Our conversation went on, without any interesting topics being discussed. There was something I found strange though, which was the fact that Dane seemed considerably interested in Alex. Several times he discreetly asked questions that somewhat had something to do with Alex. I'm not sure whether he's just jealous or curious, but I found it quite odd.

"Is he okay with you meeting a guy?" Dane asked, seemingly hesitant. "You're a friend, of course, he's okay with that." Dane nodded and fiddled with the straw in his drink as if he was distracting himself. "So, how's your family?" I asked as an attempt to avoid awkward silence. "It's big, and everyone seems to be busy at all times, so it's quite lonely." "Sure sounds like it yeah." "I shouldn't be wearing this," he said. His fingers moved to the ring that looked like Alex's, grazing over it. "Why not?" I asked curiously. "It belongs to my brother, but I don't want him to have it." I didn't get to ask him why. Apparently, he saw my confused facial expression and explained before I asked. "I don't want him to have the power to fight a certain person, a certain family," he practically muttered. "Fight?" I repeated. "I drifted into a topic that I cannot share with you, I'm sorry, Valerie."

Dane had his weird moments, but so must I have, therefore I tried to ignore it and let the night go on. "I'll be right back, I just have to fix something," he informed. "Yeah, sure," I replied, smiling slightly. He turned around and headed for some room, and that's when I saw something drop from his pocket. The light coloured key with a small owl fell right to the ground with a small thud. Dane didn't seem to notice, and here I sat, staring directly at the key I'd lost yesterday. I swallowed oddly at the sight of it before I carefully moved towards it. I probably looked like his stalker when I bent down to pick it up in the slowest tempo ever. I wasn't prepared for a hand to reach down and grab it before me, so I jumped and gasped loudly. When I looked up, I saw Dane standing over me with the key in his hand: "We need to talk, Valerie."
