I felt Kakashi wrap an arm around my shoulders and give me a gentle hug. I leaned into him a bit. I heard a rustling in the tree branches above us and glanced up. In that moment, I saw my Captain smiling down at us.
Stay with him, Rin, he said. I nodded.
Present
"Ready?" Kakashi asked.
"Yeah. Let's go home," I answered. Lord Third had already left.
"Rin Nohara," a male voice growled.
"She is dead," I said.
"You were supposed to come join us quite some time ago," the voice growled again.
"Your leader also wanted someone on the inside and chose me for it. Tell them to come get me if they really want me out of the village," I ordered. I saw Obito come out from the tree tops and land in front of Kakashi and me. I felt my blood begin to boil at the sight of him.
"Come. You were told to come before now," he said. I took a few steps away from Kakashi and toward him.
"You killed them," I growled lowly. I felt something on the back of my neck begin to burn.
"You feel something on your neck, don't you? There is a seal keeping you from saying anything you know about me to any others, Miss Nohara. Well, anything that is believable," Obito said. I felt the cloak of the Nine Tailed Fox begin to spread over my skin. It burned my skin but I barely felt it.
"Rin?" Kakashi asked.
"Stay out of this, boy," I growled, my voice mixing with Kurama's. I charged at Obito and punched him in the gut. He went threw a few trees a moment later. He coughed but managed to shakily stand up and face me again. I charged at him again and effectively managed to break his mask. Obito slammed into another tree and I threw four kunai to keep him in place. I started to prowl closer when Kakashi moved in between us.
"Stop this!" Kakashi said.
"I told you to stay out of this," I snapped.
"I'm not going to just stand by and watch you kill him!" Kakashi yelled.
"You can't save someone that's already dead, Kakashi," I said, slowly calming down.
"I'm not losing you again. I can't," he said, sounding broken.
"What do you want to do with him, then?" I asked, feeling more drained than I had in the months since I became a god.
"I don't know," Kakashi said.
"Why didn't you just let her kill me?!" Obito yelled at Kakashi.
"You aren't worth killing," I muttered, falling to my knees.
"What happened to all that rage? Huh?!" Obito yelled at me.
"What would it matter to you?" I asked dully.
"Enough! Both of you!" Kakashi cut in.
"What do you want to know?" I asked.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.
"I couldn't," I answered. Kakashi scoffed.
"Oh really? There was no other choice?" Kakashi snapped.
"It was a catch twenty two, Kakashi," I said.
"How?" he growled.
"If I told you, he would kill you. If I didn't, I'd lose you anyway," I whispered.
"We're on par with each other, Nohara," Kakashi snapped.
"No, you're not. He's stronger even with his broken body," I said, the seal burning. I winced and set my hand on top of it. It was warm to the touch.
"I warned you once, Rin. If you continue spilling my secrets you will die," Obito cautioned.
"What do you care?" I asked. "I'm just another pawn for you to use in whatever it is you want, Uchiha."
"Shut up! Just shut up!" Obito screamed.
"Why? So you can come up with some cover story to save your own ass?" I snapped.
"I thought I could trust you! I thought you cared!" He screamed.
"Why would I care about the person that murdered my parents?" I asked.
"The Nine Tailed Fox killed everyone that tried to stop it!" Obito snarled.
"No, he didn't. All of those deaths are your fault," I snarled, glaring at Obito.
"How do you know?" Kakashi asked.
"Who else would be crazy enough to go after Minato-sensei? Obito knows how Minato fought. Kushina was weak from childbirth and you were preoccupied. The only way he could've gotten to Kushina and Minato was if you and I were down for as long as it took him to extract the Kyuubi and control it with his sharingan. He succeeded," I answered, feeling less and less hopeful that I would make it out of this alive.
"You expect me to believe that?" Kakashi asked in disbelief.
"Will you let me show you what I remember?" I asked. Kakashi nodded and stumbled over to me. He kneeled in front of me and extended his hand. I gently took it and showed him what happened with Minato, Kushina, and Obito while I was still conscious in the delivery room.
"He... He killed..." Kakashi tried.
"I know. I'll never be able to forgive myself for not being able to stop him... not being able to... to save them," I whispered, my voice breaking near the end.
"But—" Kakashi started. I stopped him before he could say any more.
"I can still have children, Kakashi. It's just a tad harder for me than it was before," I said.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked.
