Gardenia is a genus of flowering plants in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, Madagascar, and the Pacific Islands. The genus was named by Carl Linnaeus and John Ellis after Dr. Alexander Garden, a Scottish-born American naturalist.

One of the most fragrant wand woods in the world, Gardenia tends to add an elegant touch to wands not otherwise prone to it. A small decorative loop of Gardenia wood on a wand can turn a wand otherwise prone to blunt force into one of forceful elegance or turn a lively and somewhat quirky wand into a well-behaved one with something of a sense of humor. Likewise, wands with Gardenia detailing tend to appreciate those wizards who are somewhat restrained. This wand usually chooses women more than men. While casting a spell, it emits a delightful smell.
