STAWP | Chapter 47

Start from the beginning

"I told you I would never hurt you," I say gently.

"I know. It was just a reflex," she whispers, slowly straightening her shoulders and covering her bare throat with her hair. Even though she watches me hesitantly, not fully trusting me, it's progress. "Are you mad at me?"

"Of course not." If anything, I'm proud of her for being brave. I want to explain, but if I say anymore, the next words out of my mouth will be the truth. I can't do that to my Saffron. I can't tell her how hopeless it is. I'd rather leave things the way they are now and prove to her I could never hurt her than make her feel as hopeless about our future as I do.

"Okay." Saffron hesitates and picks up her fork again. We continue eating in silence, until we're both done our lunch.

"Let's go." I grab our plates and load them into the dishwasher and lead the way out of the kitchen.

I glance over my shoulder once when I enter the dining room, make sure Saffron's following me, and walk past the table toward the doors. I don't bother to check if the coast is clear as I head for the stairs. The foyer is empty, as is the entire second floor. Everyone's probably still at school.

We walk down the hall, and I try to figure out a way to keep all these problems from my mate. How am I supposed to teach her pack history and linking in such a short time? Maybe I should just give up. It's hopeless anyway. The only thing Saffron has going for her right now is how fast she can run, and what good is that? I need a Luna, not a track and field star.

We reach Saffron's room and I turn to face her. She stares up at me, her gaze questioning, searching. On top of everything else, she's probably still worried I'm going to hurt her.

"Do you trust me?" I demand.

Saffron nods, but her eyes are wide and fearful, reminding me of all the times she's trembled in fear: in the kitchen, in the forest, and so many other goddamn times when she shouldn't have. I should be able to protect my mate. I should be able to make her feel safe.

"Do you trust me, Saffron?" I demand again, taking a step toward her.

"Yes," she whispers. She seems hesitant at first, but then she nods more firmly and straightens her shoulders, showing her first signs of courage. "I know you'd never hurt me."

"Good." I advance on her and her eyes widen. My eyes latch onto her lips and I don't take them off as I step forward. I want to drown in her lips, get lost in her kisses. I move even closer and Saffron swallows nervously and takes a step back. My gaze drifts down to her throat, and I have a sudden urge to kiss her there. I take another step forward, and Saffron edges back, initiating a hunt my wolf craves.

As Saffron backs up against the wall, I match her step for step, stalking her like prey. Her eyes widen, but her nerves have nothing to do with fear. When her back hits the wall, I close the remaining distance between us. Then I take another step forward, so my body presses up against hers, and she's trapped between me and the wall. I can feel her every shudder, and her sudden intake of breath sends a wave of heat down to my feet.

I brace my hands on the wall, on either side of Saffron's face and press my thigh against hers, keeping her in place. Her breasts push against my chest, and my wolf howls with need at each of her panting breaths.

My gaze shifts to Saffron's bare throat and I graze it softly with my teeth. I want to bite her and mark her as mine for all eternity. I focus on the perfect spot and lick my mate's throat as my wolf continues to howl.

Then I growl against my mate's throat and think, Mine!

Did you like this chapter?

Did you think it was hot? Or not?

And I know, I know... I gave you all these options on what will happen next (should Saffron check out the library, learn to link, get attacked by a rogue, make out, or have a fun afternoon) and, you only got one of those things... and maybe it wasn't even the thing you voted for! But remember, just because those things haven't happened yet, doesn't mean they never will... or does it?

You see, when I write, sometimes I can be a little, well, evil. It's just so tempting. It's not that I like to torture my readers, or Saf and poor Logan, I just can't help it. Like, how much would it suck if Saf never, ever learned to link? Or if something really, really bad happened? I'm not saying it will, just...

Anyway... please take a moment to vote and comment (for every chapter). It means a lot to me!

Oh, and should the next one be from Logan's POV again? Or Saf's?  Things are about to get steamy!
