It was just another normal day at HQ, Steve had blown something up and almost gotten everyone shot at least twice, Danny had yelled at Steve most of the time, he was being shot at. Chin had tried to calm them both down. Kono had managed to save Steve a couple times. Right now, everyone was doing paperwork or at least looking as if they were doing paperwork.

Kono pulled out the velvet box she had hidden in her desk drawer. The snap of it opening echoed in her office. The gem glinted in the light filtering in the window behind her. She sighed lightly. The door to her office opened and she hurriedly tried to hide the velvet box. Her panicked look amused Chin. "What you got there, cuz?" Kono shook her head, "Nothing." Chin raised his eyebrows, sitting in the chair opposite her desk. "Doesn't seem like nothing." Kono sighed and snapped the box shut before handing it to Chin, he grinned when he saw the ring box. He turned in in his hand. "I'm flattered Kono, but we're related." She gave an annoyed laugh before attempting to snatch the ring back. Chin pulled it away from her grasping fingers. "It's beautiful Kono, really. You decide how you're gonna propose?" Kono shrugs, taking back the ring as Danny over hears, he pokes his head in the door. "Who's proposing?" Danny stepped into Kono's office, "Kono, are you proposing?" Kono dipped her head, sighing. Danny's disappearance from his office had prompted Steve to come looking for him. "Who's proposing? Danny, you proposing?" Danny rolled his eyes as he sat in the chair beside Chin. "Not me, you schmuck." Steve give his usual shit eating grin, leaning on the doorway.

Danny turned to Kono, "That's wonderful, Kono. Can I see the ring?" Kono paused before handing it over. Steve looked over Danny's shoulder as he opened the box and the ring glittered back at them catching the light. "It's beautiful, Kono." Steve told her as Danny closed the box and handed it back. "She's going to love it." Danny told the nervous woman, Kono gave a shy smile. "Thanks." Chin leaned forwards in his seat, "How you going to propose? In front of the beach? During dinner? Put it in her dessert and wait for her to find it?" Danny looked just as excited as her cousin, Steve had a similar emotion on his face. Kono shrugged, "haven't figured that out yet." Steve nodded, "Well at least you can be romantic, not like Danny." Danny scoffed, "Hey I can be romantic. How else do you think I got Rachel to marry me?" Wicked grins passed over Kono's, Steve's and Chin's faces. "I figured you got her pregnant." Chin teased. "Whereas, I think you managed to convince her, she couldn't do any better." Steve added his input. Kono laughed, slight more at ease, she raised her hands, "Hey, I figured, you got her to fall in love with you roguish ways." Danny shook his head, "Why am I friends with any of you?" Steve turned back to Kono. "Need any help with ideas?" Before Kono could reply, Danny cut in. "How are you gonna propose to Catherine? Get her to defuse a bomb and out pops a ring? During a shootout?" Steve turned back to his partner, "I can be romantic, Danny. Okay? I can be romantic." Chin and Kono rolled their eyes at the bickering pair. Steve got a call, right as an idea began forming in Kono's mind. She scribbled it down so she wouldn't forget and moved with the others to the door. Chin gave her a knowing look before heading back to his office to grab his gear.

You met with Kono later that evening, she had asked you to meet her at the beach so you could go surfing in the early evening. She grinned happily at you. You kissed her, tasting the sea salt on her lips, smelling the coconut from her hair and the sandalwood mixed with hydrangeas on her skin. She kissed you back, expertly moving your fingers away from the green cord around her neck. Pulling away she grinned widely at you once more. You returned the grin and you both grabbed your boards before racing into the water. It splashed around your knees as you moved further and further out.

You both sat on your boards, feet dangling in the warm waters. You tilted your head up to look at colours chasing the sinking sun. "We should go back." You muttered. "In a minute." Kono's reply was soft and tender. You heard a splash and turned around. Kono had dived under the waves, her board still anchored to her ankle was being pulled along behind her. She surfaced and grinned cheekily. She pulled herself up onto your board, straddling it. Her board tugging at her ankle and moving with the small waves. She kissed you, weaving her slender fingers through your hair, tugging you forwards. You kissed back, your hand resting on her waist, the other holding you both steady on your board. Kono pulled back and removed her fingers from your hair. She used one hand to steady her and other to lift the green cord around her neck. She wound it around her hand and there was a flash of something on the other end. Kono lifted it up, and the object dangled in front of you. It was a ring. It was perfect to your tastes, the gem glittered in the darkening light. Kono had decided on a direct approach and save the longer speech for her vows.

"Y/N, will you marry me?"
