In this particular variety, they need excitement more often than common Maple to remain lustrous, but will also take milder excitement more often to remain a reliable and strong caster.
Widely acknowledged as the most powerful of the maples, sugar maple wands are markedly durable and resistant to trauma. This durability, and the increased power, have made sure sugar maple wand wood is always in high demand. These wands do have a slight negative quirk: when used to brew potions, they often have a diluting effect and the resulting product may need to be concentrated. Sugar Maple is also the state tree of West Virginia, Wisconsin, New York, and Vermont.
