Y/N Pov.
Clementine and I get to work looking at the deck while trying to find anything that we could use. While I could just melt the lock, Jane isn't a huge fan of the idea. At least not at the moment. But it's whatever.
Clementine: C'mon, Y/n. Let's look over here.
Clem and I look around the front of the deck, but all we see is some big cannon. Clem looks at Jane.
Clem: You think this thing still works?
Jane: Heh! Check the muzzle, Napoleon.
She and I look inside the barrel of the cannon and find that it's been sealed up with what looks like concrete.
Y/n: Cement?
Jane: They fill 'em with cement so they're safe.
Y/n: What do you mean "safe"? I'm pretty sure no one within the last hundred years was carrying a cannon ball.
Jane shrugs.
Jane: You never know. I mean, what's to stop someone from wanting to fill out their fantasy of becoming a pirate?
I shake my head and turn back around where I find Clementine standing near an old telescope. I see her look through it as she tells us what she's seeing through it.
Clementine: There's some buildings across the river. I think I can see a church...
Jane: The nearest river crossing is miles up. Rebecca wouldn't make it in her condition. Keep it in mind that-
Before she can finish her thought, Clem interrupts her.
Clementine: There's someone coming toward us.
Y/n: What?
Without taking another step forward, I grab Clem's hand and we duck down along with Jane who sneaks over to us. We watch as some guy approaches us and from the looks of it he isn't travelling with anyone. He's skinny, pale, has brown hair and glasses. Kind of reminds me of Ben... Minus the glasses.
Y/n: (Whisper) Just great. Some random asshole is here.
Jane: Shit, shit, shit. He's coming this way. And who knows if he has friends nearby?
Y/n: Judging by his appearance, there's no way he's alone. I doubt he could make it if he was.
Clementine gets closer to me as she quietly asks Jane and I about the guy.
Clementine: Why's he coming up here?
I shrug.
Y/n: How should I know?
Jane: It doesn't matter, we should scope him out and see what he's up to. I don't like having some stranger sneaking around so close to the others. We've got enough on our plates with a baby coming. Last thing we need is someone telling their friends about the new, easy targets in the neighborhood.
I give Jane a nod.
Y/n: Agreed.
Clementine: We can distract him.
Jane: Good call.
I look back to Jane.
Y/n: Be ready.
The guy starts to walk up the stairs so we all get into position. Clementine & I hide behind the cannon, as Jane hides in the room. The guy reaches the deck & tries to put the bag inside the trash can. We peek over the cannon to watch him & it looks like he can barely fit the bag inside the trash can.
Clementine: (Whisper) Now?
Y/n: (Whisper) Yeah.
Clementine and I step out from behind the cannon and try introducing ourselves to the stranger.
Clementine: Hello.
The guy turns around and he points a small revolver at us, but his hand is shaking pretty noticeably. I step in front of Clementine just in case, but she still stands out somewhat to my side so she can see this guy.
Y/n: Come on, guy. We're just kids.
Clementine: We just want to talk. Who are you?
The guy shakily holds the gun at us before speaking in some weird accent that makes him sound like the evil blonde guy from Rocky.
Guy: I am Arvo. I'm going to go. I don't want to shoot.
As Arvo keeps his attention and gun trained on us, I can notice Jane sneaking up behind him. So in order to keep him from shooting us or her, we keep on asking him questions about himself as we've never met him before.
Arvo: I don't want to shoot anyone... Especially дети... uh, children.
Y/n: Well...be cool, Arvo. You be cool, and everything will be peachy.
Clementine: You don't have to shoot anyone. Just put the gun down.
I see Jane get right up on him and I give her a nod, signalling her. Jane immediately grabs the gun from Arvo, ripping it from his grasp, and pointing it at him. Clementine and I walk over to her as she keeps it on Arvo who raises both of his frail hands up.
Jane: Back up. Put the bag down.
Arvo drops the bag he was trying to hide.
Jane: Clem, Y/n, make sure he doesn't have any other weapons in there.
Y/n: Sure.
Clem and I kneel down, inspecting the bag. She nods to me and I slowly zip it open, but instead of finding anything like guns or knives...we find a shit ton of medical supplies. Bottles, needles, etc. All unused. Practically untouched. Clementine and I look at one another shocked at what we found.
Jane: Anything?
Y/n: Uh... Yeah. I think this definitely is something.
Jane looks down and is as just surprised as us.
Jane: Whoa. That's a serious stash of meds
Suddenly Arvo starts to quickly speak as he keeps his hands held up.
Arvo: No, no, no, no, no. Take whatever you want, but don't take that medicine. It's for my sister. My older sister. She is sick. The pain makes her cry, and that makes those things come. Please. This medicine is all she has.
I look at Arvo and something tells me he isn't telling the truth. I glance at Clem and shake my head, silently telling her I don't believe he's telling us the truth. She looks at Arvo & asks him about his sister.
Clementine: Is it just you and your sister?
Arvo: No. I have many friends. In the woods.
Jane scoffs.
Jane: Sister or not, we could really use that stuff.
Y/n: (Nods) Yeah...we could, couldn't we?
Arvo: No! You are not nice people. You have already left me defenseless and now you take my sister's medicine? You are-
He starts to speak russian, but I don't understand a word since he starts talking that weird language again.
Jane: Hey! We've got people who are suffering. Who need this medicine. Luke's still a wreck after Carver's, Y/n's back is a mess, Rebecca's in pain... Look at all of it. Kids, we need that stuff.
I think about my back and about the others, but Arvo speaks up again.
Arvo: My people are suffering just as much as yours. You are not special! "Clementine", yes? You must believe me.
Jane: None of us believe a fucking word about your "sick sister".
Arvo: Please don't make my sister suffer. She has been through enough.
