I sighed as I watched my legs dangle over the roof of the building. I looked at my laptop that was sitting next to me on top of my schoolbag.
My mind wandered to yesterday.
Why does Harley want to know so much about my life?
"Nosy bitch," I muttered to myself before checking my watch. First period is gonna start in a few minutes and I wanted to get a drink before it starts. I looked at the news footage one more time before shutting my laptop and placing it in my bag. I swung the bag over my shoulder and opened the hatch that led to the storage closet.
"What the fuck?!" I cried out as Nick looked up at me with his eyes wide. "What are you doing here?" I hissed as I threw my bag down and he caught it with ease. "Just chilling," He shrugged as I climbed down and shut the hatch. His hands rested on my hips and he guided me down the ladder. "Just chilling? In the storage cupboard?" I repeated and he shrugged as I leaned on the far wall and attempted to stay away from him.
It's only been a year. I can't like anyone else.
But he has a girlfriend anyway. But I could have him if I wanted him.
"You don't even go here," I added and he started rummaging through my backpack. "There really is nothing interesting in there." I pointed out and he huffed. "You're boring." He said as he zipped the bag and handed it to me.
"And you're a stalker." I shot back as I opened the door. "I wanna learn more about you," He said as he followed me out. The halls were empty so I'm gonna assume that the bell already rang.
"Nick, please leave me alone," I said as I kept walking until I reached the staircase. "Why don't we go to the diner after school? Then maybe a movie?" He suggested and I stopped as I raised my eyebrow. "You're joking right?" I scoffed and he stuffed his hands in his jeans.
"I-" I started but stopped as I saw a figure behind him. "Nick?" Athena called as she stood in the hall but her face hardened as he moved to the side and saw me.
"I'll text you," I said to him before heading down the stairs. I walked into my first class and was handed a detention slip before sitting at the back of the class.
"So about the video-"
"Harley, seriously. Drop it." I stopped her.
"Why are you so defensive?" She questioned with an eyebrow raised. "I have nothing to hide," I muttered as I looked straight ahead. "Then why won't you tell me what happened on that trip?"
"Because Harley," I sighed deeply as I ran a hand through my hair.
"Some secrets are meant to stay a secret."

"So how are you planning to get info out of him?" Harley asked as we both peered through the cafeteria doors.
Nick came to visit again.
"I was kinda thinking we just wing it," I muttered as I scanned him. "We look hella stupid right now," Harley said and we both moved away from the door. "So we just go in and be casual," Harley said and I nodded as I dramatically opened both doors.
I forgot to tell her that I don't do casual.
People turned to face me from the noise of the doors ricocheting against the walls. I walked up to our table and seated myself on Ricky's lap. "Well hello there," He teased but I focused my full attention on Nick. "Khlo, you okay?" Athena asked awkwardly as I held my glare on Nick. "Do you even understand the word 'casual'?" Harley asked and I shrugged.
"So, Nick Lewis, if that is your real name," I began and he looked down at my shirt. "Stop staring at her," Harley chimed in and I immediately removed my elbows off the table. "Her button's undone," Nick said as he pointed to my chest and I cleared my throat before quickly rebuttoning my top.
"What are you doing?" Ricky whispered in my ear. "Interrogating," I hissed as he picked up a juice box. "Well you're doing a shit job," He mumbled.
"So how'd you two meet?" I asked as I gestured between Nick and Athena. "Before summer-" Athena began and I cut her off. "Oh, before summer? Did you guys not spend the summer together?" I asked and he looked at her before looking back at me. "No, I went on a road trip-" He began and I gasped.
"Aha!" I yelled as I stood up and Ricky groaned as I kicked his legs. "Luna Kendrick? Ringing any bells?" Harley asked and he laughed awkwardly. "You went on a trip with her didn't you?" I asked as I placed my palms on the table and leaned forward.
"He went on a road trip with his sister," Athena cut him off as she shot me a death glare. "I don't even know a Luna anyways," Nick muttered and Athena turned to face him. "You spoke to her today. I saw you," She said.
