never saw her the way she wanted to, and when he seemed to always ignore her for Shelly, the girl who would always treat him like shit.
As much as Carrie loved Devin, she was tired of always being treated like she was invisible. She loved him for as long as she could remember, but she was beginning to lose hope. Was he even worth this? She didn't know whether she would be able to move on or not.
"Carrie?" Devin asked, snapping Carrie out of her thoughts.
"Yeah?" Carrie asked, looking up from the ground.
Devin smiled, "Can you watch Shelly and I's stuff while we go to the mall's amusement park?"
Carrie sighed, but smiled and tried to hide her sadness. "Sure thing, homie."
"Thanks homie." Devin smiled, taking Shelly's hand as they walked away. Carrie sat on the bench, while Devin and Shelly walked away to pay for rides.
Shelly looked back, when Devin didn't notice, and flipped Carrie off. Shelly mouthed, "He's mine, bitch."
Carrie huffed in anger, biting her tongue. She knew not to respond back to Shelly, or Devin would hate her for it. Carrie didn't want to lose Devin, especially because they'd been best friends since childhood. So, she decided to just put up with it until he eventually realizes that Shelly is not a nice girl.
Carrie felt a tear escape, but she tried to push it back. However, she was a point where she couldn't stop the tears from falling. She covered her face, feeling embarrassed to cry in public.
"Hey, are you okay?" She heard someone ask. She looked up, seeing a pretty girl named Y/N L/N gazing at her in concern.
Carrie forced a smile, wiping her tears. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"It doesn't seem like it." You smiled, "Why are you sitting here by yourself? Did you need help holding your stuff?"
Carrie shook her head. "I just.. I'm with my best friend, Devin, and his girlfriend. Even though I was invited, the whole day they weren't talking to me and just had me hold their stuff or get food for them. I guess I just felt frustrated and broke down."
"That's messed up." You replied, sitting next to her. "They shouldn't be leaving you out, even though they're together. I mean, they invited you as their friend, not as a servant."
"Yup." Carrie sighed. "They bought numerous things, well, most of them were Shelly's things. I want to leave, but they're my ride."
"I would offer you a ride, but.. We just met each other." You chuckled. "Do you want to hang out? Maybe if we go on some of the rides together, it will make you feel better. I'll help you hold some of Shelly's stuff too."
Carrie smiled, standing up from the bench. She felt surprised by how easygoing you were. "Sure! But what's your name?"
"My name is Y/N." You smiled, reaching your hand out. "What's yours?"
"Carrie." Carrie responded, shaking your hand. "It's nice to meet you, Y/N."
You and Carrie walked around the amusement park to decide what ride to choose. You had Carrie decide first, since she was obviously still upset over Devin. Carrie decided on the pirate ship.
"Woah!" You and Carrie screamed, feeling the ride go higher.
"I don't know why I chose this!" Carrie screamed, feeling her hair fly up. Some of it went in your face.
You moved Carrie's hair out of your face, then moved your hand towards hers. "Do you want to hold my hand?"
Carrie nodded, moving her hand towards yours. She smiled a little, gripping your hand tightly.
You and Carrie continued to hold hands until the ride finished.
Afterward, it was your turn to pick what to do. This time, you decided to go to the amusement park's arcade.
"Let's try basketball." You grinned, still holding Carrie's hand. Carrie looked down at your hand locked with hers, feeling her face heat up. She didn't know why, but she would rather not let go.
You both challenged each other, and Carrie was impressed by your skills. She kept losing to you, until you purposely lost just so she could earn a point and have her moment. You had to admit that she looked cute when she won a round.
"Y/N, you didn't have to do that!" Carrie laughed, walking out of the arcade with you.
You chuckled, "But I wanted to! You looked sad when I kept winning and I wanted you to have a chance too.''
"I wasn't upset." Carrie answered. "But that was very sweet of you."
"Anything for you." You winked, and Carrie blushed.
For the first time since you left the arcade, as you walked around the mall with Carrie, you realized you were still holding her hand.
You blushed a little then let go. "I'm sorry about that. I kind of got distracted."
Carrie smiled a little, feeling a funny feeling in her chest. "It's okay. I kind of liked it."
"Then maybe we should do that more often." You teased.
Carrie giggled, feeling some newfound confidence. "Maybe we should."
You reached for Carrie's hand again, and you held hands, walking around the mall together to check different stores. As you were walking around together, you got to know each other more. You both learned you were the same age, you went to the different schools that were near each other, and you both had an interest in art.
"I want to see some of your drawings one day." You told her, walking into an art store with her. "You sound really talented."
"Some of them are cringe, but my art teacher says they're great." Carrie smiled.
"I want to see them even more." You chuckled, then looked at some paints. "Hey, those paints look cool. I've never seen those types of colors in shops."
Carrie gazed at the paints. "Wow! I wish I had those."
You both walked up to them, and you had an idea. You took two packs of them, then headed to the cashier.
Carrie chuckled, "I'm glad you found something you liked already."
You smirked, then paid the cashier. "No, these are for you."
"What?" Carrie asked, looking at you in shock. "Y/N, you don't have to-"
"I insist." You gave her a gentle smile. "I just.. I wanted to get you something just incase we lose contact after our time today."
"But.." Carrie sighed. "I wanted us to keep in touch."
"Really?" You asked, walking out of the store with her.
"Yes!" Carrie exclaimed, putting down Shelly's things. She gave you a hug. "You made today a lot better for me. I want to talk to you again soon."
You blushed, hugging her back. "I would like that a lot."
"Hey Carrie." Devin greeted from behind you two. He looked confused as to who you were, while Shelly just looked annoyed. "Where have you been? I tried to call you, but you weren't answering, so Shelly and I went looking for you. We were worried."
Carrie took her phone out of her pocket, then looked at it. "Oh, I'm sorry. My phone was on silent, and I was hanging out with my new friend, Y/N."
"Y/N?" Shelly scoffed, glaring at you. You rolled your eyes, and tried to ignore her. You could already tell she was a bitch.
"Oh." Devin chuckled. "Next time text me, okay homie?"
"Okay." Carrie sighed.
"We gotta go. Shelly wants to go to a restaurant now." Devin said, gesturing Carrie to walk with them. "It was nice meeting you, Y/N, but we have to go."
Carrie frowned and looked at you sadly. "Bye Y/N."
You gave Carrie another hug. "Bye Carrie. We'll meet again soon, alright?"
Carrie nodded, feeling a blush creep across her face. "Definitely."
Before Carrie left, you both exchanged numbers and agreed to hang out sometime. As Carrie walked with Devin and Shelly out of the mall, for the first time, she didn't care that they walked further from her and got lost in their own conversation like she wasn't even there. She only thought about you and when you were going to see each other again.
Carrie got into the backseat of Devin's car, taking the paints you bought for her out of the plastic bag. She smiled, hugging it towards her.
"I'll see you again soon, Y/N." Carrie whispered.
