- How are you?

- I never thought it would feel so good, Huan... I'm happy.

- You are not mad at me? Uhhh, for yesterday?

- I am not sure I have the right to be.

- Will you stay?

- I'm here.

It had been hours.

They were sitting comfortably together, drinking their coffee, drinking tea later, holding each other, touching and caressing all over all the time. Words were rare, and unnecessary; they were left for later.

Jiang Cheng enjoyed leaning his head against Lan Xichen's chest, listening to the beating of his heart; it was the best music in the world. He enjoyed feeling the loving hands, stroking his body, holding him close, and the patient lips, kissing his hair and his cheeks. There was such a heartbreaking tenderness in all these small gestures that it all hurled his mind back, to his childhood, when he had truly craved a mother's caress, a mother's loving kiss. Too often, he just could not stop his tears from falling, but those were tears that meant happiness today. Yes, he was happy.

He was thankful.

He was glad that Lan Xichen was giving him time, not really pressing him or forcing him into sex or even into kissing  –  as he had suspected it all would be. It seemed the young lawyer was true to his word when he said that just being with him was enough. He was staring into his face, amazed at how extraordinary the older man was.

- What do you see, Wanyin?  –  he asked quietly.

- I see grace.  –  Jiang Wanyin whispered.

Lan Huan looked away, upset. Last night had been nothing like grace. Just the opposite.

- I wish it was true.  –  he mumbled.

- I see your soul.  -  Jiang Cheng whispered.  –  And it is beautiful.

There was a silence, a new kiss.

- Why did you change your mind?  –  Lan Xichen asked, blushing.

- You saved my life. I've been wanting to thank you for days...  -  Jiang Cheng murmured.

Lan Huan froze.

- I... I don't want this to be... a... debt you feel you have to pay... I...  -  he stuttered, feeling his heart sink terribly.

- It's not.  -  Jiang Cheng said firmly, interrupting him.

Lan Xichen tried to push him away from himself a little, doubting those words.
