Becoming Mothers (Marina fanfiction)

Chapter 21

Maya's POV

A week later

We got use to the new routine pretty well. Carina left for work every morning and came home after a 12 hours shift, she did not miss any morning kisses or good night kisses. She always made sure we had everything.

Emma's sleeping schedule was still not the best but she has managed one or two nights without nightmares, but most of the nights she still ended up between us.

Breakfasts were either cereals or my special extra green smoothies. Although they balanced each other out I really needed to start to learn cooking, not fancy food but maybe some easier meals. Emma ate my fish fingers and nuggets for lunch on most days or Carina cooked extra for dinners so we would have leftovers, we managed just fine.

After lunch we either played with the new doll house or called Carina on facetime if she wasn't too busy with work.

I loved our little family.

We were playing with the LEGOs when I heard my phone ringing in the living room.

"I'll be back, Princess" I stood up from the ground. " Can you continue to work on the castle in the mean time?"

"Sí!" she said smiling and immediately started to decorate it with more LEGO blocks.

"Hello. It's Captain DeLuca-Bishop." I  said not recognising the numbers on my screen.

"Hi, Captain DeLuca-Bishop. It's Zoe from CPS."

I felt a big knot in my throat and my arms went numb

"Hi, Zoe. Is everything alright?" I instantly became anxious.

"Yes of course. I just wanted to make an appointment for the first home inspection since Emma moved in with you. It should be pretty easy and quick, but I want you both there with Emma, if it's possible. I want to see how Emma adapted to the new environment and how the daily routine works for you." she told me everything we could expect during the visit." So it's Wednesday now, how about Monday at 9am?" she asked

" I have to call my wife first but I think it will be possible for us. I'll send you a message as soon as I reached my wife." I told her politely. She will need a day off which means Carina has to aske Bailey which means... Okay Maya get yourself together.... Breath

" Yeah that's fine with me. I'm looking forward to the message. Have a nice day" She said and hung up

I let a shaky breath out which I had no idea I was holding back. I took a big, deep breath before calling Carina.

"Hey, Beautiful" I smiled at her trying to sound as normal as possible

"Hey, Bella" she smiled and started to analyse my face. She knew me too well to fall for my act " What's wrong?" she raised one eyebrow at me

"Zoe called..." I said almost whispering "She wants a house inspection on Monday. I told her I need to ask you first since she wants both of us here on that day. She's waiting for my message to confirm the date. I know you'll need a day of so you need to talk with Bailey first so if you could..." I started to rumble again

" Bella breath. It's okay. Look at me. Just breath."  I locked eyes with her and I felt my body relax immediately.

" Thank you Carina." I said with a real smile "you always manage to calm me down."

"I'll ask Bailey and get back to you with an answer but I'm sure she won't mind it. For now I want to see my girl. Where is Emma?" she asked. She always lit up when she was talking about her.

" She is playing in her room, wait a minute. Emma, darling come here I have a surprise." I called for Emma. I heard her little footsteps as she was running across the hallway.

" Coming!" she shouted in the process "What's the surprise?" she said jumping up and down in front of me. I turned the screen to her with a big smile

"Carinaaaaa!" she rushed closer and reached for my phone.

"Ah-Ah. You know the rule. You can use my phone on the couch sitting." I said remembering the last time when she accidentally dropped my phone.

"Okay now I'm sitting, look" she said bouncing on the couch. I heard Carina's laugh coming through the screen

"Okay there you go, Princess."  I walked to the kitchen to make ourselves some snack and to give them a little privacy.

They instantly switched to Italian. Over the last week I was able to pick up some Italian from the children books. I was able to understand a few words like mi manchi (I miss you), casa (Home), ti amo ( I love you), but not enough to understand the full conversation.

"Maya, she had to go help another mama." Emma told me bringing my phone back to me. "Maya can I ask you something?" she said shyly

"Sure, Princess what is it?" I said with a smile

Emma's POV

" I was thinking... I mean" why am I worried? They said that I can ask anything. I was safe. I needed to ask. I have been slipping so much. "Uhhm it's about the mamas Carina help everyday..."

"Let's sit down and calm down a little bit. You can't ask anything wrong okay?" she said with a smile and reached for my hand. We walked back to the couch. This gave me a little time to be brave. Be brave like Maya.

"So they have a mom and a dad." I started

"Or moms or dads yes" she answered

" It's just I don't know what to call you." I said looking at the ground " I already have a mom... Or had" No Emma don't you dare to cry now.

"We don't want to replace your mom Emma, but we're happy to be here for you if you let us" she said smiling rubbing my back making me calm and safe.

"How about mamma and mommy?" Yes Emma you did it. I breathed out.

"What was that?" Maya looked at me shocked

"How about I call you mommy and I call Carina mamma, like she calls hers mamma"

"That sounds" her voice is different somehow "Yeah." She was wiping away tears. I didn't mean to make her sad.

" Did I say something wrong?" I had no idea why she was crying

"I'm just so happy" she said hugging me

"Ohh mamma told me about that. Crying because you're too happy and need more space for happiness."  I tried to remember what mamma said.

"Ohh your mamma is really smart." she said laughing " I have an idea" she said with a strange smile. "Why don't we go to the hospital and surprise her. I think she would like to hear her new name, don't you think?"

"Sí!" I ran to my room to get Captain and then I ran back to the hallway for my shoes

" Someone is excited, huh?" she was still sitting on the couch laughing at me

She put on her shoes as well and went to get her keys and her phone. She was getting better with my car seat now it has became a routine for her since we went to Tia Andy a few times since I lived here.

I couldn't wait to see my MAMMA.

Happy Station 19 week! I cannot believe we only need to wait 4 more days.

I was thinking maybe we could celebrate this with daily updates. How about that?

Emma finally called them her mothers.

Of course I had to use Charlotte's and Mason's scene from private practice. It's a beautiful scene, gets me every time.
