Mia

"I'm glad you've decided to resume your therapy, Mia," Dr. Jones said. "It's a big step to admit that you need help again."

I nodded and gave him a small smile and he adjusted his glasses before holding up his notepad. "So you believe that Iris must've had some sort of spell over Cain for him to fall for her."

"Yes, there was a spell," I confirmed.

"Why do you believe there was a spell?" He asked. "Is it because you believe Iris isn't attractive, or because you believe Cain would never reject you?"

"Both," I admitted. "Cain has been pining for me for over four years. He wouldn't just suddenly stop so abruptly."

"What if it wasn't abrupt?" He asked. "Don't you believe it's possible he could've been losing feelings for you over some time? You did after all continuously choose another man over him."

"I just don't think that's realistic," I said.

"So you cut off her wings so the supposed spell would cease?"

"Yes."

"Okay Mia, I'm going to need you to listen to me for a few seconds. What I'm going to say may make you feel like you're losing grip of your reality and it may even disrupt any thought processes you've had since the day you hurt Iris," he said.

"What is it?" I asked nervously as I held my hair between my fingers.

"Fairies...are not capable of love spells."

"What?" I questioned.

"Fairies are only capable of magic like that through deals with powerful forces," he said.

"Maybe Lucifer," I offered.

"Lucifer has never been known to do love spells, and he's no longer the ruler of Hell."

"Maybe it was Queen," I said quickly as the touching of my hair became rougher. Dr. Jones looked at my hands before looking at me and he shook his head.

"Queen is your friend, remember? She wouldn't make her brother fall for another girl when she's been rooting for you," he said.

I quickly shook my head and looked around the room frantically. "Where did you get your degree? You're not very helpful."

"Mia, focus. Iris did nothing to Cain."

"Yes, she did," I argued. "She had to."

"No, Mia," he said. "She did nothing wrong at all. Cain just fell in love with her."

"No, that's not true." I shook my head. I remembered the moment Cain and I first met. He told me about how he instantly fell in love with me, and how there was nobody else for him. Iris was the one who was at fault here.

"It is. You've been stringing Cain along all these years, and he must've gotten tired," he said smoothly.

"I didn't string him along," I said. "He was where he wanted to be."

"And Jackson?" He asked. "Was he where he wanted to be? Having to stay at home as his girlfriend cheated on him every night?"

My head began spinning at his words and my head shook as I tried to look for other alternatives to what he was saying.

He's a liar.

"Did he want to witness you fall in love with another man and then have you suggest a polyamorous relationship?" He asked.

I held my hands over my ears and closed my eyes. I shook my head quickly and rocked myself back and forth to erase all of his words from my mind. "You're not real. You're a liar. Iris sent you, didn't she?!" I screamed.

"Mia, I'm very real," he spoke. "And you're having an episode right now. Calm down and listen to my voice, before you commit another crime you'll regret."

I opened my teary eyes slowly to see the therapist sitting in his chair and I sniffled as I looked around. He was really here. My mind somehow momentarily convinced me that he wasn't truly here and I was left stunned in my seat.

"Do you see how easily your mind can betray you?" He asked. I nodded slowly as tears fell down my cheek and he sighed. "We can help you, Mia. But you're going to need more than therapy."

He stood up and picked up a brochure next to his desk and passed it to me. I hesitantly looked at it and read "Forest Side Mental Retreat". It looked like some sort of hospital building, but there was a welcoming feeling to it. Maybe it was the ocean beside it, the water always seemed to calm me.

"We handle all types of mental conditions and help you understand why your mind makes the decisions that it does. It lasts three months. I highly urge you to consider going before you hurt anyone else," he said.

"When would I have to leave?" I questioned.

"It starts in two days," he said.

"What?! I would have to leave like...today."

"You wouldn't regret it, Mia. It's never too short notice to focus on your mental health," he said. "I just need you to decide if you're going or not so I can reserve your spot."

Should I go?

It seemed like a great idea, but I was afraid. Going to a mental hospital made it all feel more real. If I went, that meant admitting that there was something beyond jealousy wrong with me. Was I willing to destroy myself for a chance to heal my mind?...

"I'll go," I whispered. I could sense no one wanting me around anyway. Cleo was still my friend, but I hardly talked to anyone else. Queen herself was avoiding me. Maybe it was best to leave town for a while.

