Prosopis nigra is a South American leguminous tree species that inhabits the Gran Chaco ecoregion, in Argentina and Paraguay. It is known as Algarrobo negro in Spanish, which means "black carob tree". It is also variously called algarrobo dulce, algarrobo morado and algarrobo amarillo.

Known for its consistent and remarkable adaptability, any rigidity in a wand of this wood is more an indication of the wands masters temperament, than of the wand itself. More than able to cope through dire conditions, Algarrobo Negro tends to seek those who are either similar or who will go through widely varied situations in their lifetimes. Sometimes, depending on the core, Algarrobo Negro wands can seek those who are somewhat bitter about life and their circumstances, though it can just as easily seek those who are stubborn, cynical, or even apathetic. It is heavily prized in Argentina and Paraguay.
