'If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us;
if we are faithless, he remains faithful-
for he cannot deny himself.'
2 Timothy 2:11-13What a load of mumbo-jumbo. OK, let's unpack this a little bit. Over the next 4 days, we will look at each of the different parts of this verse. OK, first up... Part 1!
'If we have died with him, we will also live with him;'
Basically, this is saying that if we share just a little bit of Jesus' pain in dying at the cross, we will live with him forever. Now, I don't mean to tell you to go nail yourself to a cross - that would be stupid and I'd probably end up in court. But, seriously, I do mean what I'm going to say next.
Why did Jesus die for us?
Jesus died so that we could be forgiven for our sin. So if we just try not to sin as much in our lives, we are taking some of that pain. Here are some practical ideas:
-Stop gossiping with your mates - say nice stuff about that person instead.
-Don't watch stuff on TV/youtube that you know God wouldn't like.
-Try to not be jealous - think of how lucky you are instead.
-Don't criticize others and yourself - you're criticizing God's handiwork!
-Always want the best for others.Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for dying for me. Thank you for giving me confidence throughout life. Please help me to bear some of your pain by being thoughtful and kind every day.
Amen
