My regret and panic kicked in the more I watched Jace's unconscious body. In hindsight, I realized I probably shouldn't have done it, but there was no going back. His sister would be back and he would wake up, it was just a matter of time.

With a sickening feeling in my stomach, I had to try my best to walk confidently back to Alex. I received glares as usual, but this time I glared back at them to not look suspicious of anything. However, since most vampires seemed to be confused by what was going on, I was left alone. I even made it up to the third floor without anyone questioning it or stopping me.

Alex hadn't returned to his room yet, which caused me to have to look through other rooms in order to find him. I didn't get access to most of the rooms though, they were locked and soundproof. It wasn't before I found an open, dark door that I could enter a room.

I could only see his back, but I knew it was him. His neck was relaxed so that his head slightly hung backwards. The room was quite dark, but I could see the matte black coffin that was in front of him. The girl I had seen in the picture earlier today was laying in it, Alex's sister. Her complexion had gone completely white and her skin colder. The long hair of hers was separated at the back, laying over each of her shoulders. Alex's hand carefully ran down her cheek as he shook his head slightly.

"I know what they've done now," he said suddenly. I kept quiet, unsure of what to say. "They were brutal this time. Zane wasn't, as I thought, killed abruptly. I know for sure now that Hayden let him die slowly by starvation, which caused my sister to suffer for days before dying," Alex said through gritted teeth. I swallowed oddly, feeling my stomach drop. "She came here today, meaning my brother isn't far away," he told me. "He's coming here?" I asked hesitatingly. "Unfortunately," he nodded. Unfortunately? What's that supposed to mean? "My brother is needed here now. Hayden has made his point, it's about damn time I make mine," he said.
