Y/N Pov.
Walking into the crowd of the dead, Clem, AJ, Violet, and myself are trying to blend in both so we don't get spotted by the boat and so we aren't killed by the walkers. However, I can't use my fire or it'll burn off the walker guts leaving me smelling like normal which would probably tell all our dead friends around us I'm not a walker.
Y/n: (Mind) I always forget how much this shit sucks.
The people on the boat shoot at the walkers while we hide behind them under the cover of the moonlit night. The dead combined with the almost utter darkness besides the moonlight and a couple torches make us really hard to pick out from the rest. One fires in our direction, but we're quick to move behind a walker.
Y/n: (Mind) Just keep our heads down. I'm glad I decided not to where my hat. I guess Mom's not out here killing the walkers as her power of smoke is more better at suffocating, smothering, and restraining rather than outright destruction.
Another walker goes down and Clem jumps behind a walker while the others do the same, they switch up, making sure not to stay behind walkers that get shot. Though, I wouldn't be lying if I said this was all I was thinking about. I'm worried about Mom and my new little sister I've never met.
Y/n: (Mind) I wonder if my sister has powers like myself and mom? I guess we'll see.
I shake my head and try to focus back up. After a little while, we finally make it to the boat. Luckily, it seems everyone with me decided to be smart and use the walkers as shields so nobody was bitten by the dead or even glanced twice at. Though, I doubt our luck will last. Everyone in the group hides behind some boxes on the pier, making sure nobody spots us.
Clementine: Come on, Willy...
One of the guards or "soldiers" unknowingly approaches our group to shoot at the walkers. Suddenly, I see Willy and Tenn floating down the river with the supplies which we opted to commandeer; the soldiers notice the duo and immediately calls out to those there by him or within shouting range.
Soldier: Supplies going overboard!
Soldier 2: Goddamnit! Someone get over there and see what's going on.
I even hear Lilly yelling.
Lilly: Stay sharp! We're under attack.
The first soldier jumps over the boxes and goes to run over to the supplies, however, I grab him and pull him to the ground while no one is watching. Nobody on his side anyway. Clementine, Violet, and AJ watch as I shoot him through the eye with a flame bullet before silently throwing him into the water. I look back at them.
Y/n: What? I didn't want to take the chance of him seeing us from behind while we're distracted. Striking first is important.
Clementine: Alright. Now's our chance.
This is the part of the plan where we split up as they have to go into the water which I can't move in if it goes past my waist. Bad enough it weakens me to the point where I can barely stand if it is past my knees, but up to my waist I'd be powerless and unable to move. I look at the three first & then at the water.
Y/n: Alright, this is where we split up. I'm going after Mom and Maria.
Clementine: Be careful.
Violet comes up to me.
Violet: Remember your promise?
I chuckle and walk over to the two, wrapping my arms around both of them. I give them both a kiss before replying.
Y/n: I haven't forgotten, but it applies to you both too. Come back to me.
I look down at AJ and place my hand on his head.
Y/n: Keep an eye on Clem for me, will you?
AJ: Yeah, I'll protect her while you're getting your family back.
I shake my head.
Y/n: Our family, AJ.
With everything now said, they hop into the water and I turn myself into a thin flame, jumping from torch to torch until I'm on the ship. The highest floor. I jump out of the torch and hide by the wall closest by my position. With my hat still on my back, I look around the corner and find more soldiers moving out and quickly stepping to go deal with the problem we'd manufactured.
Y/n: (Mind) Fuck, we're smart-
Suddenly, I hear a gun cock behind me and I turn to find one soldier standing there. They go to shoot, but I grab the gun and place my finger behind the trigger. The soldier tries to shoot me once more, but I slam his head into the ground. While he's dazed, I put my arms around his neck and snap it before tossing him into the water behind us. The sound of the gunfire concealing it. The back of the boat, well, steamboat has no one back there so he goes unnoticed by anybody.
Y/n: (Sigh) Fucker should've just walked away.
I sneak around the corner and find a row of doors that belong to the people who live here on the boat. Thinking back to what Minnie said, she said there's a black door. It's where Mom's room is.
Y/n: Black door, black door...
