DURING THE CAR RIDE TO FORKS HIGH SCHOOL, we seemed to have nothing to talk about. I knew what I was thinking about, besides having to find a way to not be so eye-catching to the human teenage boys, which would be impossible being what I am, I was thinking about Lucy and Mary Alice's warning.
I worried that it was in fact, possible for her to know too much, for her to have known exactly what I was while I was treating her. But she couldn't have known, there was no way she would have been so confident with my treated her if she had known.
Unless her intuition told her you were safe.
I planned to try and find a way to talk to Esme and Carlisle, see if they could talk to Lucy for me. Dig in her mind to the best they could find out how much she knew. Or maybe I didn't have to involve my brother and sister, maybe my telepathic nephew would do the job. I had never purposefully used Edward's talents for my own sake before-
"You're worrying," Igor said, pulling me out of my bubble. "You're chewing your lip. What are you worrying about?"

I was chewing my lip? I looked out the front window as we pulled into the school, of course, we were the first people there. I'd be waiting a while before other staff arrived to unlock the doors.
"What's on your mind, Miss Elizabeth?" Igor whispered, turning in the car to be facing me.
"The same thing that is on yours."
"Lucy," he said and sighed. "Try not to think about it too hard, Miss Elizabeth. If we truly have damned that girl to our eternal night, she is not our worry anymore. We are no longer in Nanaimo, we are not her local vampires-"
"You don't really believe she'd let Esme or Carlisle bite her? If she's set on becoming one of us, she'll make one of us do it."
"She'd have to know how to contact us first, that and she believes you're dead."
She looked right at me, I thought, remembering my memorial at Nanaimo Hospital. "Her intuition, Igor, is not so unlike Mary's visions. I think we may have to face the high possibility that she knows more than we anticipate."
"Did her past her tell you anything?"
"Her past told me that she was a very sick girl who was trying to stay alive and didn't bother trying to figure out why we were different," I answered.
     "Than that hasn't changed-"
"She looked at me, Igor. At the memorial, she looked directly at me."
Igor sighed as another car pulled into the carpark.
"We'll see if Edward can hear anything from her to get just how much she knows. If she knows too much, Miss Elizabeth..."
"Then we've practically sealed her fate. I know," I grabbed my bag as the elderly woman with dyed red hair stared at our car while walking towards the building with 'RECEPTION' written above the door. "Drive safe."
I kissed Igor before leaving the car, immediately hearing Ms Shelley Cope's heart begin to race and she dropped her keys. Igor pulled away as I pulled my jacket tighter around my chest, hicked my bag further up my shoulder and rushed over to her. Well, human speed rush.
"Wh... who...." Shelley stuttered, staring at me wide-eyed.
"Eliza Fraser," I smiled at her. "The new school nurse? It's my first day today!"
"Oh! Silly me, of course!" she gasped and fumbled getting the keys in the door. "Welcome to Forks! My name is Shelley Cope I'm the receptionist here at Forks High School. Welcome, oh, I already said that. Never mind, oh!"
She dropped the keys again, this time into a cold puddle.
     "Sorry, sorry. I'm sorry."
"Is everything alright, Ms Cope?" I asked.
"Please, Shelley is fine. And yes, yes, everything is fine. Just fine."
I caught her staring at me in the reflection of the glass, her cheeks pooled with blood as she shook her head as if clearing out a thought. What I would do to have just a whiff of her past at that moment, to know her worries.
Though, I could guess. As I looked at my own reflection, hair up, grey jacket. If it weren't for being a woman, and the fact that I was wearing a dress and heels, I looked like Carlisle. No surprise there.
"Sorry, what did you say your name was again?" Shelley asked.
     "Eliza Fraser."
"Right! Right, of course. Of course."
She picked up the keys and took a very deep breath before unlocking the door finally and letting us in.
"Oh for... sorry, it's always freezing in here at this time!" Shelley rushed around her desk to what I could only assume was the heating system and got it working. After clicking a few buttons on the pad, the building was filled with a low, groaning, hum and a few quiet clangs.
"There we go, that'll heat the place up in a bit. Okay..." She looked around for a little bit. "Okay, um..." She looked at me again, her cheeks flushed, her heart still pounding.
"Are you alright, Ms Cope?" I asked.
"Please. Please, Shelley is fine. The students call me Ms Cope. And yes. Yes, I am you just look like someone who... do you have a brother?"
I tried to act as if the question bothered me. Perhaps Carlisle and I had a falling out a very long time ago and we stopped talking to each other? I'd need to find some reason as to why I cannot contact Bella for Charlie. "Yes," I snapped.
     "Touchy subject?"

Humans. They can never have enough gossip. "Very," I answered.
"Okay, that's it then. Okay... um... bags! Right! Your things! Follow me and I'll give you the grand tour before you begin your first day at Forks High School!"
