Samantha was peacefully sleeping. Her head was against Lily's, the two breathing softly as they had the blanket up to their chins.
The redhead had began to feel symptoms since yesterday, and even though they had went to the hospital for the birth of the baby, they told her that she wasn't there yet.
Being in those circumstances, the group of friends decided to stay in the same room in case of emergency. Samantha had been in the hospital the day before to see Alice, who had her baby boy as well. The Castle girl met their baby, and she was so happy because he was Harry's age.
James, Sirius and Remus were sleeping in front of them in the inflatable bed, where their bodies were pushing each other. Samantha was going to sleep in the other bed with Sirius and Remus, but James insisted not to.
The morning sun had began to infiltrate the room, resting the daylight rays of sunshine upon their faces. The house had been silent and steady, the only thing that could be heard was the snoring of the boys and the ticks of the clock.
However, the silence was disturbed by a groan and sharp breath. Lily opened her eyes forcefully, feeling a strong sting that send shots of pain throughout her body. She sighed and rested her hand upon her belly, trying to ease the pain. The redhead took her pillow to positioned it in a higher level and turn to her left, smiling softly at Samantha's calmness, but that didn't stop the pain from spreading, as her mouth let out a more loud sound of pain.
Instantly, Samantha's eyes opened and looked around in alarm until her gaze fell on her friend. Lily was inhaling and exhaling, and sweat began to drip down her forehead, rolling down her porcelain skin.
❝Hey, what happened?❞ Samantha questioned, taking off the covers off her body to kneel next to her ❝are you alright?❞
❝Yeah, Nothing to worry about, just—❞ a short, yet painful moan escape her lips. She shook her head lightly, trying to give her concerned friend a smile ❝just some contractions, that's all❞
❝do you want me to wake up James?❞ Sam asked, resting her hand in her lower arm in comfort.
❝No, no, it's alright❞ Lily shook her head one again, massaging her belly ❝He's nervous enough already, I'll be alright, go to sleep, Sam❞
This time it was Samantha's turn to shake her head. She took her pillow and imitated her, sitting up to her level.
❝it's okay, I'll stay here until the pain goes away❞ the brunette gave her a wide smile, interlacing her hand with hers ❝if it hurts too much, squeeze my hand❞
Lily chuckled, looking down at their hands ❝you've gone mad, I might crush it❞
Samantha shrugged ❝I'll be alright, nothing a potion can't fix❞
The two girls stayed up the rest of the morning, going through the pain together. At some point, the contractions had stopped, and the two fell asleep again.
Samantha was finishing putting away the clean dishes in the kitchen after breakfast. Everyone else was in the living room, trying to figure out how to built a baby car as a gift to Harry.
Closing the last cabinet, Samantha sighed softly and wiped her hands in her jeans. Her hair had been pull in a braid, while she was wearing an old blouse that was loose enough for her comfort.
She entered the living room and was welcomed by the loud voices of the men who were repeating they knew what they were doing. Upon seeing her presence they all fell silent. Her boyfriend shot her a smile and a wink before they returned to their argument. Lily patted the sit next to her, going to through various magazines to chose a couple of more additions to the house.
❝how do you feel?❞ Samantha asked, crossing her legs and resting her head in her hand. Lily sighed, ignoring the male bickering in the background.
❝I feel tired, but it's alright, nothing I can't manage❞ Lily smiled, passing a tighter page of furniture.
Samantha nodded, but analyzed her face. She couldn't image the exhaustion her friend was having, and even if she could help, she knew Lily wouldn't accept it.
Lily was raised with muggle traditions, where there were no such thing as magic to ease the pain. Samantha, even though she was a half blood, she was raised in the wizarding world, where the pain could be ease quickly. She understood that Lily wanted the pregnancy as normal as possible, even if it meant tolerating the pain.
❝If you three don't stop I'll kick your arses out of the house❞ Lily threaten. She didn't had to look up to know their eyes were in her.
❝But that's not fair!❞ Remus and Sirius argued, causing Sam to giggle.
❝You wouldn't❞ James narrowed her eyes at her.
Lily just had to raise her eyebrow and the three fell silent. Sending Samantha a smile, she stood up with the help of the sofa and let out a breath for the energy used.
Just as she was about to walk to the kitchen to get some water, she let out a loud groan of pain and leaned forward due to the pain. Immediately, James was to her side to prevent her from falling.
