You were the only daughter of a powerful lord, second in power only to the Martel's. Your father had no other children. According to your father, your mother had failed in her duty as a wife to bear him a son. He had remarried several times after her death, but no wife had blessed him with a son. His current wife had just died in childbirth with his second daughter. Your father's grief descended upon your lives, he wanted to ensure that the lands of his father and grandfather stayed with someone who shared his blood. He needed to ensure his bloodline continued which was why he was marrying you off to Tristan de Martel. Tristan's father the count needed the wealth and lands your father possessed so marrying son to you was the best way to gain control over that power.

You arrived at the Count's castle, stepping out of the carriage carefully. Your light blue dress brushing the ground. You curtsied upon meeting the Count. "This must be the daughter." He took your offered hand and kissed the back of it. "She is as a beautiful as her mother was." You smiled politely. "Thank you, my lord." He grinned at you. "This is my daughter Aurora, she will show you around. Unfortunately, my son, your betrothed is attending some business out on some of our lands. Therefore, you will meet him later." You inclined your head graciously, "I understand, my lord. Thank you for allowing this union between our two families." You father grinned, "No, thank you for allowing my linage to continue through union and making sure the wealth we hold will stay within our bloodlines." Your father and the Count shook hands once more before heading off for a drink, toasting to their success. "I am sure that our fathers will be awhile, how about I show you where you will be living now that you are marrying my brother?" You smiled shyly, "That would be great, thank you, my lady." Aurora flapped her hand in an unladylike gesture, "I think that we should dispel with the titles, do you think? It will be rather tiresome, calling each other my lady all the time. Call me, Aurora."

"That sounds lovely. What does your brother enjoy in his spare time?" Aurora's eyes widened slightly, "He is standing right behind me, is he not?" She nodded. You turned gracefully. Curtsying you greeted him. "My lord."

"My lady." He took your offered hand and kissed the back. "I think I will take over the tour, dear Aurora." She smiled and kissed your cheek, "I will see you at dinner, we have so many things to discuss, sister." Tristan placed your hand in the crock of his elbow as you both fell into step as he guided you around the castle that was to be your home. "I hope I did not offend you or your sister with my question, I was only curious as to who my betrothed was."

"You have no idea who I really am do you?" Was the answer you received, you shook your head. "My various mothers, decided that I did not need to know anything other than how to run a household, the ability to talk to various guests, some politics and that I must know the duty of a wife and noblewoman which is to bear sons. Otherwise I do not know a lot of what happened outside my home. My father agreed with their assessments." Tristan nodded and seemed to be contemplating what to say next. "Is there anything that I need to know, my lord?" He shook his head, "No my dear. Just that I am close with my sister." You nodded. "I have heard that, those the various gossip that the maids and my father's wives loved to hear about." He gave a twisted smile, "Did you hear anything else through this gossip?" He tread lightly, knowing that neither you or your father had a way out of this arrangement. "That our marriage is to bring more power to both families." He grinned at you, "You do not miss anything, do you?" You shook your head, "No, my lord, I do not." Again, he gave a twisted grin, "Then we will be a good match, I think."

Your family's union with the Martel's was nearing an end, the wedding had been long. The union would not be fully complete until your first child with Tristan, you knew this. You also had been aware of the cruelty of the family that you were marrying into, because of this knowledge you had decided to play the fool. As you and Tristan sealed the union with a kiss, you had no idea what would transpire over the years, nor what Tristan would do throughout those years.
