IGOR AND JOHNATHON RETURNED TO THE CHURCH BOTH LOOKING ABSOLUTELY EXHAUSTED.
     "Any good news?" Carlisle asked.
"None, unfortunately," Johnathon said as he approached Laurel.
"All of Father Cullen's men were killed last night," Igor stated. "Some bodies are yet to be found but all those that have been found were burnt."
"Who gave that order?" Elling asked.
     "Myself."
     "Why would you do that?"
"Because Miss Elizabeth told me stories about the streets and the monsters living there with her. Nothing could hurt a vampire but fire, so that's what I did. Killed them with fire before they could wake up one of them."
Carlisle, he and I knew that the thought of someone could die and just wake up a vampire was absolutely preposterous. Venom couldn't heal death. But for the sake of Igor's secret and the humans, we lied.
"The four of you better get moving, it's dark and with last nights attack-"
"That's what we're here for," Johnathon said as he approached Laurel. "I'm taking you home."
"But I'm not," Igor said looking at me. "Carlisle, I was thinking it'll be best Elizabeth stayed here tonight. I will be going out again with a couple of the men to find more victims and the monsters themselves, and I don't want her home alone."
"Of course, she can stay here!" Elling shouted. "This is her home, too!"
"Are you going back out as well?" Laurel asked.
"Igor won't let me," Johnathon chuckled.
"He has a son to help raise, he's staying indoors tonight," my Igor stated firmly.
Johnathon nodded stiffly though he looked slightly annoyed.
I walked up to Igor and gave him a steady embrace.
"What are you really doing?" I asked in a whisper.
"I will be talking to Alfred and the others again. Carlisle's expression frightens me," Igor whispered back.
"I will see if I can find out what is bothering him."
     "Thank you."
He kissed me before backing back to the door.
"Come on, you two best get that little one home," Igor stated as he held the door open for Johnathon and Laurel.
"Good luck, friend," Johnathon said rested a quick hand on Igor's shoulder before he walked out.
"Good night," Laurel said looking to Carlisle and me.
They left and Igor turned to me with the most gentle smile.
"I will be back by morning, I promise," Igor said before leaving.
Carlisle stayed with Elling and me as we made dinner, and I told them more about my life with Igor. Everything besides the lack of him sleeping with me and everything else that Elling couldn't know about.
Not even halfway Elling was under the strong impression that Igor had been God's gift to me for all my hardships growing up.
And then following that announcement, Elling decided to talk wedding. She was very excited and wanted to go head-first into ceremony planning.
"We only want a small ceremony, Elling," I stated. "We don't really have a lot of friends, and all I care for being there are yourself and Carlisle. Father Azelf has already agreed to marry us in his church. Traditionally of course."
"Have you two set a date?" Carlisle asked, joining us in his nightwear. By this point in the conversation, Elling was preparing the couch for me to sleep upon.
"A month before the anniversary of my moving in with him," I stated. "So it is not really that far away. Under a full seasons change. We believe we can get it all organised between now and then."
"Why such a short time?" Carlisle asked.
"Because life is short," I stated. "Father's passing as proven that. Igor and I want to be together in every way humanly possible before something happens to either of us."
"Every way humanly possible?" Carlisle repeated.
"That," I immediately caught on to his tone. Back to Edward and Bella worries. "Has not been discussed, and I will not push it with him," I said firmly.
"That," Elling chirped. "Isn't any of your business anyway, Carlisle. That is between them."
I smiled at her and she gave me a wink.
It wasn't much longer after that, that Carlisle and Elling excused themselves to get some sleep. Being so close to her basement, I could hear Elling crying, mourning the loss of Father Cullen. I tried to ignore it. I knew she needed tonight to get over losing her boss, and then I wondered how Carlisle was taking it but when I stood to go check on him, my gut told me to not move at all.
Then there was a very loud banging on the door. It startled me almost out of my dress.
I grabbed a lantern and walked towards the door, at this hour of the night a visit was suspicious, church or not. I had to remind myself that anything I needed to be afraid of could easily just knock down the door without knocking, so I opened it.
I took a small, startled step away from the bright red eyes staring intently at me, then suddenly, Igor was behind the vampire, mouth right at the stranger's throat.
"Why are you here?" Igor growled into his neck.
"Why is this human so important to you?" the vampire growled.
Igor bit into the vampire's neck and tore his head clear off, he paused before looking at me and I smiled at him.
"How are you?" he asked me.
"I just watched my fiance tear off the head of a man who probably wanted to kill me. I'm lovely. Busy night so far?"
"The vampires remaining have split between those who want humans and those who want peace. We're trying to banish those who only want humans and chase them out of London before next year," Igor informed me.
"Then you best get back to work," I said calmly.
     "I love you, Miss Elizabeth."
     "And I love you, Igor."
He smiled at me then carried the corpse out of sight, hopefully, to burn it before he could regenerate.
I closed the door and walked back to the couch bed. I had made sure that I had closed the door loudly so Elling and Carlisle heard and would not bother to investigate. I had been living with a vampire for many seasons, there was no longer anything Igor could do that would scare me now.
And then I thought about his hunting and tried to picture it. Igor, gracefully pouncing on a deer or a wild lion, or a wild bear, and then I ended up dreaming about it. Running through the woods, not with him carrying me but I was by his side. We ran until we reached a waterfall.
He kissed me deeply at the edge of the waterfall, we were interrupted by a pack of mountain lions that we both feasted upon.
     Then I woke up.
Igor was 'asleep' on the floor beside me when I woke, his hands wrapped around me and his head on his arms.
"He was like that when I woke," Elling whispered from the archway to the kitchen.
I kissed his hand and softly slipped mine out of it before crawling over him to Elling.
"Carlisle is using the washroom now, but you can help yourself to utilities when he finishes. It saddens me, he is going to be expected to take his Father's position now. Both with the church and the hunts," Elling whimpered. "I do hope he does not meet the same fate."
"Carlisle knows what he's looking out for, he is not Nicholas," I said and began making myself some tea. "He will survive."
"Elizabeth?" Igor groaned, leaning against the kitchen doorframe.
"Igor, sorry, did I wake you?" I asked stupidly. Of course, he knew I wasn't being serious... Elling didn't.
"Not at all. The sun did."
"Sun?" I turned to look outside, the bright yellow-white glow of the sunlight was shining rather brightly through the window. "Oh... well... it is definitely a bright day for London."
And all I could think about was my vampire fiance, leaning against a doorframe in the middle of a church, hiding as much in the shadows as he could.
