As usual I don't own anything but the plot, pictures belong to the owners, characters belong to the owners, and you belong to you. All the credit for the song Battle Scars goes to Guy Sebastian, Lupe Fiasco, David Harris, Wasalu Jaco.

The wound heals but it never does
That's cause you're at war with love
You're at war with love, yeah

Mac sighed looking up at your bedroom window before entering your apartment complex. He knocked at your door, it sounded morose he didn't even know it was possible for his knocking on your door to sound so sad. There were footsteps and the shadow of your feet came to stand at the other side of the door. It felt like an eternity happened before you opened the sliver of wood keeping you apart.

These battle scars, don't look like they're fading
Don't look like they're ever going away
They ain't never gonna change
These battle

"I just wanted to protect you."

"By lying to me about Murdoc. Did it ever occur to you that I can protect myself? I am not some damsel in distress who needs a white knight Mac!"

"I know you're not."

"Why do you treat like I'm glass then? I am a fully capable agent Mac."

"I know that."

"I can protect myself all you had to tell me was that Murdoc was back. Why did you do this, why break up with me, treat me as if I'm a stranger to you and why, why did not trust in me?"

"Because I couldn't lose you too, not so close to what happened to Jill."

Never let a wound ruin me
But I feel like ruin's wooing me
Arrow holes that never close from cupid on a shooting spree
Feeling stupid cause I know it ain't no you and me
But when you're trying to beat the odds up
Been trying to keep your nods up and you know that you should know
And let her go but the fear of the unknown
Holding another lover's phone sends you back into the zone
With no Tom Hanks to bring you home
A lover not a fighter on the front line with a poem
Trying to write yourself a rifle
Maybe sharpen up a song
To fight the tanks and drones of you being alone

Mac watched you walked to the small kitchen, "Y/N, I couldn't let you die, I thought that breaking up with you and distancing myself from you was the best thing to keep you safe. I didn't want to hurt you, I would never do that." He followed you, you filled a glass of water and drank the contents before you turned around and faced him. Mac moved forwards he stroked his knuckles gently along your cheek, tears welled in your eyes at the gesture. They began to drip down your cheeks and the knuckles became a palm and his thumb wiped away the tears. "I love you, Y/N."

I wish I never looked, I wish I never touched
I wish that I could stop loving you so much
Cause I'm the only one that's trying to keep us together
When all of the signs say that I should forget her
I wish you weren't the best, the best I ever had
I wish that the good outweighed the bad
Cause it'll never be over, until you tell me it's over

"If you ask me to I will walk away from this, from us and I will never come back. But I don't want to Y/N, I love you. I didn't want to hurt you, I wanted to keep you safe." Mac sighed. "Mac." You sighed his name, he loved the sound of it, the way it fell from your lips. He kissed you lightly on the corner of your lips. "I can't...I couldn't lose you. I didn't think about what could happen if I lost you." Mac moved his hands into your hair, cupping your cheeks. "I love you, Y/N. I'm in love with you, and I couldn't lose you." Your eyes filled with tears, "I can't Mac, I don't think I can trust you again not with what you did. How you treated me? I love you too, I can't trust you not right now." Mac sighed, "Can I ever earn it back?" You shrugged, "I don't know Mac." You stepped back, and Mac's hands fell from your hair. Mac stepped away, he turned towards the front door, "I'm sorry, Y/N."
