Meanwhile, at Francoise DuPont High School, Anne-Jeanne was introducing Jameela's brother Baljeet to the class.

Anne-Jeanne clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. 'Settle down please class. We have another new student. Say hello to Baljeet.'

Baljeet waved to them and some said hi back some waved hi back.

'Would you like to tell everyone a little about yourself?' Anne-Jeanne asked him.

'Certainly' Baljeet smiled. 'I'm Baljeet Koothrapali. I came from Punjab, India with my parents and younger sister Jameela. She is going to performing arts school as she is a talented dancer. My mom works as a paediatrician and my dad is a podiatrist. I would like to become an engineer when I graduate college and make many useful inventions for the world to benefit all people. I also play the sitar in my spare time.'

''Thank you Baljeet. An aspiring career to have!' Anne-Jeanne replied. 'You may find an empty seat and sit down.'

''Thank you Miss' Baljeet replied as he did so.

Juleka had managed to focus on her schoolwork and not think about her brother all morning. And when someone would mention him, she would try to change the subject or excuse herself and go to the restroom. It's okay Jules, you got this. Not long until the day is over and you can go shopping she told herself.

'You all good in there Jule?' Rose asked her on an escape to the restroom at lunchtime. 'You've been in there for a little while.'

Juleka came out, gave Rose a fake smile and thumbs up sign, before going to wash her hands.

'Um, so about sleeping over tonight...' Rose began.

''Thanks so much for letting me, Rose!' Juleka smiled.

'Yeah, sure of course! Well, I'm glad to have you come, but just so you know, I have a doctor's appointment after school' Rose replied as Juleka gasped.

'Are you okay?' Juleka asked her, worried.

'Oh, yes, I'm fine! It's just a six monthly check up. Nothing major!' Rose assured her.

'Okay' Juleka replied, relieved. 'I gotta go home and pack an overnight bag anyway and need to buy some stuff' Juleka replied.

'Okay, come by around 5, that should be okay' Rose smiled as Juleka nodded and smiled back as the bell sounded for the end of lunch.

As soon as the bell rang to signify the end of school, Juleka said bye to her friends and hurried out the door to head to the town square. She went to the newsagents first, perusing the shelves for puzzle books.

Hmmm, Sudoku looks hard and too numbery Juleka thought. I'll try a crossword book; this one should be good. She picked one up and went to the counter to pay for it and then started to walk across the square when she heard a familiar voice calling her name.