"I will be," I answered, pushing myself to my feet.
"If you say so," Kakashi said uncertainly, worry clouding his eye.
"What are you saying?" Obito snapped at us.
"I was pregnant. You, Mister Uchiha, killed my baby," I answered.
"No... I wouldn't... I..." Obito tried.
"You did. As much as I would like to, I cannot change what you did," I said, deathly calm.
"I wouldn't have if you had bothered to tell me!" Obito screamed.
"I might've known if you hadn't attacked the village," I spat. Horror filled Obito's features.
"Rin?" Kakashi asked.
"Let's go. He can get himself out of the grave he dug," I muttered, turning my back on Obito.
"You can't leave me here!" Obito yelled.
"I can, actually. Have fun getting back to your pitiful little organization," I called.
"I saved you! You owe me!" Obito screamed. I ignored him and continued walking. I felt someone watching and saw Lord Third's orb floating in the trees just out of sight of the clearing where Obito was. I stared at it for a long moment before moving on. He knew some of the secrets I kept now. I heaved a sigh. I knew it was incredibly likely for me to be interrogated now that Lord Hokage knew I had far more secrets than I was willing to admit.
The only question I had rattling in my head was when? When was he going to come after me, if at all? Soon, if memory served me correctly. If things were at all like they were in Helheim, I didn't have long at all. There would be little left of me if the Hokage had me disappear. I stopped. I could still feel Lord Third's watchful gaze on me as I gripped the bloody bandages on my forearms.
They were a constant reminder of what I could never escape from. No matter how hard I tried, they would always come back to haunt me. Just like so many of my other secrets. Out there to find me — to haunt me for the rest of my life. I shook my head sadly and lowered my arms. I stuffed my hands into my pockets and continued on toward the village.
Lord Third was standing at the entrance to the Leaf when I got there. He had a dark look in his eyes though his face remained calm. He turned around and began walking when I came up. I followed him through the village. I didn't make an attempt to explain. Even though we took the back streets and alleys, there were too many prying eyes on the village streets to do anything.
We were at Torture and Interrogation soon enough. It was in a secluded section of the village like the Uchiha Compound. Very few ever dared go near it if they could help it. Typically, only those stupid or drunk enough ever went voluntarily. The others usually were dragged here by ANBU Black Ops members. It had quite the reputation to keep so many at bay.
"You are aware of why you are here?" Lord Third asked once we were inside an interrogation room.
"I have a guess," I answered.
"Why did you not tell me of Obito Uchiha?" He asked.
"I couldn't. He put a seal on my neck that prevents me from saying anything about him to others. I told as much as I could," I replied.
"Can you remove it?" Lord Hokage asked.
"I don't know. It is possible but I would have to see a picture of it before I can make any conclusions about it," I answered.
"What organization is he creating?" he asked.
"The Akatsuki is full of S-rank criminals that are based out of Ame. I know he has at least one Rinnegan user in the organization. Obito first sent me here to spy on Konoha. I fed him lies for months in an attempt to stop him from attacking Konoha. He attacked and took control of Kurama to create massive amounts of panic and destruction," I reported.
"What did you tell him?" Lord Third demanded.
"The ANBU Black Ops was flourishing with able bodied medical support and offensive units. The Fourth Hokage was able to stop him without backup. Kushina Uzumaki had teamed up with Kurama and could access his chakra. The was no easy way into Konoha from anything I could find. Ninja were more abundant than ever before. He stood no chance if he attempted an attack. He staged a successful one against us anyway," I growled.
"All of that was a lie?" He questioned.
"Yes. Konoha was vulnerable from the last war, many were still injured, Minato was more focused on Kushina than ever before, and the seal was weak from her pregnancy. There were three main entry points that he could come from. The first being going through the front gates of the village. The second is simply using his kekkei genkai to come into the middle of the village. The third was using the tunnels that snake under the entirety of the village to gain access," I answered.
"How do you know of the tunnels?" Lord Third asked cautiously.
"They've been around for centuries. I met Frigg before everything went to shit with the gods the first time," I answered.
"The goddess?" He asked.
"Correct. She's stuck in Valhalla with quite a few of the other gods now," I replied.
"Can you get her here?" Lord Hokage questioned.
"She doesn't fall under my control. You'll have to ask one of the Jotun for help on that, Gramps," I replied. I heard a tap on the door.