"Woahh, a cheater? That's unexpected," I commented. "Sit down," Athena ordered whilst still facing him. I felt myself falling back onto Ricky's lap and when I looked under the table, I saw green mist circling my legs.
That bitch...
"She was trying to talk to me. I didn't even catch her name," He said to Athena and she faced us again but you could tell on her face that she wasn't convinced. "So road trip with the sister. Where'd you guys go?" I asked and Athena glared at me again. "Oh, we just traveled around the East Coast," He said nonchalantly as he unlocked his phone.
"Were you at any of the attacks?" Harley asked and he shook his head. "Did you hear about them?" I questioned and he kept shaking his head as he began texting someone. "You've got to be shitting me, you're not even listening-" I began but my hand was covering my mouth.
Athena's eyes were green and she gave me a 'last warning' look. He looked up at me and Athena's eyes returned to normal as he smirked.
"Done talking already?" He asked and I rolled my eyes. "You got a lot of nerve lying to my face cause I know everything and I-"
I stood up and Ricky pulled me down in my seat. "Khlo, stop it," He said softly.
"This game of trivia has been fun but I gotta go," Nick said as he got up. He placed a soft kiss on the crown of Athena's head and Harley shot up. "Yeah, this was fun. But we gotta go and finish....dissecting my frog," She said with a nervous laugh as she yanked my arm.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming," I grumbled as I moved out of Ricky's lap and got up. "Dissecting a frog?" Chase teased as he appeared and sat down.
"Yeah, it's for biology," Harley said quickly and Nick raised his eyebrow as I glared at him. "We're onto you," I warned before Harley dragged me out of the cafeteria.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Don't you know 'casual'?" Harley hissed and I pushed my hair off my shoulder. "I personally don't see any other way we could've approached him without it being weird," I stated proudly as Harley's eyes widened.
She pushed herself onto me and Nick walked through the cafeteria doors. He looked in our direction, but completely ignored us as he headed towards the school entrance.
Harley moved away from me as he disappeared. "How did he not see us?" I asked as Harley smirked. "Just a simple invisibility trick," She said as she held out her palm and a spiral of purple lines danced out of her hand.
"That's so cool," I said as I peered closer and stuck my hand through the mist. My eyes widened as it disappeared and I moved my hands away from hers as it slowly reappeared. "I know right. I've been getting a lot better," She says as the purple mist diminished.
I haven't used my powers since that night. It's not cause I don't want to, I just haven't had a reason to.
"Stop. You're trying to distract me from what just happened," Harley said as she shook her head and I sighed. "I was kinda hoping you'd forget about that," I replied with a forced smile and she scoffed.
"It's weird the way he's always here though," She added and I rolled my eyes. "I swear to God he lives in this school," I grumbled. "You'd think he's coming to see someone else," Harley added and we both froze.
"You can access the CCTV cameras right?" I asked her and she gave me an incredulous look. "What? So cause I'm smart, you think I'm in every club considered 'geeky'?" She asked with an eyebrow raised.
"I really don't know what it is you do," I said truthfully and she scoffed and walked away from me. "I can get the door open if that's what you're asking," She said and my heels clicked against the floors as I jogged to catch up to her.

"What the hell did I miss?" Chase chuckled as he sat down and I placed my head in my hands. "I'm gonna kill them," I muttered. "Was it that bad?" Chase asked and Ricky scoffed. "I just don't get what they're trying to get out of him," I sighed.
I can't have one normal relationship in this life can I?
"Ohh, Harley told me about her asking him questions so she can see if he's linked to..." Chase started rambling but his voice trailed. "Linked with who?" I asked and he looked down at his meatball sub.
"Chase," I said slowly before glaring at him. "Well I'm gonna go," Ricky said as he got up and left. "It's nothing honestly," He chuckled nervously and I leaned over the table and towards him.
