Marianne and (Y/N) had been dating for a couple of years now. They were very close to each other and loved each other very much. This was it. (Y/N) it the right time to propose to Marianne and make it official.
He was a little unsure at first. Maybe asking Marianne's hand in marriage wasn't that good of an idea- He just wasn't sure, so he met up with Hilda at lunch to talk to her about it and ask for an honest opinion and some advice. She was Marianne's best friend. Surely she knew something that could be of use for him.

"Oh. My. God! (Y/N)! You're being serious, aren't you? You are! I can see it! Oh, this is amazing! You don't know how happy I am for you! I knew this would happen sooner or later! You two are just so cute together!" Hilda was so excited at the news that she went on and on, while (Y/N) awkwardly sat there, simply relieved to know that he had Hilda's approval. She was Marianne's best friend, after all.
"So... About the proposal then... How do you think I should proceed?"
Hilda then stopped jumping around, lost in thought, "How you should proceed? That's a weighty question for someone like me, you know..."
"I know, but you're her best friend. Surely you know what she'd like."
"Hm..." Hilda's face lit up, "Oh! I think I've got it! Marianne loves the beach. You should propose to her there! But don't take her swimming or anything, she doesn't like wearing swimsuits and swimming isn't really her thing... Take her on a nice walk by the seashore! She'll love that."
"You're sure...?"
"Trust me on this. It's a simple yet beautiful and peaceful activity... That's Marianne, for you."
(Y/N) seamed a little skeptical at first, but he soon realized that Hilda was right.
"You're probably right. We'll take a walk by the beach and I'll propose to her there."
"Oh! And do it at sunset. Most people leave before then and the scenery will be beautiful too!"
(Y/N) smiled, nodding, "Smart. I'll do just that. Thanks a lot, Hilda. I think I finally have an idea of what I'll do. All this proposal thing is so confusing and new to me. Luckily, you're here."
"No need to thank me. It's an honor to plan your proposal. Honestly, I just knew this would happen, so I just planned ahead."
The man chuckled, "You're really a genius when you want to, Hilda,"

(Y/N) did as Hilda told him to. He invited Marianne over at the beach, around sunset, when people were scarce on the beach. All of the anticipation that lead to this moment made him nervous.
Marianne came soon enough, dressed in a simple yet beautiful attire. She looked lovely.
"You look very nice, Marianne," he said, smiling.
"Thank you..." She smiled back.
"We should get going then. The night's probably going to come soon."
"Alright... I'll follow your lead..."
Marianne and (Y/N) began to walk alongside the seashore, holding hands. They gazed out at the sea- Well, Marianne was at least. (Y/N) was too nervous overthinking when he should be proposing. He didn't want to do it in the dark. If he didn't act quick enough, then it would all be over.
"The beach is beautiful at sunset..." Marianne commented.
"Y-Yeah, it really is..."
The shakiness of the man's voice caught her off guard. She turned to him, a little concerned.
"(Y/N), is everything alright?"
"What? Everything is completely fine! Lets just keep walking..."
"(Y/N), are you sure?"
"Positive!" His face went pale, "W-Why wouldn't I be?"
"We can head back if you want us to. You look pale. We should do this another day if you're too tired-"
Marianne was about to head back until (Y/N) finally got on his knee and took out the ring- This should make her stay, he told himself. It was now or never.
He did it all so fast and so thoughtlessly, that when he noticed Marianne looking back at him with wide eyes and a blush on her face, (Y/N) began to regret everything.
"(Y/N)...? A-Are you... Is this-"
Well, there was no turning back now...
"Y-Yeah... I've been wanting to do this for a while... I... huh- I'm so sorry- I wanted this to turn out just right, but I got so nervous that I couldn't find myself to enjoy it all... I'm so stupid- I'm sorry, really," he awkwardly chuckled, "I... I had a whole speech prepared and everything but... I-I can't even remember how it starts? Marianne, I-"
"I do."
(Y/N)'s face became even more pale. Everything was happening so fast that it took him a while to comprehend what was going on, "I'm sorry- What?"
Marianne got on her knees in the sand and held onto his wrists, smiling.
"I-I said I do..."
(Y/N) didn't say anything.
It was her turn to become pale.
"Y-You were about to propose to me, were you? I'm so sorry- I... I misunderstood everything. Forget I said anything, I beg of you..."
She was about to get up but (Y/N) embraced her. Marianne stayed, embracing him back.
"I-I love you so much... I'm so glad you said yes!"
"Oh, thank the Goddess... I-I thought I had it all wrong..."
(Y/N) chuckled, "No, you didn't. You got it right. I love you, Marianne..."
"I love you too. So much. I-I never thought this would actually happen... It all seems so surreal."
Marianne began to tear up, when soon sobs erupted, from both parties- Tears of happiness overflowed, as they stood there interlaced.
They were both two blushing and sobbing fools, on their knees, holding each other in a tight embrace, on the beach.
"I... I must say, now that I've proposed, I don't know what I'm supposed to do now. You said yes. We're happy, but what comes next? Are we supposed to head back, stay here...?"
It was all so new to him, and to her too.
"I-I'm not sure," Marianne glanced back at the sunset. It wasn't dark out just yet.
"How about we sit down and look at the sunset for a little bit? Before it gets dark. It's so beautiful..."
The fiancés sat down on the sand, hands intertwined, as they glanced at the sun's reflection in the sea. It was so beautiful. The colors, everything.
The two of them smiled, as they faced the sunset, dreaming of the future they would share soon enough as husband and wife.
