Nick stared back at me and I couldn't help but grin at his expression. It was like he didn't recognize me and I couldn't blame him because I understood. Our lives had completely changed in a few months, I had a son.. he had a wife. In the course of two years we went from a close bonded brotherhood.. to.. I didn't know what we were at this point. Nick wasn't my brother, he wasn't my friend and the only time we were in the same room at the same time was for business purposes only.

He was my enemy

But how our lives were invested and intertwined into one another. Neither of us had the luxury of killing each other without the aftermath of devastating everyone we cared about.

Right now, even staring back at him, knowing that Mia was here... I wanted to feel Nick's pulse stop underneath my fingertips.

I couldn't.

Reaching behind my back I grabbed the folded cardboard envelope sticking out of my pocket. It was thick with unmarked bills totalling 30,000. That was enough for a new watch and chain set for Nick to add to his collection. Or for him to flex his wealth and spoil his strippers at the club for a night.. I didn't care but I knew Nick well enough that it was enough to get him to lay off.

Extending the money to him, Nick hesitated before plucking the envelope from my hand. Immediately he peered inside and thumbed through the bills, counting in his head  and began to grin. Clasping the envelope in one hand then he extended the other for a hug.

"Come here"

Everyone immediately relaxed and began to chuckle as I stepped forward with my own phoney smile plastered on my face like a moron. Hooking our hands together with a loud slap we pulled towards one another in a bro hug. Nick squeeze tight, and I was sure it was meant to be painful but my phoney smile soon became genuine.

"Your kid is not even here yet and you're already getting weak" I spat next to his ear

"Shut the fuck up, be grateful there are so many witnesses here. I'd throw your malnourished ass right off this fuckin boat"

"I know how to swim, dumb fuck"

"How's this for a dumb fuck?" Nick leaned closer.

"I know why you're here.. Stay the fuck away from my wife"

With a chuckle I stepped away releasing his hand and then greeted both Milo and Marco then Dom. Even after giving birth to Gabriel Dom was still stuck on stupid for Angie. They were dating, Angie felt the need to consistently remind me like I was supposed to be upset or territorial when it came to her. I cared for Angie and it was genuine but it purely was because she gave me my first child. A boy, he was proof of the continuation of my legacy, how could I not care about my son's mother?

Who she fucked and sucked, wasn't my concern as long as Gabriel didn't hear it or see it. As long as he was happy and she kept him safe when I wasn't there was all that really mattered to me.
