There were a couple of regulars tonight, and they all noticed that the pretty bartender was extremely and unmistakably distracted tonight. He was smiling politely, but his eyes were searching, darting in the direction of one particular corner of the bar, and the coming of nightfall and artificial light could not hide that.

Jiang Cheng was working hectically, feverishly.

He was impatient to serve whatever drinks as quickly as possible, so that would be done,  and he could observe those two,  who, quite unfairly, had sneaked away, and had now been talking for more than an hour. This couldn't possibly be healthy!

His sister looked angry, then she looked sad, and Lan Huan was looking like his usual self  –  changing masks as if they were handkerchiefs. There was a serious look on his face, and a concerned one, and a sneering one, and an intrigued one, and a goofy, a joking one.

His body still remembered all the gentle petting, and that amazing kiss in the car, and also the look in his lover's eyes when he was force-feeding him cake. He was blushing intensely, telling himself that he had to get a grip, that his absolute fascination with this man was not a good idea, that he had 13 hours of work ahead, and it was a Friday night, and it was going to be full-house at least till midnight. He had had a 3-day break after Lan Xichen's birthday, and then almost two days extra because of the heavy blizzards and snow, he had to be grateful.

He sighed and turned around to fetch a bottle of scotch from the top shelf. And then he felt it. Getting on tiptoe stretched his pants a little and he felt it. The bracelet around his ankle. He froze for a moment, closing his eyes, remembering the tenderness in Lan Huan's voice, in his fingertips, as he put it on him... It had almost felt like... a promise.

Like a ring.

- Are you OK, chief?  –  the nearest client asked him, a little worried.

He had turned around, extremely flushed, remembering their love, their nights, their whispered words. Jiang Wanyin just smiled and shook his head, but his eyes fixed themselves again on that tall, strong body, on that mocking smile, on the long hair, now caught up in a ponytail, on his smooth gestures, eating cake now and waving a fork in the air.

His heart was pulled towards him so awfully that he felt sick.