My phone vibrated on my lap and I sighed as I picked it up. My heart fluttered as I saw a text message from Jackson and I opened it.

Jackson🥰: I need to see you.

"I'll let the hospital know they should expect you, right?" Dr. Jones asked. I snapped my eyes back to him and nodded quickly.

"Yes, I'll take a flight tonight." With those words, the realization set in. Whatever Jackson wanted, it would also have to be my opportunity to say goodbye.

꧁꧂

I pulled into Jackson's driveway and exited the car. I looked around the small neighborhood I had called my second home for the past few years and I smiled. I would definitely miss this place.

With a refreshing breath, I walked towards the porch and walked up the stairs. As if he were expecting me, he opened the door and gave me a small smile. "Hey."

"Hey, Jackson," I said softly.

His eyes lingered on mine before he cleared his throat and opened the door wider. "Come in."

"I shouldn't," I admitted. "If I come in, I'm not sure if want to leave."

"Oh?"

"Why'd you want to see me?" I asked.

"I missed you," he said. "The house feels empty without you." His hand reached out for mine and I smiled before taking it into mine.

"I miss you too," I admitted. "I'm sorry for how everything went down the other day. I hope you know that I do truly love you, Jackson. You're my first true love."

"As you are mine, Mia," he said as he squeezed my hand. "Why does this feel like a goodbye."

"It's not," I shook my head. "At least not forever. I'll be back one day soon. Hopefully, you'll still be here? I know I don't have a right to ask you to—"

"I'll wait for you," he urged me.

I nodded quickly and my eyes began to water as I saw our entire relationship in his eyes. How crazy was it that I was seeing the ways that I hurt him as I was leaving? He was the only person who's never left my side, and I took advantage of that.

"I love you," I cried softly.

He smiled softly and his eyes watered as he moved towards me. "I love you," he whispered. My body heated as he got closer to me and he moved a hair behind my ear. He closed the distance between our lips with a kiss and my tears fell as I kissed him for what felt like the last time.

This kiss felt different than our previous ones. I couldn't exactly pinpoint how, but it felt different. I just chalked up to our bittersweet goodbye and reveled in the feel of his soft lips.

His hand tangled into my hair when a sudden sharp pain tugged at my head. I winced and Jackson's eyes widened as he saw my hand raise to my head. "Ouch!"

"Sorry," he said. "My ring caught. Are you alright?"

"I'm okay," I said with a small smile. "I should go."

He pulled me against his chest and kissed the top of my head and I inhaled his soothing scent. "Goodbye, Mia."

"Bye, Jackson."

Abel

I watched painfully as Mia pulled away from me and walked to her car. I didn't ask why or where she was leaving, but it seemed important. It was hard to not offer to go with her, but as I remembered everything she put me through, the pain dulled.

I waved as she pulled out of the driveway, and when she was gone, my smile dropped and I walked back into my house. I closed the door behind me and sighed as I walked deeper into my home.

"You guys can come out now, she's gone," I spoke.

The door to the closet door in the hallway slowly opened and Cain and Iris exited it. "Did you get it?" Cain questioned hopefully.

"Yup," I said as I held up the fine hairs that I had pulled from Mia's scalp. Cain reached out to take it from me, but I stepped back with a raised brow. "Are you still not going to tell me why you need it?"

"I can't," Cain said.

"Why?"

"It's better you're left in the dark. You may not agree with what we're doing," he said nervously as he looked at Iris.

"Fine," I sighed. "Here."

"Thank you." Cain carefully took the hair from my fingers and placed it into the ziplock bag that Iris was holding.

"You're welcome," I said as I shoved my hands into my pocket.

After Cain put the items in the bag, he rubbed the back of his neck and turned to me nervously. "Hey, if you're not busy one of these days, maybe we can get a drink or whatever..."

"That sounds nice," I agreed with a smile. I didn't know what caused Cain to suddenly be so different around me, but I didn't question it. I've been wanting a relationship with my brother for centuries.

"Okay, I'll text you." Iris smiled brightly up at him and Cain shot her a look before they both walked towards the door.

"Bye Abel," Iris said. I waved at her in response and they resumed their walking.

"Wait," I called out before they left the house.

"Yeah?" Cain said.

"Don't hurt her too much."

"What?" Cain asked.

"Mia. Whatever you're planning, don't hurt her too much."
