For those of you who don't know what the GCSE grades equal here is an explanation, and what they used to be in letter form:

9 - the highest grade you can get. Equivalent to an A*/A**

8 - Equivalent to an A* (A star)

7 - Equivalent to an A

6 - Equivalent to a B

5 - Equivalent to a C

4 - The lowest pass grade. Equivalent to a D

3 - Equivalent to an E. Fail grade.

2 - Equivalent to an F. Fail grade.

1 - the lowest grade you can get. Equivalent to a G. Fail grade

U - Ungraded. When the person has failed to meet certain standards in a GCSE exam. Basically a straight up fail.
