"Why are you lying? You obviously know this Kai person."
"I...I..." I needed to think quickly before responding to Katsuki. "I was enjoying this moment with you," I said, which was true. I moved to try to get back into the hug we'd been sharing only a few seconds ago. "I didn't want to spoil it by talking about some guy." Also true.
He backed away slightly, holding me out at arm's length, his face serious.
"Some guy, huh?"
Oh, you know, just the leader of the entire criminal underground that you are currently training to defeat. Obviously I couldn't say that, so I nodded.
"Don't insult me by keeping secrets. Whatever it is, I can handle it. Out with it."
I sighed. He was right. If there was a good person to have in my corner, it was definitely him. But would he still be in my corner if he knew what I'd been up to? Would he understand why? Or would he just call me naive again? There was only one way to know...
"Katsuki, you're right. I need to tell you something. Something I should have told you awhile ago, but I didn't know how you would react."
His red eyes narrowed at me, but I couldn't read the expression on his face.
"Say it then."
I took a deep breath. "First I need you to know that I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I was worried about how you would feel, toward me, once you knew."
He pulled me back closer, tucking my head under his chin. "You know how I feel towards you. It hasn't changed since that first night when I tried to take you on a date."
I chuckled, remembering my pathetic attempt at trying to get information from him. "And we ended up just making out in my apartment."
"As soon as I realized that you weren't wearing any underwear that night, I knew you were a little freak. And I liked it. Still do. So tell me whatever the hell it is."
"Right. Okay. So. Here we go. Katsuki, I - "
Right then our classmates started streaming out of the main building, heading toward us.
"Let's go, man!" Kirishima said, slapping Katsuki on the back. "You missed the whole meeting, but I'll fill you in. You and I get to go against each other!"
I watched Kirishima pull him away with him as they followed our other classmates.
"This isn't finished," he called back to me over his shoulder as Kiri dragged him away.
"I know."
"And stay away from her, icy hot!" he shouted as Shoto appeared at my side.
"No."
Shoto turned to me instead. "We're supposed to go to the training area now," he said, taking my hand in his. "Walk with me?"
As if there was any question.
"You know that we're together, right?" Shoto said, squeezing my hand as we walked.
"Together?"
"Yes. You and me."
"Me and you? Shoto, uh...I like you a lot but I don't know..."
"I do. I saw the list while you were out here. We're paired up for this afternoon's training."
"Oh!" I said exhaling a sigh of relief. "Okay. What are we doing exactly? You know there's no way I can fight you, right? That's not really my thing."
Shoto glanced at me as we walked. "Might be fun to watch you try though."
I considered that.
"Maybe later?" he asked, a tiny smile on his face.
"Maybe if you let me beat you in whatever training we're doing."
He nodded. "Deal."
"Glad you could join us, Miss y/n," Aizawa said dryly as Shoto and I joined the group. "You, too, Todoroki." The stiff and formal tone of his voice hurt more than I had anticipated, and for a second I stopped walking, unsure how to feel.
Aizawa was always like this with me in front of other people, but now, knowing that I wouldn't get to sneak a kiss later, it was a little tougher to stomach.
Everyone else was already getting started, but since we were the last to show up, Aizawa came over to us personally. After our conversation earlier, and those kisses in the rain, it felt like torture to stand this close.
"Todoroki, y/n needs to practice healing, so when someone gets hurt, fill in for that person while they're with y/n," he told us. "There are basic first aid supplies in the nurse office inside. Todoroki, go grab the kit that's in there."
Shoto hesitated for just a moment, glancing back and forth at the two of us, before turning around and going back inside.
"It's taking every ounce of self-control I have to keep my hands off you right now," he muttered once Shoto was far enough away.
"That sounds tough. Does it hurt? Maybe you need first aid," I suggested playfully. "I hear there's an office inside I could use to tend to you."
Judging by the tense look on his face, I thought for a second that I might be able to break his resolve right then. But then no, Aizawa was back to business.
"You're impossible," he said.
"You know, if you split that word up, it becomes 'I'm Possible.'"
"Did you come up with that on your own?"
"Yep. Proud?"
He shook his head. "Look," he touched my shoulder to spin me around. "Here comes Todoroki. I'm going to try to not be jealous of these boys," he said as his hand strayed down and lingered, for just a second, on my lower back. "And you try to stop looking like you need to be fucked."
"No promises," I smirked.
Everyone got started and not even five minutes passed before Kaminari came hobbling over with an injury. Shoto and I had been sorting through the medical supplies, but he left to go take Kaminari's place while I dealt with this supposed injury.
"Y/n, I hurt my knee."
"Of course you did."
