Without anyone else but Jace, I went to his room in a hurry. He locked the door, and thankfully, he had several locks like Alex. "We'll have to do this quickly, or else it'll be too suspicious," he informed. "Do what exactly?" I stammered. "Ah, for God's sake, you're wearing a jumper!" he sighed stressfully. "Obviously?" I frowned confusedly. "Take this, and change as quick as you can," he said, throwing some random black t-shirt at me. I fiddled with the t-shirt due to the panic that had arisen in me all of a sudden. Jace was fiddling with something himself, and when I realised what it was, I staggered backwards, expecting to pass out at any minute. "Try not to," he said as though he'd read my thoughts. Looking back at him, I prepared to sound confident, which I somewhat succeeded at. "I hate needles, but fine. I'll try not to, Jace."

I had shrieked unintentionally at some point, but not too loudly, thankfully. The shriek had caught me by surprise even, and so I'd left myself speechless for some minutes. "What was this for?" I asked, clearing my throat as I was finally able to get a word out. "Just walk and go along with it," he answered vaguely. I looked up at him with widened eyes but was quick to look back forward once I realised who was standing before us. "It needs to pass through the heart and respiratory system before the oxygenated blood is sent to the brain," Jace said. Vera nodded like what he said was common talk for them. "Right, what the hell are we talking about?" I questioned. "Don't worry, this wasn't impulsive even though it might have seemed like it," Jace said, still avoiding my darn question.

-Dane's point of view-

Hayden had allowed Eugene and I to finally meet Nikkie again. It was apparent to us that she was relieved to have Eugene back, but at the same time, we could sense that something was bothering her deeply. "What's on your mind?" Eugene asked worriedly. Nikkie looked away briefly, her sight landing on me accidentally. Followed by a sigh, she said something so faintly that it couldn't be heard by anyone but her. "I just-" Nikkie started, stopping herself quickly. "Ah, my dearest little sister overheard Hayden and me talking and thereby found out that she's nothing but bait," Adeline said suddenly. "Wha-" Eugene started, frowning intensely. "Oh, Nikkie here is a weakening person for Hayden's sister, but she's not Hayden's weakening person. No, no, we fooled Jace and the others pretty well there," Adeline explained coldly. "Then who the hell is Hayden's weakening person?" I asked impatiently. "A person who will never die at Alex's feet, I can guarantee you that. You simply aren't trusted here, guys," she said, snickering mischievously. "Speak of trust issues," Eugene scoffed softly. "Yes, trust issues indeed, Moonchild. We have all rights to doubt the two of you though."

Adeline's answer had left Eugene looking fairly absent as though he was unsure whether he should continue the discussion or not. However, Adeline being Adeline, made the decision for him. "I'm sure that if you were Hayden, you wouldn't trust a walking mystery either, right?" she stated, raising her eyebrows. "I don't understand the reason for this mistrust, actually," Eugene answered shortly. "Oh, please. You've been a vampire for... what? One or two years? You're practically a 'newborn' still, which means you're supposed to be inexperienced and unskillful, still, somehow you're not. You're present in countless discussions, yet you barely speak a word. The moon is connected with mystery, and it can come across as hella shady, which is exactly what you do. If you still can't see everyone's point, then-" she blurted out, stopping suddenly. "You lack trust in me because of my demeanour? I choose to behave this way as I've seen what happens to a lot of the ones who speak up. You're supposed to be kind at heart and openminded, but where the hell are those traits in you? Tell me, what makes you fit in here more than me? Your strong passion for getting back at Alex? Is that it?" Eugene interrupted, sounding frustrated with Adeline's statements.

Adeline, afraid to say something that could be used against her, spent time thinking of an answer. "People in here know my story, my background. We don't know crap about yours, Eugene. Yes, I might be driven by a passion, but that's not all there is to me." "Silence and mystery aren't all there is to me either. Just because I won't engage in sentimental storytellings with a crowd of people doesn't mean I have bad motives. Your accusations are subjective and based on one person's conception. That one person laid the basis for an echo chamber, hence why countless people now conceive me the exact same way you do, Adeline." Huh, seems like her thought-out answer was a waste of time. "You can argue all you want, but the nickname's stuck to you now, and it will remain that way forever," she scoffed rudely. "Well, one common definition for 'Moonchild' is a person born under the star sign cancer. I'm that, and I will always be that, indeed," Eugene answered, shrugging his shoulders. Adeline opened her mouth to speak but was met by Eugene's apathetic look which caused her to remain quiet. He left the room shortly after, and thereby her chances of speaking were gone.
