In a cop car going down the open road during the day time, a policeman is behind the wheel as he drives. The policeman is an old white man with a heavy southern accent and very little hair. He adjusts his rear-view mirror to look in the backseat where an african-american man named Lee is handcuffed. Still in the clothes he was in after he'd committed the crime that landed him here.

Policeman: Well, I reckon you didn't do it, then.

Lee looks up at the rearview mirror and into the eyes of the policeman.

Lee: Why do you say that?

Policeman: Y'know, I've driven a buncha fellas down to this prison. Lord knows how many. Usually is 'bout now I get the "I didn't do it."

Lee turns his head a little and curiously asks him a question.

Lee: Every time?

Policeman: Every time.

As they drive down the road, the cop car's radio goes off. The dispatch telling all nearby cars to keep an out for something but it's ignored by the policeman as Lee continues to stare into the rear-view mirror. They pass multiple different colored trucks and cars as they continue on, not a care in the policeman's mind.

Policeman: I followed your case a little bit, you being a Macon boy and all.

Lee: What do you think?

The policeman shrugs.

Policeman: I'm just glad I chose law and not order. A big, messy trial like that.

Lee looks out the window as another police car speeds past in the opposite direction with its sirens on. The whole time Lee thinks about everything that had happened over the last week, how his life turned upside down after one big mistake.

Policeman: Even if you was innocent, a lot of what happened can't ever be undone.

The radio goes off again, but like before it's ignored as Lee looks back into the rearview mirror.

Policeman: I got a nephew up at UGA, you teach there long?

Lee: Going on my sixth year.

Policeman: You meet your wife in Athens?

Lee looks troubled and turns his face away, looking out the window like before.

Policeman: You wanna know how I see it?

Several more police cars pass by with their sirens on, along with a SWAT truck, all of them driving in the opposite direction to some big scene. Lee acknowledges the policeman and speaks to him in a low tone.

Lee: Sure.

The policeman opens his mouth, about to speak, but notices Lee glaring at him and stays silent for a moment.

Policeman: Regardless, could be you just married the wrong woman.

Lee wants to say something back to the policeman, but instead he holds tongue and grunts dismissively. He's angry sure, but he doesn't want to be in more hot water than he's already in.

Once more the radio turns on and Lee looks at it as a helicopter flies overhead, and like before the cop ignores it but this time Lee doesn't.

Policeman: You'll have to learn to stop worrying about things you can't control.

The helicopter flies past the policeman's car and the radio speaks up, telling all available units about the riots that are happening at the moment. They need help as they're getting extremely overwhelmed by all the people. As the radio turns off, a helicopter, two SWAT trucks, and several police cars pass by.