"It's not my fault that Ojiro's tail hurts when it hits you. Can you fix me?"
"Maybe. Lie down," I said pointing to the grass.
"How does this work?" he asked.
"Well, I have to put my hands on you."
"All right! Do I need to take my pants off?"
"Definitely not."
"Oh..." he said, disappointed.
"And then I summon up some kind of emotion and then there's a jolt and then like a snap then an oomf and it's done!"
"So you have no idea."
"Exactly."
I sat on the ground next to him as he rolled up his pants so I could see his knee. While Kaminari leaned back, I put my hands on his leg and felt around. From what I'd learned from first aid training, when I'd actually been paying attention at least, I could tell that it wasn't broken. He probably just sprained it.
"I don't feel anything," he said. "But, obviously, don't stop trying."
"Chill. I haven't done anything yet." I covered his knee with my hands and tried to massage a little bit. This had worked with Shigaraki that time I'd healed some of the spots he'd scratched on his neck so maybe it would work here, too.
It was so frustrating to not be able to do this on command. And it made me wonder if I'd ever be able to. So far I'd only healed people I'd been attracted to – Aizawa, Dabi, Shigaraki, Katsuki. Did I need to want them in order for this to work?
"Can you...um... can you maybe not... not rub like that," Kaminari squeaked, interrupting my thoughts. "At least not here, or not as high up on my leg because, like, I have to go back to training, and I don't want anyone to see my pants like this."
Oops. I stopped rubbing and just pressed on his knee only, alternating gentle pressure with firm.
As I worked, my mind drifted back to my earlier conversation with Katsuki. If I told Katsuki about Overhaul, he would want to know how I met him in the first place. Then I'd have to explain how I was kidnapped after that night on the roof and how Shinso was there.
My blood started to boil thinking about Shinso right now. Too bad I hadn't been paired with him so I could try to kick his ass.
I could tell Katsuki that Overhaul held me at gunpoint, which wasn't entirely untrue....
It was all so confusing. Could I tell Katsuki the truth and just leave a bunch of stuff out? Was it even still the truth at that point?
"Um, hello?"
Back to reality, I realized that I wasn't even touching Kaminari anymore. I was simply sitting in the grass staring off into space, completely absorbed in my dilemma.
"Sorry, Denki. I have a lot on my mind. I don't think this is going to work right now."
"It's okay. It was nice while it lasted anyway. Since I can't fight anymore, can I just hang with you here until this is over?"
"Fine with me."
My phone beeped and I checked my texts.
Dabi: Thinking about you. About what I would do to you if you were here.
Y/n: Elaborate please
Dabi: Like pressing my tongue against your clit until you throb into my mouth
I threw my phone into the grass and took a deep breath to get my heart to stop racing.
"You okay over there?" Kaminari asked, raising one eyebrow.
"Uh huh."
I heard my phone beep again so I picked it back up.
Dabi: Playing with you would be more fun than hanging out with the little psycho and the crusty asshole like I'm doing tonight
Y/n: You guys getting into trouble?
Dabi: Probably. They're dragging me somewhere.
Y/n: Drunk dial me later.
Dabi: My dick is so hard.
Dabi: What are you wearing
Dabi: Is it something I got you
Dabi: The least you can do is send me some nudes
Y/n: I'm sitting in a field with my class. I am not sending you any nudes right now.
Dabi: Then send some later.
Y/n: If you're a good boy
Dabi: I could be better if you were here
I chuckled and watched our classmates with Kaminari until finally the sun started to go down and Aizawa told everyone that we could go.
"When it gets dark," Kaminari said standing up and trying out his knee, "some of us are going to sneak into town to buy some booze. Want to come?"
His knee seemed to be fine now that he'd had a chance to rest it. I was starting to doubt that it was ever hurt in the first place.
"Sure," I said, looking around for Katsuki. I didn't see him. Had he already left?
"Awesome!"
"How do you plan on getting out of here without a car though? We can't exactly drive the big bus. And do you have a fake ID?"
"I have it all worked out. Don't you worry about it. I need to get a couple things and then we can go. I'll text you the details."
A few hours later I stood in the empty parking lot on the edge of the camp. The bus was still parked there, along with a handful of cars.
"Denki, where are you?" I whispered. He'd told me to meet him here, but I didn't see anyone around.
I heard a sound and turned to see a window rolling down on an expensive black car parked a few feet away. Mina grinned at me from the back seat, and I saw Shoto, of all people, sitting next to her.
I knew that car.
"Get in loser," Mina yelled with a smile. "We're going shopping."
That's it. We're all getting expelled.
"Denki. How the hell did you get Aizawa's keys?"
