Samantha was awoken by a loud bang. Instantly, her eyes opened and her hand was already clutching her wand, ready to send a spell. Her heart began to beat faster and her eyes moved around the room, waiting to something to come out of the shadows.
It was early morning, and she had been resting before going back home. But at the moment, her mind was on keeping herself alive.
However, there wasn't any malice lurking around her. She waited and waited for someone to appear and take her life, but all she could hear were voices. Outside her door and windows muffled voices and screams were appearing, but before she could think of the worst, the sound of laughter came rushing towards her.
What Samantha had been expected were the screams of people being tortured or taken away, not the laughter or the celebration that was suddenly erupting. She remained there, frozen in her spot. Her heart still was beating, threatening to come out at any time, and even through her hand was a little shaky, she had come to terms with herself that if it was going to be her last time, she wasn't going down easily.
The echoed of the footsteps and the shadows under her door were becoming viable. Even though her whole body begged her to stay there, her mind knew that the most logical thing to do was to go investigate. If there was an attack, it was better for her to be there and prepared, than to stay in the room and be caught by surprise.
Slowly, Samantha put on her boots and held tightly her wand. Reaching to her chest, she kissed her necklaces and began to walk towards the door with the wand in position. Already having spells in mind, she put her hand in the doorknob.
Samantha counted to three, she took a deep breath and then opened the door with force.
Her hand was pointing out straight to the center, almost sending out a defense, but instead of seeing people distraught, she was greeted with sounds of joy. She walked out of her room and walked towards the entrance, everyone around, from all the directions her eyes could see, had a smile in their face. They were hugging each other, drinking and signing. She left the room, just as an owl was making her way towards the window carrying a message.
Samantha Castle was beyond confused.
She didn't understand how could they be celebrating in those days, were people were hiding out of fear of being taken and getting killed. She didn't understand what was the cause of joy if there were dark wizards among them trying to destroy everyone. Then it hit her.
That moment, her heart stopped and her mouth was covered by her hands. She gulped, looking everywhere around for a familiar face in the sea of now reckless behavior. There must had been one reason of celebration after so many dark days, and she feared the worst.
❝Agatha!❞ Samantha called desperately once she spotted the face of one of her coworkers. The blonde witch turn around, wearing a wide smile in her face, however, it quickly disappeared once she saw the Castle girl.
Samantha ran to her, dodging the people that crossed her path. Many people turn their heads around, suddenly realizing something. Their faces fell down out of the sudden, like they knew something she didn't, but that didn't stop her. She reached her friend, taking her by the shoulders as an alarming expression adorned her distraught face.
❝What's happening?❞ she asked, a lump forming in her throat as she could still hear many people cheering and laughing. She could hear muffled yells, throwing out random sentences, but she only focused on the blonde. Agatha pursed her lips, not even daring to look at her in the eyes ❝answer me!❞
❝Samantha, I—❞ Agatha tried to say, but no words left her mouth. How could someone deliver such news while everyone around was celebrating.
❝I want to know what is happening, please, j-just tell me, I want to know, I just-tell me❞ Samantha stuttered, tears already forming in her eyes as her legs began to feel weak. Deep in her heart, she knew the truth ❝please❞
❝You-know-who has been defeated❞ Agatha spoke in a low voice, looking with pity at the brunette.
❝By whom?❞ Samantha managed to let out, blinking multiple times to get the tears out of her eyes. Her vision was becoming blurry, and a feeling of fatigue was beginning to spread.
❝He-❞ the blonde put a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it. She looked down, and closed her eyes ❝Harry Potter survived the killing curse...but his parents did not, I'm so sorry, Samantha❞
Samantha opened her mouth in horror, her eyes widen at the words. She shook her head multiple times and moved away from the blonde's grasp.
They're not dead, she thought, they can't be.
❝That's a lie❞ Samantha hissed, walking backwards like the girl in front of her had some sort of disease ❝they're not dead, that's a lie❞
❝It's not❞ Agatha shook her head, aware that people were looking at the scene and had began to whisper among themselves ❝the ministery has already caught the traitor that gave them away and killed some muggles❞
Samantha frowned, breathing so heavily her chest was moving open and down in an alarming rate. As the salty tears were rolling down her face, and her heart was shattering, she watched as people began to point at her and whisper.
❝They have arrested Sirius Black and he has been send to Azkaban❞ Agatha pursed her lips, trying to walk towards Samantha, but she was greeted by a yell in protest.
❝That's a lie!❞ Samantha screamed, fully crying as her knees were becoming weaker.
❝Samantha—❞ the blonde tried to say, but it was too late.
Samantha ran towards the exit, pushing people and cursing her way out. Her mind had never been so full of questions, and her heart had never felt such sorrow. It was lie, it had to be.
She panted, and stopped at the sight of the street, where more people had smiles on their faces. Anger and sadness were beginning to mix, and all she could think of was to make everyone stop smiling. How could they be so happy, when most of her family had been taking away?
Samantha ran and ran, not caring if people found her strange or she seemed crazy. She ran to find some sort of answer, her mind even forgetting she had magic to make her problems easier.
Amid celebration and euphoria, Samantha's anger was awoken. Her life was falling apart, and there wasn't much she could do now.
In the distance, she saw a man giving out a stack of the Daily Prophet, a smile adorning his face as he nodded at the people. Samantha stopped in her tracks for a few moments, trying to pull herself together and think clearly, but she was desperate. Samantha ran again, this time towards the man. She probably looked like a wreck, and she felt like it.
The man was about to greet her with a smile, but then he saw her demeanor and stared at her.
❝are you alright, miss?❞ the man asked, putting down his hand towards his wand in case she tried something.
❝I-I need one of this copies❞ her eyes were wide, all she wanted to do was scream ❝please❞
The man looked at her strangely, but gave her one of the newspapers nonetheless. She took it, and without looking back, she entered an alley.
People passed by, not afraid anymore. They were all oblivious to the fact that she had been there, her heart breaking. They did not seem to care that the lives of people were lost, and it angered her.
Samantha was breath heavily, and she rested her back against the concrete wall. Slowly, she raised the paper and opened it, a sob escaping her lips.
The Dark Lord Defeat!
Harry Potter survived the killing curse, managing to defeat he-who-must-not-be-named, saving us all. May Lily and James Potter Rest In Peace.
Samantha cried, her hands were shaking and her body trembled. She fell to the floor with a tud, letting out sobs. Without realizing what she was doing, she turn the page, only to be left more broken than before.
Sirius Black, The Traitor!
Sirius Black, close friends to the Potter's, was the one who inform the Dark Lord of their secret hiding place. He has been caught not only for the treason, but for killing twelve muggles while chasing and killing another one of his friends, Peter Pettigrew. Currently, no one knows the location of his girlfriend, Samatha Castle, but she is not suspected of any crime. Black has been sent to a highly secured Azkaban cell, where he is going to spend the rest of his life.
Samantha sobbed, throwing the newspaper away with aggression. She put her knees up to her chest, letting out all her feelings.
She had lost so much in so little time. This wasn't supposed to be the way their lives go. They were supposed to be happy, together, alive.
Samantha put her hands up to her hears, trying to drown out all the noises. Her heart ache in ways she hadn't felt before, and the only thing she could do was remember their faces. Samantha's lip began to shake violently, and couldn't hold it anymore, so she screamed. She screamed at the top of her lungs to try and let the sadness out, but it was useless, the damage was already done.
She didn't felt alive, all her dreams, hopes and love had been taken away from her. Perhaps if she squinted her eyes a little tighter, held her head a little stronger, and cried a little louder, she would wake up, and see that everything was just a bad dream.