❝I'm alright, dear❞ she nodded, trying to calm everyone's nerves. They all stood silent, waiting for something else to happen ❝stop looking at me that way, I'm okay, I pro—❞
She was not okay.
Water began to drip down her legs, forming a puddle around her feet. No one dared to move, or even breath.
❝Maybe I'm not okay❞ Lily looked up, her eyes widen at the realization of what was going to happen.
Then all hell broke loose.
❝We got to go!❞ James was the first one to yell, making everyone jump in surprise.
Quickly, everyone began to take the stuff necessary for the trip. Samantha took their purses that contain all the stuff they needed and grabbed the keys of the car they were going to use. Because of the pregnancy, they didn't want to apparated to the hospital; it was too much energy and something could go wrong. So instead, they had rented a car, but Samantha and Lily were the only ones who knew how to drive.
James and Sirius carried Lily to the car as Samantha ran first to start it. Remus following closely to prepare for their trip. When everyone was in, Samantha didn't even waited for instructions and began to drive.
Fortunately for them, the hospital wasn't so far, and there weren't many cars in the road, making their trip fast. In the backseat, Lily was trying to keep calm, but this time, her peaceful dementor was replaced with scared one.
Samantha parked quickly and everyone rushed out of the car. Sending encouraging words to their redhead friend, they all followed the couple of the lobby. Remus explained to the nurses what was happening and they all quickly put Lily in a bed.
James has been arguing with a nurse about wanting to be there, and in the end, he won not only his spot, but for someone else. He looked at his three best friends, not wanting to chose between them but they were running out of time and they all knew it.
Samantha was going to tell James to pick one of the boys, them being his closest friends, but as a silent agreeing, the three turn to see her. She raised her eyebrows in surprise as Sirius took away the stuff in her arms and gave her a quick kiss.
❝Come on, Sam, or we're going to miss it❞ James took her hand and dragged to her the room, where the nurses were getting everyone done.
Lily had been breathing heavily, but smiled opening as she saw the two. Each of them went to opposite sides, holding her hands for support.
❝You can do it, Lils, come on❞ James kisses her forehead, causing Lily to smile. Samantha squeezed her hand and gave her an encouraging smile, the redhead remembering the words from earlier.
And with that, the birth began.
They were in the room for quite some time, hearing Lily's screams broke their hearts, but they all put on a brave face and provide the strong and helpful guidance she need it.
After some hard moments, Lily smiled, and a baby cry echoed in the room.
❝It's a boy❞ one of the nurses smiled at them, nodding to show them he was healthy. They proceeded to make the necessary tests to make sure everything was okay, letting Lily rest.
❝You did it❞ Samantha smiled, embracing her. She gave her a kiss on the cheek and squeeze her before letting James go the same.
The nurse approached, giving Lily the baby wrapped in white blanket. The redhead smiled wide, feeling the tears roll down her cheeks.
❝Hello, my love❞ Lily whispered, looking sweetly at the boy. She looked up to see James, nodding after his pleading look ❝go ahead❞
James excitedly took the baby in arms, extra careful not to drop him. He smiled and shed happy tears as well.
❝Hello my boy, you're so handsome, like your father❞ he chuckled, moving his arms to keep him entrain ❝I'm going to love you so much❞
After a few more seconds, he looked up and shared a smile with Lily, giving her a kiss on the head. Then, they both turn to Samantha and smiled.
❝would you like to meet your godson?❞ Lily asked, giving her an encouraging smile. Samantha looked hesitant, she didn't want to intrude in their moment, but once she saw that both of them wanted her to, she nodded.
James walked towards her and put the baby in her arms, carefully, Samantha carried him. She smiled, releasing the breath she was holding. He was so tiny, and beautiful. His eyes were closed, and it seemed like he was sleeping.
Then, his eyes opened and stared at her in wonder, making her heart melt. Samantha grinned and looked at Lily, before watching the baby again.
❝he has your eyes, Lily❞ Samantha nodded, letting out a chuckle at the exited expressions of the two ❝and he is beautiful❞
Samantha looked at the baby, giving it a little kiss on the head. She heard the doors opened, revealing more people coming in the room to meet Harry. She smiled at the boy, and promised right there and then, that no matter what, she was going to protect him from all harm.
