Your close friend, Natalie, who was a talk show host for her show called "What's new with Nat?" had her wedding reception tonight at a hotel ballroom. You had helped her set up, along with getting the decorations, and the rest of your friends who were actresses and singers were going to attend. You knew most of the people Natalie was inviting, but the rest were her other friends and family.
You arrived into the ballroom, admiring the dim lighting and elegant roses everywhere. Pop music was playing, and already a lot of people were here even though the reception just started. You greeted Natalie and her husband, and talked for a bit then went to line up for food. You finished gathering food for your plate, then took a seat, saying hi to the rest of your friends.
"Y/N, why don't you go up and sing karaoke?" One of your friends suggested. You looked towards the stage, seeing some people line up to go sing.
"I'm not that good at singing." You laughed, but your group of friends kept encouraging you.
"Alright, alright!" You agreed, walking in line.
Finally, it was your turn then you got up on stage choosing a song that was easy, yet meaningful to sing.
"He said let's get out of this town, drive out of the city, away from the crowds.. I thought heaven can't help me now, nothing lasts forever."
As you were singing, you spotted a familiar face in the crowd watching you. Your heart slowed a little, when you recognized the person as Chris McLean. The one who broke your heart years ago.
You've have not heard from Chris since that night you saw him kissing Blainely. That was four years ago. When the news spread like wildfire that they were together four years ago, you couldn't believe that he just gave up on you like that. He never bothered to call you to explain himself or apologize. He just left you.
It took you so many years to move on. You weren't even sure if you completely did move on, since he was your first love. You also weren't sure, however, if he was still with Blainely today.
You finished the song, getting off stage hearing a round of applause, as you went back to your seat.
You grinned, hearing your friends give you encouraging praises.

You made it a point to not run into Chris. When you thought you saw him coming your way, you would excuse yourself from whoever you were speaking to, then go somewhere else. Everyone was dancing to the music in the ballroom, then you got tired of dancing and went to sit in your seat. Some of your friends had too much wine to drink, laughing over everything and tripping over their own feet.
"That was pretty impressive, Y/N." You heard Chris say. You looked up, seeing him in front of you, looking slightly nervous.
"Thank you." You mumbled, looking down, sipping your iced tea. He was the last person you wanted to see tonight, and you hoped he would go away.
Chris sat next to you, as you both watched the people dance. You avoided his gaze as you caught him staring at you from peripheral view. He cleared his throat then stood up, holding out his hand, "Want to dance?"
Just as you were about to say no, Natalie walked over to you guys with a big smile, "Hey Y/N! I see you and Chris are reunited, that's great! I always knew you guys would get back together. Anyway, you two should invite me if you guys have a wedding of your own!"
You looked down, feeling your face heat up awkwardly, "Nat, we aren't-''
"Stop being so humble! It's okay to share the good news with me at my wedding reception!" Natalie laughed. "See you two lovebirds later!"
Chris shifted awkwardly, touching his hair and avoided your gaze. You stayed silent, unsure of what to do next.
After a few moments, Chris spoke up again, smirking at you, "Since your best friend thinks we're together, we might as well dance this one time so we don't have to disappoint her."
"You just want an excuse to talk to me."
"Maybe. Maybe not." Chris winked, pulling you to the dance floor, "Come on."
You and Chris danced to the slow jazz music that was playing throughout the ballroom. Chris twirled you around, then put his hands on your shoulders, swaying slowly. As you both danced together, you were catching up and talking about the upcoming film you'll be starring in.
"This is my first major role. I'm nervous about it." You admitted to Chris.
Chris kept his hands on your shoulders, then twirled you again, "I'm sure you will be fine. You've started in a lot of films before."
You nodded, "I heard that Total Drama was a success. Have you done any other shows besides that since the series ended?"
"No." Chris shook his head, "But I plan to revive it in 2023. It is by popular demand that I make a new season."
"I'm happy for you!" You smiled, "I can't wait to hear all about it."
Chris glanced towards the door, then asked, "Want to go outside?"
"Sure."
-
It felt like old times when you were speaking to Chris. Your feelings from the old days came back in the form of his arrogant personality, his enchanting smile, and everything else about him. You couldn't understand why you were drawn to him.
