Mahogany is a straight-grained, reddish-brown timber of three tropical hardwood species of the genus Swietenia, indigenous to the Americas and part of the pantropical chinaberry family, Meliaceae.

Mahogany wood is in high demand for its beautiful appearance, stability, and workability. Magically, mahogany wands are quick and easy casters. They favor bold and lively masters who tend to have big hearts. Mahogany wands readily adapt to any magical discipline and have acquired a reputation as generalist wands.

Mahogany wand owners are charismatic, energetic, and possess much curiosity. They have above-average magical cores and great endurance. They like to be intellectually stimulated and become bored very quickly. The lion's share of their energy goes towards what interests them, and they neglect that which does not. There is a regal air to their mannerisms and a devil-may-care attitude in their interactions with others. They care little for others' opinions, but also care too much about the opinions of those they admire or are close to them.

Most subjects and knowledge comes easily to them, and they can come up with innovative solutions incredibly fast. Though they can be sweet and protective of their loved ones, these witches and wizards are also jealous and vengeful to those they dislike. Many times, their dislike is arbitrary or due to jealousy. They can be extremely possessive and controlling at their worst. They are used to getting their way and can become completely demoralized when they don't. Or they exact harsh vengeance against the source of the obstacle or impediment.

Their tastes are often expensive or highly specialized. Often this wand wood indicates musical talent, especially playing the guitar or other string instruments. Their most immediately noticeable feature is their hair. There is talent at magic to do with protection, stasis, strength, rejection, and control. It is good at detecting parasitic magic, preventing spiritual or ghostly possession, and exorcism. There may be talent at communicating and dealing with nymphs (including dryads).

This wood's elemental composition is air-based with water as a minor element. They are strong against lightning-based magic. Transfiguration is where this wood truly shines. It performs admirably in other subjects. However, it performs dismally in divination– unusual for a wand with a water element.

Gingerbread, honey-gold, and lavender swirls unfurl from this wand when performing spells. Its magic is accompanied by a scent reminiscent of magnolias and ozone. This wand is stronger in the rain. Five is an important number and the optimum number of embellishments for a mahogany wand. Bright yellow metals and gems are favored, as are pearls. Mahogany wands do not bond well with insect-based cores. Despite this, bees may be attracted to them.
