Syringa vulgaris is a species of flowering plant in the olive family Oleaceae, native to the Balkan Peninsula, where it grows on rocky hills. Grown for its scented pink flowers in spring, this large shrub or small tree is widely cultivated and has been naturalized in parts of Europe and North America. It is not regarded as an aggressive species, found in the wild in widely scattered sites, usually in the vicinity of past or present human habitations.

Popular in Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and other countries bordering the Mediterranean, lilac wands are among the most fragrant and charming. Their owners are detail-oriented, analytical, and innocent folk. A bit dense at times, they can miss the obvious or simplest answers as they can overfocus on one detail for far too long of a time. Their ability to concentrate deeply should not be underestimated. They are capable of performing complex spells and rituals for longer than the vast majority of witches and wizards.

They can be a bit gullible, as they are trusting of people in general. On the other hand, they are also loving and may fall in love easily and many times over. Multiple marriages may be in their future too. These witches and wizards also have many friends and acquaintances. Physically, these folks are tougher than they seem and have a high pain tolerance. They maintain youthful energy and appearance well into old age. This wood has talent in magic to do with rebirth, carving, tethering, death, soul-based magics, and ephemerality. Deep blue and pastel purple diamonds shine out from this wand when it is performing magic. These diamonds' fragrance is of lilac blossoms and petrichor. Lilac wands are at their most potent in April and May. Many lilac wand owners are friendly with the owners of reed wands. It is common that if one sibling has a lilac wand, another will have an olive.