"Listen up pretty boy," I said as I slammed my hands on the table and he jumped slightly. "Your girlfriend-"
"She's not my girlfriend-"
"Your girlfriend," I repeated. "is messing up my relationship because of some sick, twisted attempt to find the truth on something that literally doesn't exist and is none of her business!" I exclaimed as I threw my hands in the air dramatically.
"First when she was snooping around Luna's life, it was amusing, but now, she won't leave my boyfriend alone," I glared.
"She still is snooping around Luna's life. Your boyfriend just happens to be connected to it somehow." He said with a shrug and I sat down. "Nick doesn't even know Luna. He told me." I said quietly.
"I think you should pay closer attention to what he's doing when he's not with you," Chase says quietly before getting up.
"She can't be wrong. It's Harley." He finished before leaving me at the table.
He's chatting a load of shit. Nick and Luna don't know each other.
I trust him.

"You came," Nick said as I approached him leaning against his car. We were in the busiest part of town, but there's not a lot of people here. "Just as long as you're paying," I said. I moved one of my french braids to the side as I walked past him and headed towards the movie theatre. "So, are you gonna pick or...?" I asked as I gestured to the movie displays. "Why don't we watch some horror?" He teased and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not gonna jump into your arms in fear." I said with a disinterested tone. He ended up picking some sappy rom-com and sitting through it was hell.
It was even worse when he did the whole 'yawn and stretch' routine that guys have become accustomed to that make them look like imbeciles.
"That was boring," He sighed as I slurped on my drink. "The food better be better than this," I said and he placed his arm over my shoulder. "Trust me, it will be," He said as he guided me down the street and into a desert parlour. We ordered our deserts and sat in a booth.
Everything about tonight reminded me of Carter.
But the night's nearly over. I can handle another hour or so of this.
"So tell me more about this Carter boy that you're so hung up on," He began and I stopped swirling the ice cream on top of my cookie dough. "I never told you his name." I said before looking up at him. "How do you know his name?" I asked him and he didn't respond for a while.
"You've been looking me up." I said as I moved to get up and he stopped me.
"I just wanted to know more about you. You're a very popular name in this town," He said as he leaned against the booth. "What makes you so different from others?" he asked as he leaned closer to me.
"I'm a very normal person, Nick," I responded as I took a bite of my cookie dough. It's free dessert, I might as well eat it.
"Glowing red eyes isn't normal," He countered and I sighed. "I don't know what you think you saw that day, but you're mistaken," I said lowly as I focused my attention on my plate.
"I used to know someone like that," Nick muttered and I paused. "What an ex?" I questioned as I swallowed. "Something like that," He mumbled.
The air shifted and our booth became very uncomfortable. "We're done," I said as I got up. I expected him to grab onto me and force me to stay but he let me walk out of the parlour.
The cold wind whipped past me and my side bangs flew slightly in my face. I looked to the left and peered closely at a figure standing on the edge of the road, it was clearly a girl. She looked familiar. I moved to walk towards her but felt someone else grab my attention.
"Hey sister," Beatrix teased and my eyes widened as I registered her presence. "Beatrix, what are you doing here" I questioned as I turned my head back in the direction of the figure. She was gone.
"Looking for my brother. You seen him?" She asked and I raised my eyebrow. "What do you do when you're not with him?" I asked curiously and she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Get off my case." She grumbled.
She's definitely bipolar.
"Your brother's in there." I said as I pointed to the parlour. "Ooo you stalking him?" She smirked and I scoffed. "I was just with him," I replied as I pulled out my phone. "What are you doing here?" Nick asked her as he approached us and she sighed.
"Dad took off with the trailer so I'm bunking with you," She said and he groaned. "Wait in the car." He ordered as he gave her his car keys and she walked off.
"Why do you care so much about my secrets?" I asked honestly and he leaned forward.
"You're Luna Kendrick. I have to know everything about you." He whispered.
I laughed awkwardly but he stared back at me with no emotion. "Why don't I drop you home?" He asked and I shook my head. "I can find my way home." I finished as I started dialing Ricky's number.
