After going through security, we found a place to sit and wait for our flight. However, I didn't get the chance to talk to Alex privately. He had to go check something with the others, leaving me with Jace. His normal halfway smirk spread across his face, almost showing his dimples at one point. He was cracking his fingers, making sure he had eye contact with me while doing it. His tight black jeans had been ripped from all he'd been through lately, but weirdly enough, it looked nice. "Studying my outfit, huh?" he cleared his throat, leaning forward. His elbows rested on his knees and his hands were now folded. "What's that scratch on your hand? I thought vampires didn't get scratches like that?" I frowned, studying his small wound. He slightly tilted his head to the side, looking a bit angered. "Would you mind whispering when you're talking about me being a bloodsucking creature amongst humans?" he answered angrily. I swallowed oddly and leaned back carefully. "Let's just say Xavier's cat Leo doesn't like me very much," he explained. "But he's just a cat?" I pointed out. "Whatever, you wouldn't understand," Jace scoffed.

"Why do you hate me so much, Jace?" I asked curiously, breaking the silence. "I'm not sure if you've understood the whole evil vampire thing, Valerie. I'm not known for liking people, I never have. And I certainly don't like reckless people who jump to conclusions the way you do. Oh, and I swear to God, if you interfere with my work regarding Alex, it won't end well for you." "Interfere with your work?" I repeated hesitatingly, unsure whether I wanted an explanation or not. He moved his head higher, staring intensely at me. "I should've been in Alex's place, but since I was declined I'm going to make sure Alex will do a goddamn good job. I know that deep down you want for Alex to be good, to love you like a normal boyfriend, but he won't, he never will," Jace clarified. "How are you so sure about that?" I asked skeptically. "Because I will make sure of it. I won't let you change him into something he's not." "What if that's what you're doing though, Jace," I suggested. He sat up properly, letting out a frustrated sigh: "Well, there's the difference between the two of us. Alex took my spot, he didn't take yours. I don't care if he suddenly had a change of mind, he will never be good. End of discussion."

When Alex returned, I was very angered by Jace's words, but I didn't want Alex to notice that. Alex has been good to everyone I've known for all the years we've been together. He has always been polite, and a person willing to help others. "You okay?" I asked him. He straightened his boarding card and cleared his throat, then he looked down at me. "Yeah, I'm alright," he slightly smiled. "You know, this flight might be a perfect time for you to start telling me about yourself, Alex," I said, hoping he'd react positively. He cast a glance at the boarding time remaining, almost as if he hadn't heard me. Jace was glaring at me, clearly, he'd heard me. "If that's what you want, I will do it," Alex said. "You serious?" I stammered. He snickered, nodding unhesitatingly. Jace was glowering at me, showing clear signs of his anger towards my curiousness. Xavier whispered something to Jace and turned him away from me.

Alex and I sat way back in the airplane while Xavier, Jace, and Zane were seated elsewhere. We'd found our seats quickly to avoid all the clumsy walking down the narrow aisle filled with passengers.

Alex's middle finger was tracing down the upside of my hand, going in a circular motion. "You already know the basics about me. My full name's Alexander Caizar and I was raised in England. However, my childhood wasn't close to what you would consider normal. I lived with many other vampires just as miserable and confused as I was. There was one boy standing out from the rest though. One person who always caused trouble, repeatedly breaking rules and testing the limits. His name was Jayden Dizary, he was one year older than I was. I remember looking up to his braveness all the time because I could never even dream of doing the things he did. Anyway, one day I came to figure out that this Jayden was actually my cousin. He didn't know of my existence before he was told who I was, but after that, all his attention moved to me. He literally spent all this time telling me how to be as rebellious as him, but it took years for me to dare to try anything," Alex told me. "Go on, I'm curious to how Jayden affected you," I said. "Well, I went from being obedient and loyal to a shit kid like him. He introduced me to human blood, making me addicted and not, to say the least, reliant on it," he continued. "Oh? But why did you agree to it if you knew it was wrong?" I asked. "I was tired of being bossed around. There were very strict rules there, and I'm sure you understand that evil vampires don't treat children any different from adults," he answered. "I see. What happened next then?" I questioned. "Jayden's parents and my parents started arguing too much for us to stay. Therefore, we all faced a major split between the Dizarys and the Caizars. Parts of my family, quite a few of my relatives, and some of the Dizary kindred moved to America. I like it better here in America, thankfully. Here I don't get bad memories rushing through my mind each time I go home like I did in England," he answered. The stewardess suddenly spoke to us, interrupting our conversation. She smiled widely at Alex and me, asking if we'd like some refreshments. "No," I answered quickly. "No, thank you," Alex answered politely. She nodded, smiling before she continued her walk down the aisle of the airplane.

We made sure that the stewardess wouldn't return to double check anything before continuing. "How old were you when you moved here?" I asked. "Is this an interview now?" he chuckled. "No, no, I'm just very curious," I assured him. "I was fifteen, meaning Jayden was sixteen. It was three years before I met you," he told me. "Wow, you had only lived here for three years when we first met?" I stuttered. "Yup," he nodded. "The things I don't know," I mumbled to myself. "Yeah, there's a lot," Alex exhaled. "You heard me?" I frowned. He slightly narrowed his eyebrows at me, which helped me remember that his hearing was way better than mine. "So, how did you resist, you know, feeding on me?" I asked hesitatingly. "Jayden told me not to. He said that if I fed on you, he'd kill me," Alex answered. "But why? He was evil as well, wasn't he?" I questioned. "Yeah, but he knew that it could kill me as well." "Right, you die if I die," I remembered. "Yes, it's a stupid concept," Alex sighed, shaking his head. "Concept?" I repeated. "Many vampires are born with a person who makes them vulnerable. Possible leaders are determined to have a weakening person. By that, I mean a person who could be used to kill a leader, like you. Jayden had one too, but he achieved his goal," he answered. "I'm that person to you, right? Doesn't that mean that you've succeeded in achieving your goal as well?" I asked, a bit confused by what he said. "No, I haven't succeeded yet, Valerie."
