Samantha was daydreaming, reminiscing of simpler times. Barely listening to the sounds around her, she couldn't help but feel lost, numb.

The pain still lingered in her heart, striking every once in a while to reminder her of the tragedy. She couldn't help but think about it, imagining what it felt like.

Did it hurt? Was she awake or did she died peacefully in her sleep, with the hopes of a tomorrow who was never to come?

Endless thoughts filled her head. They didn't stopped, no matter how hard she tried.

Samantha Castle stood in the front of Marlene McKinnon's grave.

The newly made gravestone was the cleanest of all, it was surrounded by flowers and pictures, making it seem more welcoming.

Samantha couldn't stop staring at the inscription, where the name of her friend was delicately engraved. She tried to smile, knowing she was in a better place. But the the same thought made her stomach turn, was there? A better place?

She sighed heavily, watching as other people were visiting their love ones. It made her sad knowing that Marlene wasn't the only one departing this life.

In the loving memory of
Marlene McKinnon.
Dear daughter, friend, and soul.
She was the light at the end of the tunnel and the heart that will guide many on their journey.
Rest In Peace, Mar.

She interlaced her hands together and tried to smiled, at least a little bit. Samantha sat down in front of the grave, crossing her legs, not caring she was going to get dirty or what people would think of her.

❝Hey Mar❞ Samantha said softly, playing with the flower in her hand ❝I uhm...I just came to say hi, you know, make you company❞

The breeze came rushing, running through her hair and embracing her body as tears threatened to show.

❝I'm sorry I just came to visit❞ Samantha apologized, looking troubled at the gravestone ❝It's been three months since you're not here anymore...but I just couldn't do it❞

Samantha sighed, cleaning the tears that were falling down her cheek. She promised she wasn't going to cry, Marlene didn't need to see her like that.

❝I'll come often, that I can promise you❞ she chucked a little, then smiled sadly ❝anyways❞ Samantha sniffed, clenching her hands together ❝Everything is okay, we're all hanging there...I miss you, a lot, nothing is the same without you and your laugh and smile and your jokes...❞

She looked around, watching as the trees moved peacefully and the leafs dropped to the floor. At least Marlene had a lovely place to rest.

❝How are you? I hope you're doing good, I really do❞ Samantha tilted her head and she began to fix a few flowers out of place ❝I hope you're listening and that you're resting peacefully, you deserve to be happy, if you weren't in this life, at least in the next one❞

The wind whistle and rushed through the trees, sending a cold breeze her way. She embraced herself, pinching her arm a little to make sure she wasn't dreaming.

❝After it happened...I was lost, and I know, I know, you hate to see me sad, but how can I not be if part of my heart is not here anymore?❞ Samantha stared at the ground in front of her, not able to look at the front ❝I still feel that way, but I'm not the only one going through it, and it would be selfish to pretend I'm the only one grieving your death❞

Samantha stopped talking for a bit, trying to think of what to say. But it didn't matter, Marlene would have want to listen to everything, without sugarcoating it.

❝I went to visit your parents and sister a few hours ago, got them flowers and talk to them for a while too❞ Samantha shrugged, and she couldn't help but remember the times she was over in their house.

She shook her head and decided to change the topic, giving her friend more details of what she had missed ❝remember Jason's girlfriend? Well, she's pregnant and is going to have a baby girl soon, I'm going to be an aunt, can you believe that?❞

Samantha chucked, but then her smile died down, looking at the grave with heavy heart.

❝Everything will be okay, maybe not so much without you, but...I know you'll be there, somehow❞ Samantha slowly stood up, wiping her pants ❝I have to go, but I promise you that I will come visit often, don't think you'll get rid of that easily❞

She let out a bitter chuckle, before giving the grave one last look. Samantha sighed and closed her eyes.

❝I love you Mar, watch over for us❞

And with that, Samantha apparated out of the cemetery. Where a part of her was bury, but the memory will always live on.
