"MAY I SEE YOUR WORK?" Jasper asked as Elizabeth continued to create whatever she was drawing.
     "When it's done," she answered.
"This drawing, it's during the Civil War," I said. I had noticed the confederate flag in the background of her picture.
"Before he was turned," Elizabeth said with a nod. "Loyal soldiers will do anything for their country. Unfortunately, parts of the other time I remember well, are moments of soldiers killing too many for their countries. And one of those eventful battles hasn't even come to pass yet."
     The second great war.
"Yeah, I've seen that one," Mary said. I heard her move towards the stairs but not start to ascend. "By the way, Jaz, you're definitely not allowed to fight for America, just saying."
It gave me thought. The second great war... Adolf Hitler... Germany was now what used to be my human homeland. And now that I knew and remembered the pain and torture that will come out of what once was my homeland, it irritated me. I wanted to be there to stop it. But Mary...
"Mary, would you like to be with Carlisle during those years?" I asked.
"She won't agree," Mary laughed. "We both know how she feels about wars."
My eyes shot back to Elizabeth as she stopped drawing and looked over her shoulder to me with a raised brow in suspicion.
"I'll explain later," I told her.
She didn't turn away. Thanks, Mary.
"And Jaz and I can probably go on our own for those years, right? Before going to the Cullen's. It's where we end up, we might as well enjoy ourselves before we torture Edward with another couple to be around," Mary continued.
Elizabeth turned so she was fully facing me, still waiting for me to explain.
"I promise, I will explain later," I sighed, then kissed her, before I left the studio to rejoin Mary and Jasper downstairs.
"Oh, and thanks for the new bed," Mary said with a grin.
I could see Jasper's shoulders suddenly tense and he looked worried but amazed at Mary.
"Come on," she said as she took his hand and guided him upstairs, to her room.
"Good luck," I whispered as he passed me.
"Should I need luck, Miss Mary?" Jasper asked.
     "Definitely," Mary laughed.
"I'm going for a run," I said, unable to hold back my own laughter. "Miss Elizabeth, will you join me?"
"I think I shall," she responded. I could hear the smile in her voice.
I heard her taking off her charcoal apron as I ran outside, she jumped out the glass screen door we had put in every room for an easy exit and met me at the treeline.
We didn't run very far. Miss Elizabeth stopped as we passed by a very large rock, she had to jump to get atop it where she sat.
"Miss Elizabeth?" I said looking up at her.
"I never believed in the butterfly effect, Igor," she muttered. "Even with all of Carlisle's worried babbling, I never actually thought it real."
     "But?"
I jumped up to join her on the large rock, sitting beside her as she looked up through the canopy.
"I understand why my human life was different. It would have been impossible for it to be the same with you two remembering what you do. And Esme's I understand as well, she knew who to avoid due to her reoccurring dream. But Mary's life was different, Edward's life, and now Jasper's? Not to mention the monsters. We never encountered a medusa in the other timeline. Well, you didn't, and I think I'd remember if I did. And there's more... more to the change in Edward's life that he doesn't want me to say," she sighed then laid back against the rock.
So that was what she had paused over before earlier. Edward's secret. "As for the differences, I'm not sure what to say. I don't understand the monsters either, where did they come from and why weren't they around last time. But no matter what else comes at us, we will face it as a family, whatever it is. Without death."
She looked up at me, sadness swimming in her eyes.
"It does make you wonder," I continued, "what else is different and what else will be different. It's exciting."
"I'm glad you're enjoying it," she sighed and sat back up again, still watching me. "Is it later yet?"
I sighed, there was no way to avoid this conversation any longer, she wouldn't let it drop now she knew I had a plan to discuss with her. I had hoped it could be discussed closer to the date.
"I want to be somewhere different this time. For the second great war," I confessed. "You won't like it, but I want to be in Germany."
     "What?" she gasped.
"Technically, it is my homeland, Miss Elizabeth and this time I don't drink human blood. I want to try and make things different."
"We shouldn't mess with things as big as this, Igor. We don't want to mess up history more than what is necessary."
"But shouldn't we try? At least to improve some of the Jewish lives in Europe?"
She chuckled weakly and ran her hands through her hair before looking at me again.
"What would we do in Europe, Igor? Wear long clothes and beige coloured gloves?  There's too much sun." She had a point.
"So we don't go out in the day, we help however we can during the night. I just-"
"You're so honourable," she said with the biggest grin on her face her eyes were almost slits.
She pushed me back so I was laying on the rock, and she climbed atop me, sitting over me, her hands on either side of my head.
"We have to be smart, Igor. Tactical. You can't think these kinds of things through with your heart," she whispered while sitting atop me, in the perfect place.
I could feel her warmth through our clothes, and it only made me want to tear through her trousers and my own and be closer to that warmth.
"The Volturi will be watching, every single move," she continued.
I sat up, surprisingly she let me, and I held her right where she was. Arms now around my shoulders, legs still on either side of me, chest against mine. Lips only a breath apart.
"I am not hearing a no, Miss Elizabeth," I said.
"I'd never deny you this," she whispered. Her eyes closed slightly and her breath hitched.
Was she still talking about Germany? Or how our bodies were positioned at that moment?
She moved her hips the tiniest bit, a small circle, but it shot that electricity straight through me and I wanted her just like I always had, just like the first time I wanted her. Pure, unadulterated, sinful, lust.
I felt a growl or a groan bubble up from my chest and she chuckled. Miss Elizabeth leant back and smiled at me with a curious, knowing look in her eyes. Was she testing me?
     "You're a monster," I growled.
She laughed her beautiful laugh that gave me my life. How she threw her head back to laugh gave me a view of the arches of her neck, her still artery. The image of her dying as Verity was birthed pushed itself into my head so to remove that image, I held my lips to her throat. I felt her gasp and shudder under the touch. Her fingers instantly locking themselves in my head.
"What was that about not thinking with your heart?" I said into her neck.
"What was that about me being the monster?" she sighed in response.
We pulled away from each other this time, though our hips and legs never parted, just our heads and chests.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked her. "Germany? You can say no, Miss Elizabeth. Though I will not hideout with the Denali sisters again like a child."
"I trust that you will make the right decisions for this family," she responded, "and I will follow you anywhere those decisions may lead. Even if I think it's ridiculous."
     "Thank you."
"Verity will want to come." Miss Elizabeth relaxed her body against mine again, it felt comforting. Warm in the best places. She rested her head on my shoulder. "I don't want her near a warzone but I don't think we can avoid it. It's your homeland after all."
"We'll figure out what to do with Verity when we get to it, I don't want here near any warzones either. But we also have to remember that she is a Cullen by blood, she's stronger than she puts on."
"She's also a Farkas," Elizabeth said as she let herself slide off the rock. "And that makes her a warrior."
"Our daughter sounds like such a patriot."
Elizabeth laughed her beautiful laugh that lightened my eternal night.
I then joined her on the ground and we finally hunted for the weekend.