I finally find it, but duck behind some boxes as Soldiers run by me without looking at me. They didn't spot me, so I quickly go to the door and press me ear against it. Inside, I hear some noise and it sounds like soft whimpering. Like whoever is inside is trying not to cry, but not doing the best job.
Y/n: (Mind) Maria?
I try to open the door, but it's been locked so I grab the handle and heat it up to the point of an orange glow radiates off of it. I then squeeze the handle and pull down, tearing it off and letting the door come to a slight opened look. I throw the handle overboard before opening the black door slowly, and when I finally do I come across a little girl around the age of five sitting on my mother's lap. My mom looks at me with surprise and I smile at her, placing my hat back on my head.
Y/n: Nice to see you, Mom.
Mom practically tears up as she looks at me.
Mom: My little firecracker... I knew you'd come.
Y/n: Yeah, I'm here for our friends as well. So is Clem, Violet, and AJ. The others are not on the boat, but helping us from the outside.
Mom: That's good to hear. I was so worried about all the noise outside, I thought it might be a new bandit group trying to attack us. Believe me, it's happened once before while we were out here. Just a random roaming band.
I nod, shutting the door behind me so no one would see it opened. I look at Maria and Mom notices me, so she grins.
Mom: Maria, honey, I want you to meet someone.
The little girl raises her head off of Mom's chest and looks up at her. She nods to me and the little girl turns where I can fully see her face. She honestly, no surprise, looks like me when I was five. I can see some freckles on her face, dark hair, fair skin, dark eyes which are now slightly red from crying. She has big puffy cheeks. She spots me, but shyly puts her head back into Mom's chest & I can't blame her as I'm a stranger right now. Although, Mom gets her to look back at me again. A small innocent look on her face.
Mom: Maria, this is your big brother, Y/n.
Maria, softly, speaks finally.
Maria: Big brother?
Mom: (Nods) Yes. You've never met him because before you born, when he was a little older than you, we got separated. But our family is back together again.
Maria looks at me and I kneel down, seeing she's still a little nervous. I take off my hat and hold it to my chest, giving her a soft smile.
Y/n: It's nice to meet you, Maria. Like Mom said, I'm your big brother.
She grins at me and shyly waves. I wave back, but notice she's looking at my hat.
Y/n: I bet you're scared right now, huh?
She nods.
Y/n: Would wearing my hat make you feel better?
She nods again and I place it on the top of her head. Maria smiles at it and hops down off of Mom, walking over to me before hugging me. She lays her head on my shoulder and I smile, patting her back. I look up at Mom and she's wiping some tears away from her face, but I also notice something on both her and Maria's legs. Small cuffs.
Y/n: Mom, I'm going to get you both out of here. What's with the cuffs?
Mom: They're made of seastone. Lilly made make them under threat of harming Mary, so I had to. We can't use our powers until they're off.
I nod, but think back.
Y/n: "Our powers"?
Mom: (Nods) You have fire, I have smoke, she has soot. We really are connected. One of the soldiers, Jerry, has the keys to them. Lilly gave them to him because he and I are far from a friendship. To put it lightly. He's stationed toward the front of the boat right now, I believe.
I stand up and hold Maria while she clings to me. Mom stands up.
Y/n: I'll go get them, bring them back here, get you guys un-cuffed then you go back to the school. We'll handle the rest from here. Remember, Mom, you've gotta watch after Mary. I believe she needs it more than I do right now.
Mom nods and I put Maria down, but she looks up at me.
Maria: Where are you going, Bubby? Are you coming back?
I nod.
Y/n: I'm going to go get the keys to get those cuffs off and when I do, I'll be back. You have my word.
I pat her head then head to the door to leave, looking back one last time and giving them a grin before looking back at Maria.
Y/n: Keep Mom and my hat safe for me.
Maria: Okay, Bubby.
I leave, going to find Jerry.
+
Maria: (She'd have freckles and darker eyes, but this is her) (5)
Evelyn: (Mom) (40)
(She'd be more tanned and have a deep scar on the right cheek as well as one on her forehead that goes down over her left eye.) (I'm also on a trip right now and will be until like Saturday or Sunday, but I plan on getting out a new chapter of ATLA this week. I think during the weekend I hope.)
