Coughing and pounding on her chest, Fayth grabbed her water and took a long drink. Pain burned her chest as the pressure of a big bite of food slid down her tract before the water.

She looked back down at her plate, considering standing up and leaving.

No. It would mean I'm running away from him. It'll be suspicious.

She felt his sharp gaze on her. It seemed like if she had sat there for even a minute more, he was going to reassemble a puzzle he was putting together on her face.

He knows how I am. There shouldn't be a reason to hide it. If anything, he should realize by now how much I dislike being near him.

She stood up and took ahold of her tray.

"I said don't move." He looked up at her face. Blinked once, more emotion draining right into hell from his eyes.

He was terrifying again. He was angry, hateful as steel, and without a doubt, she could see the person she saw the very first time she walked into her dorm.

"I have to go." She swallowed the lump in her throat. The words barely made it out, and it was obvious how much her voice shook. "My stomach hurts."

"You know what being mentally damaged is like, that hurts a lot more than physical pain. Sit."

She sat back down, and wondered why he chose to sit across from her. Why he wanted to be near her. She was aware of how much she disliked him, but was even more conscious of how much he absolutely detested her.

She glanced up. His expression almost gave her a heart attack. He was lethal again.

It was faint at first, but two minutes later, her body started to show the fear she was feeling, and it began to shake and shiver.

She attempted to stand up again.

He moved forward and with anger, pushed her shoulder down, shoving her harshly back against the seat. "Stay. Don't you understand. You're avoiding what you need to see. Your avoiding my questioning, which could only mean there are so many answers that I still don't know."

His touch was electrifying her, making her sick to the stomach and on the verge of hurling the food she ate right out.

"And they're for me. Answers for me. Now I'm sure of that, at the very least." His voice was low, dead enough to make her heart beat with absolute fear.

How did he know? Does he remember?

Whispers began to travel across the dining hall as his actions began to attract attention. Without a clue why, she wished that Anthony, out of all people, to be there with her then.

Why did he suddenly change like this? For awhile he was treating me with less hostility, what made him pick up on it again?

She closed her eyes and clutched her knees, her heart palpitating dangerously in her chest.

Lexis squinted his eyes and studied her expression. If anything, he expected her to be more comfortable around him, more collected. Instead, she was still as fearful. She was still as revolted by him.

This can't be the same person. It's nearly impossible for someone who is behaving as she is now to pull a stunt so daring like the one from last night. I'd be damned if she can act this well if that was the case.

A hand slammed the table.

They both looked up and Fayth was instantly relieved to see Charles.

"What the hell are you sitting with Rihanna for?" Charles demanded. "I own her."

Lexis' eyes were thoughtful as they stared at Charles for a long moment. Silence stretched on before he blinked, and with a lazy smile, he said. "Prove it." He looked back at Fayth. "Show me that you own her." He threw at her a handkerchief from his pocket. The expensive silk slipped on the table and landed in front of her "Let her wipe your shoes for you."

A lump formed inside Charles' throat and disappeared, suddenly caught in an uneasy expression. Fayth looked down at her tray to hide her shock. Slowly, an audience started forming around them, and she became more skeptical that this was going to end on a good note.

Charles leaned forward, his nose flaring. "If you knew who she–"

Fayth's eyes jolted wide open at the stupid remark Charles was going to make. She quickly stood to her feet, clenching Lexis' handkerchief between her fingers.

"I'll do it." She quietly said, interrupting Charles.

Charles stared at her with surprise.

Feeling humiliated from the stares and snickers she received from those around her, she went around the table. Fighting her heart's burden, she knelt on her knees in front of Charles. With shaking hands, she folded the handkerchief neatly and began wiping Charles black leather shoes.

And in the same exact moment...

Lexis jolted to his feet, his legs pushing the chair back. It flipped on the floor as he stared at Fayth.

Charles grabbed her shoulders and pulled her to stand up.

"I said I owned her. Everything about her." Charles argued.

Lexis, who stood speechless, had a strange look on his face. He was in fact bashed with disbelief. A monster clawed at his insides as he stared at Charles' hands on her shoulders. He wanted to rip them off. To strangle him right into the fallen pit of Earth. And all for the wrong reasons. It wasn't because he had something against Charles this time, but in actuality...

It was a feeling sprouting from the underlying egocentric fragment of what is all detestable and detrimental.

Charles looked around him, at those who were staring. "This woman right here is the first woman I've ever loved. And I dare any of you to lay a finger on her." He turned back around, his eyes landing on Lexis' with a death glare, indicating what was said to be more for him than anyone else.

Lexis looked down at Fayth's hands as they shook in fear. The lazy smile was back on his face as he sighed and looked back up at Charles, his eyes not nearly as deathly as they were before.

"Challenge accepted."
