"I've got a doctors appointment in 2 days, so I have to be back," I replied.

"Almost time for baby boujie to come on out," she chuckled.

I couldn't help but laugh at Miss Bruce because she was always calling me boujie.

"Miss Bruce, you're never gonna quit callin' me boujie, huh?" I asked teasingly.

"Neva'," she said with a smirk.

Derek seemed quieter than usual. "Baby, you okay?" I asked with concern.

"Y-yeah, I'm good. Look y'all, I'm gonna go ahead and walk grandma home. I'm calling it a night," Derek said, his voice a bit strained.

"You want me to come with you?" I offered.

"Nah, I'm straight, you enjoy yourself," he said, giving me several kisses.

"Okay, I'll be home soon. I love you," I said, savoring each kiss.

"I love you too. Y'all have a good night," he said, his voice filled with tenderness.

"Bye Derek," everyone said in unison.

"Everything okay between you and Lightskins matters?" Star asked, nosily.

"Star, why don't you ever mind your own business?" Simone retorted, taking a sip of her juice.

"Yeah, what Simone said!" I laughed. "Everything between us is good. With the baby coming and now Bo passing away, I think he's overwhelmed. I wish I could do more, but my baby is like nope! Already cock blockin'."

"Just be there for him. It's not always about sex," Cotton advised. "If he's talking, don't say anything, don't give any advice, just listen. Unless he asks for it."

"I know it's overwhelming, but Alex, are you okay?" Simone asked, her concern evident.

"I'm fine, Simone. Why do you ask?" I replied, trying to brush off any worries.

"Because I know when things bother you, you don't talk about it, you act like everything is normal," she said knowingly.

I sat there quietly, realizing she was right.

"Yeah, baby mama, we're all here for you and so is Derek. I'm pretty sure he's gonna marry you one day, y'all are a team," Star chimed in.

I nervously chuckled. "Yeah, one day. Look, let's go inside, I'm getting bit up."

"Yeah, I'm going home. I'll see y'all she-devils later," Miss Bruce declared, bidding her farewell.

Everybody dispersed, and Simone, Star, and I went into what used to be our old bedroom.

Several hours passed, and I woke up feeling uncomfortable. My baby was moving all over the place, and I couldn't sleep. Glancing at the digital clock by the bed, I saw it was 1:30 in the morning. I knew exactly what I needed—I needed Derek.

I managed to sneak out of Miss C's house and made my way back to Miss Ruby's. Derek was knocked out, snoring loud as hell. I reached into my duffel bag to grab my toiletries, then took a hot shower. After drying off, I put on my vanilla sugar lotion and slipped into my silk pajamas before climbing into bed. Derek's arms instantly wrapped around me.

"You couldn't sleep without daddy?" he asked, still half asleep.

"Nope, go back to sleep," I replied, planting a kiss on his lips before drifting off into slumber.
