I dunno. I haven't written anything about Southie and Jersey in a bit. And the sudden motivation hit-
South Carolina slumped back in his bed while NJ slept on the couch in the corner of the room (It was added so Southie could call the northern state whenever he needed). It was the middle of the night and he was restless, again. However, this time, he had a different reason for his inability to sleep. Southie's mind was racing, and normally the topic was if his family was alright. But tonight, someone else was on his mind.
He couldn't figure out how he had grown so... attached to New Jersey lately. Seeing any other state even go near him made his blood boil, this time it wasn't due to an actual fire. He wasn't too fond of this new feeling. It was a mixture of weird yet warm. Whenever NJ even laid a hand on him his heart would pound in his chest and his face would grow hotter than usual. The Southern state needed some sort of explanation.
New Jersey was caring for him, even if it was forced he could have just protested till DC picked another state to look after him. But, he didn't. Why? What was so special about him that kept the man around? South Carolina sighed quietly and his eyes slowly drifted to the snoozing New Jersey. Southie smiled. He looked so peaceful. Wrapped as if he were in a cocoon in that blanket. South Carolina hoisted his legs off the bed and very carefully made his way to the other.
When he did arrive he noticed the pissed-off expression the other had on his face; nothing too out of the ordinary there. He could also hear him mumble something but he couldn't make out what he said. Southie slowly began to rub little circles on his back, earning a satisfied groan from the sleeping state that nearly made him jump. Was he awake? Fuck this would be quite the thing to explain if he was.
New Jersey didn't seem to move, nor did he snore so Southie couldn't really tell if he was asleep or not. But he seemed to be enjoying this, so he continued. "Fuck you and listen to me..." Mumbled the northeastern.
The other man giggled, "God, even your voice was as cute as your face." He whispered, not entirely realizing what he said. Until a second later that is, South Carolina's eyes widened. "Fuck! Did I say that out loud?!" He took his hands off him quickly and scurried to bed. Now he knew what this feeling was, love.
But he couldn't love New Jersey, he's a northerner. A Yankee! What would the south think of him? What would the north think of him? What if he gets thrown out of the south? New Jersey groaned quietly and awoke from the lack of the oh so random touch he felt earlier. South Carolina heard him hop off his couch and stretch. Shit, why did he have to wake up now?
Jersey yawned and looked around, then Southie's panicked eyes met his. "Fuck, you can't sleep or something? Nightmare? Why do you look like you just saw New York?" He laughed and walked over to him. "But I must ask, are you ok? Actually?" He finished, placing his hand on South Carolina's and keeping it in a gentle yet firm grip.
Southie stared at the hand being held by the other panicking even more. What would you even call this? Freaking out because another man he likes is touching him? Male panicking? He didn't know and was too scared to come up with something for it at the moment. "I, uh. Am completely fine!" He lied, his entire body was burning all over again. But at least this time it wasn't painful. And thank God it was dark so Jersey wouldn't be able to see how red his face must be.
The northern state looked at him questionably. "Are you sure? I can get you some soup or milk if you need it."
South Carolina slowly shook his head. "No! No! Everything is fine!" He stated, showing a pretty unconvincing smile. Jersey wouldn't push him if he wasn't ready to talk about anything tho, that's Ohio's job.
"Alright, I'm going to go fetch some milk. Need anything?" The smaller state let go of his hand, causing Southie to frown a little. His body lost the little cold it had left.
"Ah. No thank you, I'm alright." New Jersey nodded and turned to leave. Southie watched him, this whole "love" thing sucked. He wanted him to touch him like that again. He wanted to protect him... The Southern state bit his lip. He wanted to show him how good of a boyfriend he could be.
He's heard firsthand some of the self-deprecating things New Jersey has said about himself. Which only made him want to show him how great he really is, how loved he is. But he couldn't bring himself to just kiss him. What if he hated him afterwards? He hasn't had a kiss in years so, what if Jersey hates it?
What if Jersey leaves him for another pretty woman if they do become a couple? South's face morphed into a furious expression. The thought of the northeastern state lovingly touching another the way South Carolina wanted to do to him made him sick. But if it was what he desired he would have to suck it up in a sense and move on. His heart ached for another touch. Oh god, he was in deep, wasn't he?
The idea of making New Jersey feel even more loved than he made him feel made him grin. Oh love, maybe this wasn't so bad? Maybe if he kept all this to himself, one day it will all just die out eventually. And he could be friends with Jersey instead of anything else.
Yeah.