"Chef is crazy for that." You laughed, leaning back against your chair.
"I know!" Chris grinned, "He really thought our campers would fall for that."
You both sat in comfortable silence for five minutes until you spoke up, "So.. What happened that night?"
Chris raised an eyebrow then asked, "What night?"
"The night of the award ceremony. The last time I saw you." You said, sheepishly.
"Oh yeah." Chris said, looking down at his feet. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Why not?"
"I just don't want to."
"Fine." You shrugged, feeling slightly irritated.
"But I'd like to take you on a date tomorrow." Chris told you, smiling.
"You know I can't do that, Chris." You said, looking up at the stars. "I can't risk getting hurt again by you."
"It's just a date, Y/N." Chris assured.
"It's more than a date. It's my feelings you're dealing with. I can't keep letting you mess with them." You told him. Chris frowned, still not understanding where you're coming from.
"You're being silly." Chris argued, giving you a glare. "Is it because of that night? We weren't even officially together!"
"But you led me on!" You exclaimed, getting up from your seat. "You wanted to take things slow, and you act all lovey with me, then all of a sudden - boom. You kissed Blainely and never offered an explanation or spoke to me again. You know what - it's getting cold. I'm going back inside."
You stormed back into the building, before Chris could stop you. You were tired, overwhelmed and just wanted to go home.
-
"Who are these flowers from?" Your manager asked, giving you a bouquet of flowers.
You were at the studio, practicing your lines before filming. After last night, you just wanted things to go back to normal and to never hear from Chris ever again.
You took the bouquet of flowers from your manager, then noticed a small note inside them. You opened the note, seeing it was from Chris.
"I still want a date with you. Give me a call."
You scoffed, putting the bouquet down at your table. "Just someone from my past."
Your manager smirked then walked away, "Oh well, good luck with that."
Why was Chris even sending you flowers? You thought. Was it to mess with your head even more? It was hard enough to trust him again after he had just ditched you for Blainely four years ago. They obviously weren't together anymore, considering he is trying to pursue you now.
For the next two weeks, the flower routine went on where Chris sent notes to ask you on a date. You wondered why he was being romantic, when he was not usually the romance type. This routine went on, until Chris showed up at the studio, asking the manager where you were.
"What do you want, Chris?" You huffed, walking outside towards him. "I don't want to go out with you. Not after everything that happened."
Chris looked down, shifting his arms. "I just want you to give me another chance."
"Why?"
"Because.. Because I love you, Y/N." He confessed. You both looked away from each other, deep in thought.
You sighed, "One date."
"What?"
"One date." You repeated. "One date and I will think about it."
"Okay.." Chris said, hesitantly. "One date it is."
You nodded, then walked back inside. One date shouldn't be that bad. You couldn't help but feel your heart swell at his confession that he loved you.
-
Chris took you to a small cafe, where not a lot of people went. A few people recognized you two, but for the most part you both had a lot of privacy.
"I have to admit, this is really good." You commented, eating your cheesecake. Chris nodded, and you both stayed silent for several minutes, enjoying the scenery of the cafe.
"Chris.. If you really want us to be together, you need to tell me the truth." You said, looking at him across from you.
"Why Y/N? Why on the first date? We are having a good time!" Chris said, rolling his eyes.
"Because I need to know you won't do it again!" You said, glaring at him.
Chris sighed, running his hand through his hair, "I know. Would you just let me think first? I hate getting all emotional. It's really weird."
Chris stayed silent, then spoke up, "I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to kiss Blainely." Before you could ask him why he kissed her, he continued, "The reason is, I wasn't sure if things would work out between us. We had a lot on our plate at the time, and I figured you would move on already. Then, you saw us together. I never thought to approach you after that because I didn't see a point. You probably hated me."
You reached for his hands across the table, giving him a gentle smile. Chris avoided your gaze, looking embarrassed. You knew he wasn't the type to like to admit his feelings, and his mistakes. But to him, you were special.
"Let's take things slow." You said. "I want things to go back to normal, but with you in it."
"Do we have to take it slow?" Chris whined. "You already know we want each other!"
You laughed, "Yes! Learn to be patient!"
Chris shook his head, chuckling. "Deal."