Jane narrows her eyes.
Jane: Oh, yeah? Well, I think you're just some junkie. You know what that word means, huh?
Y/n: Hm.
Arvo: Oh! Oh, no! I'm telling the truth. I swear upon my own life.
Jane: I don't believe any of this. Medicine, kids.
Arvo: No, no, no! You cannot take those from me!
I feel a hand touch my back and I notice that it's Clementine. I grunt a little as the pain is still there and probably will be for a while. I hear her sigh and she picks up the bag looking at the stuff inside.
Clementine: I'm sorry, Arvo. We need these.
Arvo: You will wish you hadn't done this.
Jane grabs Arvo by his collar and slams him against the rail, holding the gun to his head as we watch in surprise. Arvo starts to cower as she holds the gun against his head.
Arvo: No! What are you doing? You don't have to do this! Just let me go.
Clementine: Is it safe to let him go?
Jane doesn't say anything to Clem, instead focusing on him.
Jane: Don't you ever come around here again. I don't care if you do have some sick sister. The next time I see you... you won't just be walking away. Go.
Jane releases Arvo and he walks away. Jane tosses the gun to the floor afterward while placing her hands on her head.
Jane: I can't believe I've gotten into this mess. Taking some stupid kid's stuff... Like a bandit.
I cross my arms.
Y/n: We're not bandits. He pulled a gun on us first.
Clementine: We did kind of frighten him.
Y/n: Pfft. We're children and he still kept his gun raised.
Clementine shrugs.
Clementine: We should go get everyone else.
Jane: Yeah. Go bring those meds back to the others and bring everybody back here. I'm going to get this place open and then we need to get moved in ASAP.
Y/n: You got it.
Jane continues trying to pick the lock, and we leave. We walk down the stairs and see Luke approaching. He runs, or rather limps, over to us.
Luke: Clem! Y/n! Hey! Any luck with that observation deck? I was just checking on Rebecca and Kenny, and they said they hadn't heard from you in a while. I don't guess there would be much, but Jane seems pretty resourceful. God knows we could use a break.
Clem and I give each other a secret look, not sure if we should tell him what happened but we end up doing so.
Clementine: Jane, Y/n and I were trying to open the gift shop and a stranger showed up. He had a lot of medicine, so we took some.
Luke looks at us surprised.
Luke: What?! You robbed him? Seriously? You stole meds from somebody?
Y/n: Hey, don't get on us, Luke. It's that guy's own fault for, one, pointing a gun at kids, and two, not hiding them better. Plus we need them more than that guy. He was just some junkie anyway, or at least looked like one.
Clementine: Y/n's right. Sometimes you have to do bad things if you want to survive.
Luke: (Sighs) Where is this guy now?
Y/n: Jane took his gun before chasing him off. It's just her up there on the deck now.
Luke: Well, I guess Jane's really rubbed off on you two.
I roll my eyes.
Y/n: Oh please, Luke, spare me the good guy bullshit. This is about survival. You think we wanted to take the meds? Of course not. But we need them. I'm not doing good with my back, your side is messed up, and Rebecca is pregnant. It's just how things are.
I take a moment and remember something my uncle told me once. After a moment, I look up at Luke.
Y/n: You want to know what my uncle told me once?
Luke: Enlighten me.
Y/n: He once said that there's one simple truth about the world. If you don't protect what belongs to you, then sooner or later, it belongs to someone else. Simple as that. Nothing else...needed.
Luke scoffs.
Luke: Your uncle doesn't sound like a ray of sunshine.
Y/n: Yeah, well, he was realistic.
Luke: (Sighs) You said Jane is still up there now, right?
Clementine: Yeah. She's trying to get the gift shop opened.
Luke: You know, I can't figure her out. I mean, she really lays it on the line, but at the same time, she doesn't show you anything that counts. And I'm never quite sure if she just doesn't like people, or just plain-out doesn't like me.
I laugh a little.
Y/n: Knowing Jane it's probably the ladder.
Luke: (Chuckles) Ouch.
Clementine: Personally... I'm not sure what to think about her. She's strong, and she's been helping us. But she's cold. Kind of like how Molly was when we first met her.
I think back to the first time we met Molly and Clem is right on the money... Jane is almost exactly like how Molly was back then. Though she warmed to us pretty quickly. Probably because we were little kids at the time.
Luke: Maybe, but nobody's that cold. I'm definitely starting to think we might need to branch out.
Y/n: What do you mean?
Luke: Jane seems like the kind of person who gets tempered by hardship. You know? But when I look at Kenny now, he just... he seems broken, and broken people get reckless. I know you both got history with him. Look, I think he's a good guy. At least, started as a good guy. But I just think he's had to take more than he can handle.
Clem and I both groan. She crosses her arms.
Clementine: You're wrong. Kenny's stronger than anyone. He tries to protect us. Just like Molly. Just like Carley. Just like...
Clementine stops before she says the next person, but I know what she was going to say.
Luke: I don't know, guys. I used to think that... maybe all the horror hadn't gotten to you two yet, but not only did you watch practically your friend murder Carver, but you beat Madison to death. Not just kill her, but... Clem, Y/n, you two didn't even blink.
Clementine's hand tightens as I hold it.
Clementine: After what she did to...
She glances at me.
Clementine: After what she did to him, and after what Carver did to all of us... They deserved what they got. Both of them did. And I don't regret what I did.
Luke: They were bad people, no question about that. I'm just hoping we don't become the same.
Y/n: Luke, we don't kill people just because we want to. We kill people because it's necessary. We're nothing like them. Now, if you'll excuse us, we need to tell the others about the deck.
Luke: Yeah. Good. I will, uh... I'll see you back there.
Luke goes upstairs and we return to Parker's Run.
