Maya's POV

As I was driving towards the station memories came back from my past 9 years. I have met with Andy 9 years ago at the fire academy when she gave me a heads up about a tucked in shirt at our first line up.

Since then a lot has changed for the both of us. This is the house where I've learnt the real meaning of family. Captains came and went but our moral stayed. We have lost members of our family but we have also gained a few.

I wished Andy would be at the station today to see me as I deliver the news. We might not see eye to eye on a few things but she is my closest chance to have a sister. She was there with me whenever I doubted myself professionally or as a girlfriend for Carina. She is the best Tia to Emma and she was so incredibly happy about finding out that we were expecting three more babies.

I parked the car a street away and moved to the back to change into my new uniform. I pulled down the zipper on the bag and saw the jacket first. It was navy blue with gold stripes on the slave of it. It had a new batch pinned to the left side and my name on the right side. It was my first uniform with DeLuca-Bishop on it.

The trausers were the same navy blue as the jacket and it was the same style as the previous one so I know Carina will be happy about it. The white hat was placed on the seat. I ran my fingers through every details of it as I put them on. I stepped out of the vehicle and straighten my coat as I walked towards the station.

"It suits you, Chief" Chief Smith greeted me in front of the house.

"Thank you Ma'am it's an honour to be able to wear it." I said humbly.

"Well after that hangar fire everyone was on board with me to name you as the next Battalion Chief. You have earned it." she said with a soft smile "Are you ready?" asked me one last time.

"Yas, Ma'am." I had a plan how to sneak in unnoticed. We used the back door of the barn where the PRT was parked. We walked in and after I made sure no one noticed our entrance it was time to let my team know of our presence.

"Nineteen line up!" my voice echoed through the whole house. I will miss calling that order for sure. No more screaming, no more whistle joke, no more work out jokes.

If you earn something you have dreamt about for years you would think that you're over the moon, right? Well not exactly. First you feel incredibly happy than you realise everything will change and you have no idea how to handle that at first. It's a bitter sweet moment.

A minute later I heard boots running towards the barn and my family were lined up between the Engine and the Ladder.

"Maya, if you're planning on jump scaring us I will tell your wife" Vic tried to threaten me with my hormonal Italian wife. I smiled as I nodded towards the Chief.

"Good morning, Nineteen" she stepped out from behind the PRT.

Instantly my team tried to stood up straight and look semi-presentable. The fear on my team's face were priceless. They were nowhere near ready to face their Chief. Untucked shirts, missing belts, mismatch socks and so many other issues with their uniform. They had every reason to feel scared of their Chief's presence.

"At ease! I'm not here for an inspection but based on the look of your faces it should be fun. I will need to talk to your captain about all this" she looked them up and down with a grin. I almost laughed knowing what she meant by this statement. "As you know Chief Peters resigned after serving 30 years at SFD. We have named the new Battalion Chief and I'm here to introduce them" She wanted to continue but I heard my team wishpers about my whereabouts. "As I was saying" Chief raised her voice to quite it down. "I'm happy to present you your next Battalion Chief, Chief Maya DeLuca-Bishop" she said loudly.
